Mars attacks!Or do they?

This is the only movie directed by Henri Lanoé who has essentially worked as an editor.

Depicted by one of the happy few Americans who reviewed it as a "sci fi comedy" ;Marcel Pagnol meets Ed Wood with a dash of Tim Burton thrown in for good measure.

Your disbelief needs to be suspended if you are going to appreciate this zany story :two reporters, you could call Dumb and Dumber ,are the despair of their boss ,but one of them is akin to the newspaper's owner.(the headlines are a good moment of humor);they are sent to a tiny island off Britanny coasts where a woman is to give birth to quints.

There's just one problem:in the grand tradition of Pagnol ,she's going to be an unwed mom ,which dishonors both dad and big brother:"he'll have to make amends by marrying her" ;but who is he? Mainly in its first part ,the cinematography shows an almost disturbing landscape and the screenplay hints at Breton legends ,witches, sprites ,and dolmens (including a rather saucy song about them).Enter ETs -who may or may not be Martians -(one of them played by Amanda Lear!)- .These space people have cat eyes and a disintegrating pistol;and when they touch a woman 's lips with their magic kiss...

Jean Rochefort is a reliable actor,Macha Méril is charming, and the story not too derivative ;if you are not asking too much ,you can have a look .
