An Australian production, "The Cup" (Directors Fortnight) is a gently humorous debut film by Bhutanese-born writer-director Khyntse Norbu about Tibetan monks getting soccer World Cup fever in 1998, the year France won. One youngster in particular, Orgyen (Jamyang Lodro) has a decidedly unmonastic obsession, with pictures of soccer stars in his room and such a hunger to watch the sport on TV that he sneaks out of the northern...
