....Seemed Important to 7 year old Baby-Boomers......

NOW MOVIE REVIEW fans, remember that Schultz and meself are really winging it on this one. Whereas we do definitely remember this show as being on live network television Saturday mornings; this show FUNNY BONERS, unlike most other programs, has left us with no filmed/video record.

IT DEFINITELY HAD a decidedly juvenile appeal and was no doubt targeted at the kiddie trade. We know that it went out live; as it was not filmed and videotape didn't come into use until 1958, four years later.

THERE WAS A LARGE studio audience that provided the fodder for selecting contestants to participate on stage in some sort of competitive stunts. As far as the old memories can recall, it was once again the kids who were the contestants.

WE DO REMREMBER that there seemed to be no strict, by-the-rules and set in stone format that was followed. We seem to recall some sort of one time only BREAT THE CLOCK type events. And this should not be so surprising at all; for FUNNY BONERS was a Ralph Edwards Production. It was Ralph Edwards who created emceed and produced the radio and later television game show, TRUTH OF CONSEQURENCES, among many other others.*

THE ONE MOST lasting memory that has stayed with us was that of the host, Jimmy Weldon. He was, among other things, a ventriloquist. His partner was not a Charley McCarthy/Jerry Mahoney/Danny O'Day type**; but rather an anthropomorphic duck, Webster Webfoot, who had a Donald Duck-type voice.

HERE'S HOPING THAT some old kinescopes will surface so that we, who are now long in the tooth, may once again view FUNNY BONERS and show our kids and grandchildren what we watched.

THE ONLY TROUBLE is that we fear that our offspring (much like our daughter, Jennifer said about STAMP DAY FOR SUPERMAN) will comment something like: "Boy, kids were really dumb in those days!"

NOTE: * Ralph Edwards (1913-2005) was a prolific Radio & TV host and producer who gave us not only TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, but also such memorable programs as THIS IS YOUR LIFE and even today's THE PEOPLES COURT.

NOTE ** Now maybe we're being a little too sensitive about our ethnicity, but how come all of these ventriloquist dummies are Irish? We have case in point: Charley McCarthy (Edgar Bergen), Jerry Mahoney (Paul Winchell) and Danny O'Day (Jimmy Nelson). Could this be a politically incorrect conspiracy and blatant Ethnic Slur?
