According to Mon Ciné magazine of April 17, 1924, Pauline Polaire was originally intended to play the part of Céline but the role finally went to Céline James. Since she played an alcoholic and cocaine addict, she had to put collodion on her cheek so it would appear she had a scar. When it became apparent that the product actually was beginning to damage her skin, she had to undergo treatment.
