While inspired by true events, the real names of the people portrayed are changed in the film. As such, the real life André and Magda Trocmé become Jean and Martha Fontaine on screen.
The film received a novelization the same year as its initial television broadcast, written by its two screenwriters in collaboration with Gilles Lambert. The book was also translated in Dutch under the title "Een Heuvel als Schuilplaats" (literally "A Hill as Shelter"), while the film's title was not translated in the country.
