Jennifer Lopez's life and career have taken the world on an unforgettable roller-coaster ride. We've witnessed the ups, downs, and unexpected twists in between. She may not always be a favorite among critics, but Lopez has continued to produce films through her company Nuyorican Productions, elevating herself to celeb royalty. As she juggles the many crowns she wears, one that deserves the spotlight is her role in essentially being our first Latina rom-com queen.
Sure, some of her earlier films, like 2002's "Maid in Manhattan," were criticized for perpetuating Latina stereotypes. But despite the naysayers, Lopez has never given up her spot as a rom-com star. The 2005 romantic comedy "Monster-in-Law," which she stars in alongside Jane Fonda, followed those less desirable films and became one of her highest-grossing films to date.

Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton entering into a unique arrangement, J.Lo fighting evil artificial intelligence, the roasting of an NFL legend, a retelling of the invention of the Pop Tart, Brooke Shields and Benjamin Bratt at war and John Mulaney’s six-night live comedy event from Los Angeles are some of the big titles hitting Netflix in May.
Debuting on May 3 is Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut, Unfrosted. The comedy legend works both sides of the camera for this humorous feature take on the birth of the Pop Tart. The movie is set in 1963 as breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post compete to become the first company to create a morning pastry. Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer also star, with Hugh Grant more than likely to steal the whole film with a turn as Tony the Tiger.

As summer approaches (for the Northern Hemisphere at least), Netflix is set to premiere a fresh season of one of its biggest hits.
Brigerton season 3 is set to arrive on May 16 and will debut a “new crop of debutantes” into the regency drama fray. Other original series of note this month include Indian drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (May 1), the Jeff Daniels-starring A Man in Full (May 2), and intriguing Korean title The 8 Show (May 17). Of course, Netflix is also rolling out a suite of true crime docs and docuseries as well. Chief among those options is Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal on May 15.
It’s the movie side of things where Netflix is feeling particularly lively though. May 3 sees the arrival of Jerry Seinfeld Pop Tart comedy Unfrosted. That will be followed by rom-com Mother of the Bride (May 9) and the Jennifer Lopez-starring Atlas (May 24).

A simple Google search of "the best rom-coms of all time" will take you down a nostalgic hole of '90s and early-'00s movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "While You Were Sleeping," and "P.S. I Love You." These classics, among many others, have shaped how we view love on screen. But through these films, we've learned what love looks like through white protagonists; many Bipoc communities have failed to see themselves reflected. While we saw Latine actresses like Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Milian make their mark early on in romantic comedy movies, for years the entertainment industry has undervalued and underrepresented Latine communities on screen and behind the camera.

The Oscar winner sat down with People to celebrate the publication’s 50th anniversary, during which he talked through some of his most iconic roles, including his stint as the rom-com heartthrob. He recalled meeting his co-star before production began on the film.
“I remember we met on the Paramount lot — I believe it was the time — and those casting sort of meeting couches, especially for rom-coms, you want to see the chemistry between the two leads,” he said. “You want to see how the jive is. We’re not reading through the script. We’re not reading lines.”
He continued, “Immediately, we were comfortable with each other, and we jacked with each other, and we busted each other’s chops, and we laughed a lot.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jack Reacher’s Alan Ritchson are to co-star in a Christmas movie for Amazon/MGM called The Man With The Bag.
Of all the films Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in across his long career, 1996’s Jingle All The Way was undoubtedly one of them. And, almost 30 years on from that festive comedy, it’s announced that the Austrian Oak is making another Christmas film, this time for Amazon MGM Studios.
It’s called The Man With The Bag, and according to The Hollywood Reporter’s plot summary, sees Santa Claus on the hunt from his stolen, enchanted bag. This leads Santa to “team up with Vance, a reformed thief and denizen of the naughty list” to find it, with Vance’s daughter and a “team of misfit elves” also taken along for the adventure.

Ho ho ho, movie lovers! The Oscars are officially in the rearview mirror and Daylight Savings just robbed us of an hour of sleep, but we're apparently fast-forwarding through the spring and summer fun to skip ahead to the holiday season with this latest bit of news. And, no, you're not prepared for what this is about.
Deadline has the scoop on a project that might as well be a throwback to the "No rules, anything goes" heyday of the nineties, in terms of both casting and premise. In a casting report that's sure to dwarf any others in size, weight, and muscles alone, we now know that none other than action superstar (and hilarious Academy Awards presenter) Arnold Schwarzenegger is teaming up with "Reacher" actor Alan Ritchson for a family holiday movie titled "The Man With The Bag." The project comes from director Adam Shankman with a script written by Allan Rice.

Exclusive: Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to star in holiday family comedy The Man With The Bag, alongside Reacher star Alan Ritchson, we can reveal.
Silver screen icon Schwarzenegger hasn’t starred in a movie since 2019 when he shot Kung Fury 2 and he was last seen on the big screen in the same year in Terminator: Dark Fate. We understand this one is aiming to shoot later this year.
Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is directing the film, which hails from Amazon MGM Studios, from a script penned by Allan Rice.
The logline reads: “When Santa’s magic bag is stolen, he turns to his naughty list to find Vance, a former thief, to help him get it back. Along with his daughter, Santa, and a group of misfit elves, Vance will have to pull off the greatest heist of his life to save Christmas.”

This is Me…Now: A Love Story is a film starring Jennifer Lopez and directed by Dave Meyers.
I must confess, at first I had no desire to watch this film, but as a professional, I felt obligated. However, I must also confess that we were pleasantly surprised by this original musical, written and starring Jennifer Lopez, which revolves around her own life and love affairs, as one may expect.
However, “This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is not just about the romances known from magazines and television. It is a futuristic video clip with several musical numbers, each with high quality in terms of photography and set design. Although it may seem self-centered and geared towards her fans, I must admit that “This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is of great quality and production.

Jennifer Lopez is known for her versatility in Hollywood.
She truly does it all, from acting in blockbusters to topping the charts with her music. Right now the focus is on the latter as she takes over Saturday Night Live as the musical guest on February 3.
However, Jennifer is equally used to flexing her acting chops, and she particularly excels in comedies. She’s played everything from an assassin in The Mother to a stripper in her critically acclaimed Hustlers.
That’s a true testament to her creative range, but we have to admit that her rom-coms always hold a special place in our heart. Jennifer shared the screen with Matthew McConaughey (a legend in the genre by his own rights) in her first – The Wedding Planner.
Since then, she’s taken the lead in eight other laugh-out-loud films and played an essential role in another. Her most recent rom-com...

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.

Adam Anders has been around the block a couple of times. He was the lead executive music producer on Fox’s musical/comedy/drama series “Glee.” He also served as a producer on “The Prom” for director Ryan Murphy that featured Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and James Corden for Netflix. He’s a three-time Grammy nominee who has sold over 100 million records and worked with artists ranging from the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus to Andy Grammer and CeeLo Green. His music has been heard in film productions including “High School Musical,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Captain Underpants” and “Rock of Ages.”
But lately, Anders has been focusing his attention on a different project: “Journey to Bethlehem,” a live-action Christmas musical retelling of the classic story of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus that’s currently playing in theaters in limited release this holiday season. Matthew McConaughey’s McConaissance did wonders for his career, even helping him win his first Best Actor Oscar. But it turns out that era had the exact opposite effect on his bank account.
Matthew McConaughey made the least amount of money in his favorite year doing movies Matthew McConaughey | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
The McConaissance came about after McConaughey realized how dissatisfied he was with his career choices over the years. The actor was making a ton of money doing lighthearted rom-com movies like The Wedding Planner and Fool’s Gold. Although some of these movies generated respectable box-office returns, they left the actor feeling unfulfilled. This inspired McConaughey to make a frightening decision.

Jennifer Lopez is reflecting on what she wishes she had known before her rise to fame in Hollywood.
During a recent interview for Elle magazine‘s 2023 Women in Hollywood December/January issue, the multihyphenate admitted that she “really came in blind” and looking back would be more selective in what she takes on.
“I didn’t have that luxury, being Latina. I didn’t get called in for everything someone who wasn’t Latina would get called in for. I got called in for very specific things,” Lopez explained. “As I started getting more leads here and there, I should have pulled back. I took that mindset with me instead of going, ‘I should only work with certain kinds of directors that I really want to work with. I should choose this material in a different way.’”
The Hustlers star continued, “I just wasn’t as particular as I could be,...

Mario Van Peebles has set his latest film “The Price for Freedom,” which tells the story of civil rights pioneers and NAACP organizers Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore, who were instrumental in advancing the cause for Black voters in Florida.
The Moores’ story is described as “equal parts civil rights history and a personal tale of love, commitment and family,” as it chronicles the activists’ fight for voting rights and the equalization of pay for Black teachers in Florida, as well as their battle against racial violence and lynching.
After opening 64 chapters of the NAACP in the state and registering hundreds of thousands of Black voters, the Moores were murdered on Dec. 25, 1951, when a bomb exploded directly under their bedroom at their home on the outskirts of Mims, Fla.
“It was their attempted defense alongside the young Thurgood Marshall (destined to become the first Black Supreme Court justice) of the ‘Groveland Four,...

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.
Also dropping on Hulu this month is the original film Quiz Lady, starring Sandra Oh, Awkwafina, Jason Schwartzman,...

Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, who brought Sonya Blade to life in 1995’s Mortal Kombat and proved the object of Billy Madison’s juvenile affection, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
In a statement, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras’ husband, tennis legend Pete Sampras, wrote, “This past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family…Last December, my wife, Bridgette, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Since then, she has had major surgery, pushed through chemotherapy and continues with targeted maintenance therapy…It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this. However, seeing our boys step up and be such strong supports of Bridgette, myself and each other has been amazing. Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all has been inspiring.”
That Bridgette Wilson-Sampras was diagnosed nearly one year ago shows just how difficult it must be for her and her family to discuss the topic openly.

Matthew McConaughey is revealing that he is, in fact, the mastermind behind the masterful “McConaissance” branding.
The Oscar winner detailed how he transitioned from playing the leading man in rom-coms like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “The Wedding Planner,” and “Failure to Launch” and taking on more serious roles in the 2010s, such as “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “True Detective,” and “Dallas Buyers Club.”
“Hollywood was not offering me [those roles] before,” McConaughey admitted during Chelsea Handler’s iHeart “Dear Chelsea” podcast.
Comedian Handler quipped that McConaughey then became part of the “McConaissance,” to which McConaughey said, “Oh jeez, it was some self-marketing.” The “Mud” actor admitted that while promoting the 2012 film, a journalist on the red carpet said he was “on a roll” and his career needed a catchphrase.

One of the happiest — but most stressful — days of every couple's lives has been great fodder for filmmakers for decades. Whether they're watching Audrey Hepburn's charm and beauty threaten William Holden's nuptials, Andi MacDowell and Hugh Grant attend multiple weddings (and one funeral), or Andy Samberg relive the same ceremony over and over again, viewers young and old alike love to laugh and cry at wedding movies.
These movies' success comes down to flexibility; there are countless narrative possibilities associated with a momentous occasion like a wedding. While we watch a couple commit to until-death-do-us-part, the screen can radiate immense love and joy, or immediate dread and regret. Laughter can fill a banquet hall just as easily as the sound of a jilted lover's tears. So, dust off that tuxedo and puff up that bridesmaid dress,...

Many rom-com fans can likely agree that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days wouldn’t be the same without Kate Hudson’s “Benny boo-boo” lines or her cover of “You’re So Vain.” She and Matthew McConaughey had an electric chemistry that made the movie one of the most iconic romantic comedies to this day. How to Lose a Guy even led Hudson and McConaughey to co-star in another film, Fool’s Gold, a few years later.
And yet, the earliest plans for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days didn’t include Hudson as the leading lady. Here’s who was the first choice to play Andie Anderson and how the part ended up going to Hudson. Plus, how Hudson helped seal the deal on McConaughey.

Over the course of its original 10-season run, "Murphy Brown" was consistently considered one of the best sitcoms on television and made a star out of its leading lady Candice Bergen. One of its key ingredients for success was the character of Jim Dial, the lead news anchor for "Fyi," played by Charles Kimbrough. With his overly articulated speech and rich baritone, he made what should be the face of trustworthiness and intelligence into a delightful straight-laced buffoon, earning the actor an Emmy nomination in 1990.
Sadly, Charles Kimbrough has passed away at the age of 86. Appearing on stage and screens big and small, the Tony-nominated actor had a robust career going all the way back to the late 1960s that ranged from Shakespeare on Broadway to voicing Victor the gargoyle in Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" to a supporting role in the romantic comedy "The Wedding Planner." Matthew McConaughey was a king of the romantic-comedy genre in the early 2000s, and it turns out it’s all thanks to a fortune teller. Did McConaughey really want to dive right into another rom-com?
“I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Blvd.,” McConaughey told Vanity Fair as part of a new “How to Lose a Guy” oral history. “Suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?'” McConaughey said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, man.
