Sydney leaves weary Nigel to deal with the long-delayed accounting audit by foxy Maxine Schneider, as she can't wait to check out the Cleopatra exhibition at the Alexandria Museum. The jewel box on the brochure arouses inexplicable memories and knowledge of hieroglyphs in Claudia as if she were the reincarnated royal handmaiden, Iras. Her clues allow museum director Mohammed Kalifa to find a papyrus in a secret compartment, only to be stolen. His assistant Shareef is after the hidden necklace; the trail leads to a recent temple excavation.

Sydney and Nigel investigate how her childhood friend Naomi, now a diva fashion model, is disfigured and in hellish pains during a photo shoot when she puts on an historical mask, once worn by a French Revolution executioner. As this fits a legendary curse, they travel to his native city of Bourg, where the previous owner suffered the same fate until Naomi put on the mask. They consult a macabre French expert on executions, who helps them trace the mask back to an orphanage-turned-boarding school. A villain learns a nightmare lesson before the curse is lifted.

Nigel has personal reserves about Sidney's next mission, the search for Tudor king Henry VIII's missing engagement ring for Anne Boleyn, as the case is presented by his ever-rivaling elder brother Preston Bailey, as executive in the British Museum. There CEO Dr. Anthony Cureton bluntly rejects their help, actually being in dirty dealings with a dodgy relic hunter, whose henchman fails to arrest the Bailey quest, which deciphers Henry's artistic riddles one by one in London and Leeds castle, while the brothers' ex/girl Amanda Reardon two-times them viciously.
