Gone with the war.

A big success in the Occupation days, this melodrama has not aged well ;its originality is not its forte.

Marie, a bourgeois girl , falls in love with a sailor,Jean ; soon she's pregnant by him , but he has to sail away for a long time .His letters are intercepted and the girl thinks he has abandoned her ; she 's forced to leave her family's home where her mother and her petulant auntie won't hear of an unwed mother. She winds up in Paris with her baby girl where she meets Pierre who marries her ; the war breaks out; Pierre et Jean become comrade-in -arms .When they come back ,Marie's husband invites Jean to his house where he meets his daughter .But she's not his anymore now.

This is par excellence the war melodrama with all its clichés ;the presence of a priest accentuates the sententious side of the story ....
