Packaged in with this VHS cassette is a compact disc with the complete audio tracks of the two otherwise lost episodes (#s 2 and 4).
Off-air audio recordings of the two lost episodes of The Crusade survive made by fans during the original broadcasts, so, whilst the episodes cannot be watched, they can be at least heard.
The Crusade was produced for Doctor Who's second season.
The Crusade is a four-part story. There is no on-screen title for the overall story (i.e. The Crusade) as with all stories prior to Season 3's The Savages and, consequently, all four episodes have individual titles. These titles are: 1. The Lion; 2. The Knight of Jaffa; 3. The Wheel of Fortune; and 4. The Warlords.
The Crusade, along with many others, was originally destroyed by the BBC. In 1978, when the Film and TV Library in the UK was audited, The Wheel of Fortune (Episode 3) was recovered, but, unfortunately, the other three episodes were not. However, in 1999, The Lion (Episode 1) was returned to the BBC archives by a private film collector who had purchased the episode in New Zealand.
