Would have played well at drive-ins

My review was written in October 1989 after watching the movie on Richfield's video cassette.

"No Justice", a pleasant throwback to drive-in movies, is an action tale of corruption and vengeance in a small Tennessee town. Picture has been in local theatrical release since August.

Debuting director Richard Wayne Martin gets things off to a fast start in a lengthy opening that crosscuts among several spheres of action, ending in a fiery car crash by speedes trying to escape police pursuit.

Main plot line involves the mayor (Cameron Mitchell) pursuing an old time venetta to displace a rival clan so he can use the property for a marijuana and moonshine business. Mitchell installs his dim-witted nephew Virgel (Bob Orwig) as the new sheriff afte Sheriff Smith (Steve Murphy) leaves town abruptly with pretty Susie (Susan Ashley Pohlman).

All hell breaks loose when Virgel turns out to be a sadistic ogre, raping his girlfriend (Liza Case) and then imprisoning and torturing her brother (Mike McVerry). When state officials refuse to intervene in the local mayhem, the feud escalates and isn't resolved until Sheriff Smith returns and the feds finally arrive.

Though the cast is uneven, pic builds up a convincing good ole boy atmosphere and has enough interesting subplots to keep the viewer alert. Violence and sexual scenes are handled tastefully.
