Quotes

  • Narrator : Despite his fear, Alexander summons his bravest voice to command the living gate.

Prince Alexander : I would pass, Gate. I have business with your master.

Gate : My master and thine, human! I would be pleased to introduce thee! Only step forward and thou shalt meet him shortly.

Prince Alexander : No thank you! I come to meet the Lord of the Dead with my flesh still intact!

Gate : And why should I let you past, human, when I would much rather eat you?

Prince Alexander : I have been told that there is a way for humans to enter Death's realm. There must be something I can do, some task that will allow me to pass your doors, Gate.

Gate : Hmmm. I seem to recall something... A trick, perhaps... a test. Hmmmm. Ah, yessss... Should a human try to pass, a riddle is Gate's won't to ask.

Prince Alexander : Ahem. A riddle it is then.

Gate : And if thou wouldst fail to answer Gate, his thirsty jaws will be thy fate?

    Prince Alexander : Agreed.

Gate : Listen as though it meant thy life then, human, for it surely does. My first is foremost legally. My second circles outwardly. My third leads all in victory. My fourth twice ends a nominee. My whole is this gate's only key.

Narrator : My first is foremost legally. My second circles outwardly. My third leads all in victory. My fourth twice ends a nominee. My whole is this gate's only key.

  • Narrator : In desperation, Alexander fixes upon the only weapon in sight.

[Alexander grabs the heavy sword and struggles to lift and swing it]

Prince Alexander : Zounds! This sword must weigh a ton!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Heh heh heh heh heh. Good. Then you shall only fail sooner, my prince!

  • Prince Alexander : Good morning, tomato vines!

    Tomato Vines : Good morning!

  • [Alexander must tell the Lord of the Dead a story which will make him weep]

Prince Alexander : Perhaps, a tale of my love?

Lord of the Dead : There is nothing you can say of love that will make me cry, mortal. I have had Cleopatra and Helen of Troy stand before me, and they moved me not. Your common desires mean nothing to me.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the mirror icon on Lord of the Dead]  If your existence has been all that you say it has, then truth alone shall be my sword.

Narrator : [Alexander holds the magic mirror for Lord of the Dead to look at]  The mirror's surface swirls with darkness for a moment, then fills with images even blacker. Reflections of despair, of wailing souls, of shackles colder and more immutable than any forged by man, of a world of thirsts that can never be quenched. Alexander feels the mirror tremble in his grasp and is glad that he cannot see its face, but the Lord of the Dead is transfixed to the mirror, to the screening of his life.

Narrator : Things long forgotten are once more uncovered: his enslavement to this throne while still a man, the years of watching misery and horror and growing ever more numb to it, the seep of his own humanity, the slow growth of a new thing altogether which became that which he is now. His is an existence that has no possibility of redemption, no end. The surrounding spirits draw away in pain. The truth is so sharp, it stabs, so intense, it sears.

Man Spirit , Woman Spirit : Gasp! Aeiii! Take it away! Make it stop!

[Then the magic mirror shatters and Lord of the Dead sheds a teardrop from his face]

Narrator : The mirror of truth cracks from the strain... And Death sheds a single, gray tear.

Lord of the Dead : Truth is, indeed, a terrible thing. I have worn this mantle for so long, I had forgotten its dreadful weight. You shall take the souls and leave, as I agreed. You have been granted a stay from this inevitable reality. I almost... envy you. Find the souls he has claimed and bring them to me.

[Then the camera pans out to the throne room and the spirits of King Caliphim and Queen Allaria floats down]

Lord of the Dead : King Caliphim and Queen Allaria, I presume. Your hero has won you a few more years of mortality. May your souls be more prepared for their rest when you return.

[Then King Caliphim and Queen Allaria are brought back to life]

Queen Allaria : Thank you my lord. I hope that they will.

Lord of the Dead : And you, man of flesh. My steed shall take the three of you back to the land of the living. Tell her where it is you wish to go.

[Then Nightmare the winged horse lands in the throne room]

Lord of the Dead : Until we meet again, then. I assure you, we WILL meet again.

Prince Alexander : No offense, my lord, but I hope that it will be many long years from now.

Lord of the Dead : It is never as long as you might wish, mortal. Now begone.

Prince Alexander : Yes my lord.

[Then Alexander, King Caliphim and Queen Allaria all get on the winged horse Nightmare and the horse takes off and flies to the Land of the Green Isles]

  • Prince Alexander : [Alexander shows the genie that he has his lamp in possession]  Shamir Shamazel! Hold your spells! I am your master now. I order you to go back into your lamp.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : How did you get my lamp! You thief! You... you... you... You've ruined me!

Shamir Shamazel : My lamp! Oh, thank Balhalla! I hated working for that loathsome creature! I already feel his nastiness leaving me! How I've longed for a master like you!

Shamir Shamazel : [Shamir teleports over to the blue bottle and gets sucked in the bottle and rejoices]  I've got a new master! I've got a new master!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : [Abdul Alhazred walks over to Alexander and draws his sword and knocks the blue bottle out of Alexanders hand]  So you are a thief as well, Alexander? Stealing the lamp was very clever, I'll grant you that, but I am the master thief! Face my sword, if you dare! The man left standing shall have the lamp!

Prince Alexander : So shall it be, Alhazred! I don't need the genie to deal with a coward like you!

  • Narrator : [Alexander shows the phrase to the dangling participle]  Alexander holds the sentence out to the creature.

Prince Alexander : This sentence seems in need of an ending, perhaps you could finish it.

Dangling Participle : Where are you going? Where are you going? Know it I do! Where are you going to? Like you I do! Go I with you?

[Then Dangling Participle crawls up inside Alexanders shirt]

Narrator : Well, that was certainly interesting. It looks like Alexander now has a passenger.

  • Winged One : Hail to thee, great Oracle! Lord Azure sends you this wingless male. It appears that he solved the Cliffs of Logic, and...

Oracle : Defeated the Minotaur in his lair. So I have seen. So this is the one that haunts my pool of late. Welcome, young seeker. What knowledge do you desire?

Prince Alexander : Princess Cassima. Whatever you can tell me, great Oracle.

Oracle : Ah, of course, the princess. That explains my images. Let us see what we can see.

[the Oracle swirls a finger in her pool and an image of Cassima appears]

Oracle : I see a maiden, lovely and pure, but surrounded by evil. She is a rose set amidst bitter thorns. It is her fate to be the pawn of dark powers, and yours to try to redeem her.

Prince Alexander : How? How do I redeem her?

Oracle : Fate is not like the cut of a blade, young one, but rather like the myriad of paths formed when a hammer cracks ice. I will tell you what I can, but what will actually come to pass is up to you. I see that any attempt to reach the girl will force you into battle, a struggle against a dark force. If you lose, your life will be forfeit.

Prince Alexander : Who must I fight?

Oracle : A great darkness surrounds your adversary, preventing me from seeing clearly. I can only make out the shape of a black cloak. But before this final struggle, I see an infiltration - a dangerous game of hide-and-seek in corridors filled with enemies. The risks are high, but it's the only way to reach the one you seek. There is more than one way into this place. Your choice will dictate much.

Prince Alexander : What else do you see, mighty Oracle?

[she swirls her finger in the water again, but this time, a skull flies out]

Oracle : Oh! Oh, such pain. I see two restless spirits crying out for revenge. These shades could help you destroy the dark force if they were to be brought back from their spiritual form. Yet this is only one possible path to your destiny. I'm afraid this is getting beyond me. I know very little about the afterlife. I can only advise getting counsel from the Druids. Be warned, the Druids are reclusive and dangerous. They might aid you or they might destroy you. Like their island, the Druids' nature is hidden in the mists. There is nothing more I can do for you except to give you this.

[she fills a vial with sacred water and gives it to him]

Oracle : It is water from the sacred pool. That and my blessing go with you.

Prince Alexander : Thank you, great Oracle.

  • [Saladin is about to kill Alexander]

Prince Alexander : Wait! If you love your princess, you'll hear me out. The vizier is *not* what he appears to be. Cassima is in terrible danger! I have proof that this is so. For your princess's sake, you must believe me!

    [hands him the letter]

Captain Saladin : Let me see that!

Narrator : Saladin reads the letter, his sword point still against Alexander's throat. Alexander watches the guard dog's noble face darken with rage.

Captain Saladin : [hands back the letter]  Grr, this is treason. I'll have his throat! But how do I know this letter is not a forgery? You could have written this yourself!

Prince Alexander : But I did not! Have you no doubts of your own about Alhazred? Don't you see? All he wants is the crown! Cassima is being coerced! We must stop the wedding!

Captain Saladin : It is true. I have had my suspicions about the vizier, especially when King Caliphim and Queen Allaria died.

    [sheathes his sword]

Captain Saladin : But I have seen Cassima with him several times. She appears to be quite happy, even enthusiastic. I don't believe she could love him if he truly were so wicked.

Prince Alexander : I cannot believe for a moment that she loves that snake!

Captain Saladin : A jilted lover *would* not believe it, but come. See for yourself.

[leads Alexander into the throne room]

Narrator : The captain of the guard leads Alexander into the throne room, where a ceremony seems to be in progress. Alexander feels his blood run cold at the sight.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I, Cassima, declare Abdul Alhazred as my lawful and beloved husband, and *king* of this realm...

Prince Alexander : But, Cassima, what are you saying?

Captain Saladin : Do you still claim that the princess is being forced? Perhaps it's *you* that's the danger, as the vizier has said.

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me, I took a mint

Pawnshop Owner : Go right ahead prince Alex, that is what they're there for.

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me good knights, but the red queen lost her scarf

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : The Red Queen's always losing her scarves. She finds it fashionable.

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the red scarf on the Minotaur]  Alexander, his back inches from the fiery pit, tempts the Minotaur with the Red Queen's scarf.

Prince Alexander : Look here, you bully! Nice, bright red!

Minotaur : [growling, he roars, and preparing to charge]  Red! Now you die!

Narrator : [the Minotaur rushes Alexander and falls into the fire pit]  The Minotaur drops from sight amidst the consuming flames. Slowly his scream fades as well.

Prince Alexander : Have you been harmed, Lady Celeste? Are you all right?

Lady Celeste : No I am not all right! I assume you do not intend to leave me tied up on this vile monstrosity!

Prince Alexander : Err, of course not. Sorry. Let's see. If you'll give me a moment, I'll have these untied in no time.

Lady Celeste : I can't wait that long. Look, I wear a small dagger just inside my belt. It should be enough to cut the rope.

Prince Alexander : Oh. All right, I... I've got it, Lady Celeste. Here we go.

[Alexander cuts the ropes until Lady Celeste stands up from the altar]

Lady Celeste : Thank you. You may keep the dagger as a gift for saving my life.

Prince Alexander : That's very generous...

Lady Celeste : Forget it! Do you mind if we just get out of here now?

[Alexander and Lady Celeste both exit the Minotaurs lair though the door]

  • Narrator : Alexander is frozen at the spectacle before him, robed figures are gathered around a bonfire. Some mystical ceremony is taking place, but as to its purpose, Alexander has no clue.

Druid : We found a trespasser on the beach, Arch Druid!

Narrator : Uh-oh. Arch Druid? Now what has Alexander wandered into?

Arch Druid : This must be the foreigner we were warned about. How appropriate that he should come during our Rain Festival. Place him in the sacrificial cage!

Prince Alexander : Wait! I must rescue the princess!

Arch Druid : There's an ancient Druid saying: A man who would save others must first save himself.

Narrator : Alexander is pushed into the confining wicker cage. And the cage is swung out over the bonfire!

[Then a camera closeup shot shows Alexander getting very hot over the bonfire]

Narrator : Alexander starts to feel a little warm. The bottom of the cage is getting uncomfortably hot. This cage is really hot! Fire in the cage!

[Alexander pulls out Beautys dress and puts out the fire on the cage before the dress burns up]

Narrator : Alexander pulls out Beauty's old slave clothes, desperate to beat out the flames! The flame is extinguished, but the clothes themselves burn to cinders. Alexander won't be able to keep the cage from igniting for long! The heat and movement must have jarred something... Something that Alexander's carrying is starting to jiggle around! Egad! Something's really percolating! The water in Alexander's lamp is hot! It's just about... BOILING!

[Then Alexander is shocked to see his lamp boiling that smoke bellows in his face]

Narrator : Alexander feels a drop. It starts to rain!

    [Then it rains hard]

Arch Druid : That man is a powerful nature wizard! By the sacred oak, let him down!

  • Bookworm : [Alexander grabs one of the books on the ground and the Giant Bookworm appears floating in midair]  What do you think You're doing?

Prince Alexander : I'm sorry. I didn't realize these books had an owner. I'm in need of a rare book.

Bookworm : Hmph! No owner! All books have owners, my good man. And This book owner, Bookworm to you wouldn't part with one of his books for anything!

Prince Alexander : Isn't there something I can do for you to pay for the book?

Bookworm : Hmm. Let's see. Do you have an itinerant clause?

Prince Alexander : No. No clauses at all, I'm afraid.

Oxymoron : [Then Oxymoron pops out of his book]  As an exception, you always should! Ha ha ha ha!

Diphthong : [Oxymoron goes back into his book and Diphthong pops out of his book]  Aaooouu!

Bookworm : [Diphthong goes back into his book]  Don't mind Oxymoron and Diphthong. They're fairly limited grammatical principles, you know. Hmm, let's see. A marsh pig that does taxes?

Prince Alexander : Uh, no. I'm afraid not.

    Bookworm : A dangling participle?

[a helpful clue for the item you're required to get in the game]

Prince Alexander : I'm fresh out.

    Bookworm : A purple fiddlewacker?

Prince Alexander : No... I don't think so. Sorry.

    Bookworm : An idiosyncrasy, perhaps?

    Prince Alexander : Fraid not.

Bookworm : Hah! Then what good are you?

[the giant Bookworm goes back into his book]

  • Lord Azure : With what trickery did you master the Cliffs of Logic and reach the City of the Winged Ones?

Prince Alexander : Only the magic of clear thought, my Lord. I meant no harm.

Lady Aeriel : The Cliffs of Logic? It is the sacred Oracle's prophecy, Azure!

Lord Azure : Yes, Aeriel. Hmm. It is lucky for you, human, that climbing the Cliffs of Logic is part of a prophecy that I cannot ignore. We have just been ordered by Vizier Alhazred himself to dispose of any strangers that might land on our fair isle. But the prophecy would have a different fate befall you.

Lady Aeriel : The prophecy predicts that whosoever climbs the Cliffs of Logic will defeat the Minotaur. The Minotaur has violated our sacred catacombs and eats our young in sacrifice. Our own daughter, Lady Celeste, was taken there only this morning as his most recently demanded offering.

Lord Azure : A dilemma, then. Whom shall I obey in regards to your fate, the Oracle or the Crown? But since Alhazred did not dictate how I was to dispose of intruders, and since you cannot possibly survive the catacombs, your imprisonment there should serve both purposes quite admirably.

Prince Alexander : I will not resist you in this, my Lord. I shall do my best to save your daughter.

Lord Azure : Hmm. First I must tell you that the catacombs are a labyrinth of rooms, a place of exceeding danger. You will need many tools and clear wits to survive it.

Prince Alexander : I am ready.

Lord Azure : Very well. My guards will take you there now. You seem courageous enough, but the catacombs will determine how brave you really are.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the gauntlet icon on Lord of the Dead. Alexander will drop the gauntlet]  I did not come here to die, but to demand my right of challenge! I respectfully challenge thee, Death, by throwing down this gauntlet! Man may pass the portal, and seeks its master Death. Man may pass where Death has trod, and challenge, like Scheherazade, He who reigns beneath the sod, to spare a mortal's breath.

Woman Spirit : He has the gauntlet!

Man Spirit : Impossible! He challenges Death!

Lord of the Dead : Who are you to challenge Death?

Prince Alexander : A man of flesh is all I need to be, my lord.

Lord of the Dead : And what is it that you seek with this challenge? The soul of some dead maiden?

Prince Alexander : I seek the souls of King Caliphim and Queen Allaria of the Land of the Green Isles.

Lord of the Dead : You would save two human souls and emerge alive from this realm yourself? That shall be a difficult challenge indeed. The tomb does not open its doors lightly.

Prince Alexander : Either all three of us leave, or none go.

Lord of the Dead : Very well. Then let me think of an appropriate task. Ahhh. Yes. I have it now. Your challenge is this: for thousands of years I have sat upon this throne. I have heard every sad tale that can be told by human lips. I have seen tragedies that ended empires, injustices that defy reason, love that would light the very stars turned cold and hard. I have seen torments that cannot possibly be borne and yet must be - for centuries. This thing I have never done: I have never shed a tear. Make me cry, thou "man of flesh". That is my challenge.

Woman Spirit : Make Death cry?

Man Spirit : Sooner could he turn sea to stone! Or fire to ice!

  • Prince Alexander : [after clicking rotten tomato icon on bump on a log]  I thought this might come in handy the next time your brother starts picking on you.

Bump-on-a-log : Ah ha! Finally! Old bump on a log's not so defenseless, Is he!

Rotten Tomato : Hey! Hey! What are you doing there? Watch the pulp will you!

Stick-in-the-mud : Now Bumpy! Remember all I've given you!

Bump-on-a-log : The only thing you've ever given me is mud! Take this!

Rotten Tomato : No! Not into the swamp!

[Bump on a log throws rotten tomato at Stick in the mud and they both chuck swamp ooze at bump on a log]

Bump-on-a-log : Hey! Okay! I give up! Geez, sorry!

Stick-in-the-mud : Well, I guess it's not very pleasant having things thrown at you. I'm sorry.

Bump-on-a-log : You mean it? Really? Brother?

    Stick-in-the-mud : Brother!

Narrator : Stick in the mud and Bump on a log, exhausted from the battle immediately doze off into naps, Rotten Tomato being equally lazy, decides to join them.

[3 of them all yawn and then fall asleep]

  • Jollo : Determined to learn more about the strange mans relationship with the princess, Alexander shows the man his insignia ring and formally introduces himself.

Prince Alexander : I'm sorry to insist, but my name is Alexander of Daventry and...

Jollo : I appreciate the offer of the ring Alexander, but I'm afraid I'm already spoken. Daventry? Where have I heard of Daventry? Flying flipmice! You must be Prince Alexander! Cassima told me about you when she arrived home. How came you here?

Prince Alexander : Why, by a ship, now wrecked upon the sand. But, you know Cassima? She truly spoke of me?

Jollo : Yes, yes, I, I saw her briefly when she first returned home. She mentioned the prince to me, the Prince Alexander of Daventry. I'm afraid that was before she was told about her parents deaths. You see, she arrived home a few weeks too late, the king and queen thought they'd never see her again, it is said they died of heartbreak, I'm afraid she's blamed herself.

Prince Alexander : What a terrible homecoming! If we had only known.

Jollo : Sniff... Terrible indeed poor thing, everyone in the kingdom seems to despair with her these days, the streets are silent.

Prince Alexander : Where is she now?

Jollo : The princess is sequestered in mourning, it's a rather dated tradition and not required. But, the Vizier said she insisted out of respect.

Prince Alexander : I see, you've yet to say who you are and how you know the princess.

Jollo : I? Oh pardon me! My name is Jollo. I am clown to the royal court, and have been since the marriage of Cassimas parents King Caliphim and Queen Allaria, ho ho, those were the happy days. The pair of them were so full of joy and life, so in love. And Cassimas birth, it would be hard to explain how long they had waited, how they had hoped for a child, I mean, she was such a charming little thing, smart as a whip, kind and sweet, oh she means everything to this kingdom Alexander, and to me, I'm so terribly worried about her.

Prince Alexander : About her grief over her parents you mean.

Jollo : Well the truth is, I do not trust the Vizier or his plans for Cassima, I'm still living at the Castle of the Crown as court clown, His clown. But it is more to keep my ear to the ground than out of loyalty. I wish I knew what the princess thinks these days sigh. If only I could find Sing-Sing, Cassimas pet Nightingale, I might be able to send the princess a message, as it is, I must wait for the end of her seclusion. Now I'm afraid I must hurry back to the castle, I'll try to return to the bookshop again later,

Prince Alexander : Thank you for speaking with me Jollo, I hope we meet again soon.

[Jollo gets up from the cushion chair and walks out of the bookshop]

  • Prince Alexander : How did you manage to fall off the vine, Mr. Tomato?

Rotten Tomato : Whaddya think? I'm old, I'm rotten! Nyah! Leave me alone!

Prince Alexander : If you say so.

Rotten Tomato : After all, you're just gonna let me sit here and rot on this dry ground like everybody else, aren'tcha?

    Prince Alexander : Why, I don't know. I suppose...

Rotten Tomato : Ah, nevermind! Just go away! Nyah!

  • Prince Alexander : Stop the wedding!

  • Narrator : Long ago, in the castle of a kingdom called Daventry...

Queen Valanice : Alexander here you are. Oh you're still not thinking about Cassima are you?

Prince Alexander : Hmm. I suppose I am.

Queen Valanice : Son it's been months, You've got to pull yourself together. After all you've only met her that once.

    Prince Alexander : I know.

Queen Valanice : Have you discovered anything about the land of the Green Isles.

Prince Alexander : No. No ones even heard of it. Its like she just vanished.

Queen Valanice : I wish I could help. Please try to think about something else dear.

Prince Alexander : I'll try mother.

  • Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : [Then the Magic Mirror lights up and Alexander walks up to the Magic Mirror and it shows an image of Princess Cassima]  Alexander, Alexander, Alexander, I feel so alone I don't know what to do. Alexander, I wish you were here. Alexander, Alexander, Alexander.

Prince Alexander : [Then the image fades from the Magic Mirror]  Cassima wait! Mother! Mother come quick!

Queen Valanice : Alexander what on Earth? gasp! You're white as a ghost.

Prince Alexander : Mother, I saw Cassima, she was in the mirror.

Queen Valanice : In the mirror? The Magic Mirror!

Prince Alexander : Yes! And it showed me how to find her.

    Queen Valanice : How?

Prince Alexander : The stars. I saw the stars outside her window. I could navigate by the stars.

Queen Valanice : Oh Alexander, if you really go...

Prince Alexander : It will be alright mother, I promise.

  • Captain Saladin : Lord Alhazred. A visitor to see you. Prince Alexander of Daventry.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : What is it that you seek Prince Alexander?

Prince Alexander : Pardon the intrusion my lord. But I came to see Princess Cassima. Some months ago my father, King Graham, saved my family and I from imprisonment under an evil wizard named Mordack.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : The same wizard that kidnapped the princess?

Prince Alexander : Exactly. When my father rescued us, he also liberated Cassima and sent her home.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Then your father has my gratitude. And that of the entire kingdom. But I'm afraid I still fail to see the purpose of you visit.

Prince Alexander : [Clears his throat]  Well, I came to make sure that Cassima arrived safely and to pay my respects before we parted, she gave me an invitation to visit.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : I have no doubt she did that exactly that at the time Prince Alexander. However, things have greatly changed for Cassima since her ordeal in Mordacks castle. Cassima's parents both became ill and died while she was gone. Cassima is sequestered in mourning for them as befits the princess. She is not receiving visitors of any kind. Even if she were, I do not think your visit would be appropriate. You see, it is time for Cassima to take her responsibility seriously. With her parents gone, she no longer has the luxury to be a carefree maiden. As was her parents wish, Cassima and I are to be wed, we shall rule the kingdom together. I assure you, our marriage is all Cassima wants now. As a prince and a gentleman, It would be best that you leave before there is any further embarrassment.

Prince Alexander : I see. I suppose that I was mistaken. I thought for certain that Cassima... Well I apologize.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : A young man sees what he wishes to see. I'm sorry you wasted your time traveling to the land of the Green Isles. May your journey home be swift.

Prince Alexander : Perhaps I will take the opportunity to look around your fair land while I'm here.

Captain Saladin : I would advise against that! The kingdom is rather... say we say inhospitable these days. But it is your neck you may risk it if you please. Captain Saladin will escort you from the castle. Good day.

[Captain Saladin puts his sword away]

  • Druid : [Prince Alexander suddenly appears on the beach and 2 Druids stand there]  Great Gods! Did you see that? A man just appeared from nowhere.

Druid : Perhaps he was sent by the spirits, I see no boat.

Druid : He is an intruder, No matter how he got here, Grab him!

[Then the 2 druids walks over and grabs Alexanders arms]

Prince Alexander : Not again. Look I'll leave, It's no problem.

    Druid : I think not. Let's go.

  • Narrator : Thinking of Cassima, Alexander decides to leaf through one of the volumes of love poetry. He reads Thy hair, thy lips, thy beauteous face, And all thy studied female grace, Have won for thee anon a place, Within this broken breast. Not bad, and another. Upon the shore the lilies bend, Untouched by worldly care. Where shadow they her earthly bed, Oh, that she were not there! Yikes! And another. What was it when I looked at you? What power has chained me through and through? And binds my heart with links so tight, I can not live without the sight of you? What nameless thing has captured me? And made me powerless to flee? What thing is it without a name, That brings my mind e'er back the same to thee? The name of 'love' cannot apply, Its commonness does not decry, The haunted, hunted, painful cry that my heart makes for you, That e'er my soul eternal makes for you.

Prince Alexander : Hmm... A little close to home that one.

Narrator : Alexander returns the love poem book to the shelf.

[One of the pages falls out of the book]

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me. My name is Alexander. The owner of the book shop in the village told me you might be able to help me. I hear you used to run this ferry for the islands. I'd like to talk to you, if you have a moment.

Ferryman : Ya say old Ali sent ya? I can't see why. The ferry's not running, ya know.

Prince Alexander : I understand. I'd just like to talk to you about the islands if you don't mind.

Ferryman : Well, I guess it'd be all right if Ali sent ya. Well don't just stand there. Come on inside.

[Alexander walks inside with the Ferryman and they both sit down in their chairs]

Ferryman : What is it you wanted talk about young man?

  • Prince Alexander : I see you have a rabbit's foot. Has it brought you much luck?

Ferryman : As ya can see, my luck's been out for some time now, despite that old charm. Why don't ya take it with ya? Perhaps giving the darn thing away will bring me good fortune at last!

Prince Alexander : Perhaps it will at that. Thank you.

[Alexander takes the rabbits foot and puts it away]

  • Stick-in-the-mud : [If Alexander attempts to collect swamp sludge with his cup]  Whaddaya think you're doing!

Prince Alexander : You startled me! I was just getting some swamp ooze.

Stick-in-the-mud : Well you certainly won't get it there! That's not swamp ooze! That's swamp sludge!

Bump-on-a-log : He's right you know, But he could be a little nicer telling you. He's not a very pleasant stick in the mud.

Stick-in-the-mud : Nobody ask you! Be quiet!

Bump-on-a-log : Sigh. Oh the trials of being a mere bump on a log.

[Stick in the mud then makes faces and sticks his tongue out]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player tries to click the walk button while Alexander is maintaining balance on the stepping stones]  Whoa! Wait a minute!

  • Narrator : Alexander picks up the book from the small table.

Ali : Oh yes. Please take that book. You have my most humble thanks for doing so good sir.

    Prince Alexander : Really? Thanks.

  • Bay : [Alexander hides behind a pillar and the two guard dogs Bay and Wolf show up in the halls and they both stop]  If you didn't have the brain of a cat Wolf, you'd have known that mechanical nightingale wasn't Cassima's nightingale.

Wolf : I was all first day on patrol. But you wanted to show the thing to Saladin.

Bay : Well, at least the captain wasn't too mad. He's a good honest dog, Saladin is.

Wolf : I err... Wish the same could be said for our...

Bay : Hush! Do you want to be dazzled you fool!

Narrator : Somewhere nearby, a door opens.

Bay : Ahem. Greetings Shamir sir.

Narrator : A petulant voice snaps a response at the guards.

Shamir Shamazel : The wedding is about to begin! Make sure everything is secure!

    Bay : Yes sir!

Narrator : Footsteps retreat down the hall towards the back hallway. Alexander hears the distant sounds of chains rattling. A door opens, there's a small commotion and a woman's sharp cry.

    Prince Alexander : Cassima!

Narrator : Gradually the sounds fade away off to the east. All is silent.

Bay : If it weren't for him being the Wiziers page and all, I'd have something to say about that. Grr... Wonder where he's taking her? The wedding's the other way.

Wolf : You never know with that one. He's always showing up when he shouldn't be and where he oughtn't. Let's go check it out.

[the guard dogs walk off down the hallways]

Narrator : The guard dogs seem to be stopped at the back hallway.

[Then Alexander comes out of his hiding place]

  • Chess Knights, Additional Voices : [If Prince Alexander tries to enter Chessboard land, the two red and white knight horses will block his way]  Checkmate, only chess pieces allowed in Chessboard land.

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : That's right. Humans aren't allowed in and never will be, Stay out!

[Prince Alexander backs off and the red and white Chess Queens hops over to the gate and they look at each other]

Red Chess Queen : I must insist your highness, I shall send the lump of coal to the vizier and the princess as a present for their wedding and that's the end of it.

White Chess Queen : And I suppose you'll leave me with only this stupid spoiled egg to send your highness, I want to impress the new king and queen of the realm as much as you do. As queen of this island, I have every right to that lump of coal

Red Chess Queen : Who isn't queen of this isle, the lump of coal is in my possession, therefore, I shall do as I please with it, besides, there's nothing wrong with that spoiled egg.

White Chess Queen : The egg, they're delightfully spoiled, it's not nearly so valuable as the lump of coal and you know it. Your highness always got to carry the singing stone. It's not fair that you get the coal too.

Red Chess Queen : That doesn't count, the singing stone was stolen by that horrid beast, I shall get to keep the coal because my stone was stolen.

White Chess Queen : It wasn't your stone! It belonged to the Isle of Wonder treasury, your highness always thinks that everything is hers!

[both queens turns and looks at Alexander]

Red Chess Queen : Excuse me my good man, but could you settle an argument for us?

White Chess Queen : Which of us should get to carry the coal and which the egg, remember, white is the color of deserving truth and virtue.

Red Chess Queen : Quiet your highness! And let him make up his own mind. I for one shall be more proper, and not even mention the fact that red is the color of love.

Prince Alexander : I'm sorry your majesties, I'm partial to both red and white, but I'm afraid that I don't know how to solve your problem, one of your will just have to be gracious and allow the other the lump of coal.

White Chess Queen : What a ridiculously stupid idea!

Red Chess Queen : Quite ludicrous!

White Chess Queen : He was a lot of help wasn't he?

Red Chess Queen : Oh yes, obviously a man of high intelligence's.

[They both turn back and hops down the path but the red queens scarf drops on the ground]

Red Chess Queen : The lump of coal goes much better with my gown anyway. Black and red are imperial colors,

White Chess Queen : That's the silliest thing I ever heard. Red does not go with anything being much too self conscious, white is the perfect accompaniment to any color.

  • Beast : [as Alexander enters the Beasts garden, the Beast opens the hedge garden gate and walks up to Alexander]  Roar! Who dares enters Beast's garden?

Prince Alexander : My name is Alexander, I didn't mean to disturb your private garden.

Beast : No? And yet Monsieur, you could hardly have accidentally broken through, the three enchanted traps of Isle of the Beast,

Prince Alexander : Um... I suppose that it is simply my nature to breakthrough enchanted traps.

Beast : Grr. You must be a Prince then, I know the nature of princes all too well. This face you see before you is hideous is it not?

Prince Alexander : Well? For the face of a beast, it is really quite noble.

Beast : Hah! I'm glad you like it, for you will soon own one just like it. I too was once a pretty prince, caring for nothing but adventuring and rescuing fair maidens. But I wrangled one too many evil hags, one dark night, I was turned into this obscenity you see before you. Warped in shape and trapped on this enchanted island over a hundred years ago.

Prince Alexander : Surly there is a way off this island.

Beast : Oh surly, you broke in did you not? And yet think, where would I go clad so eloquently as I am with this silk and this pelt? You see, my prison is also my sanctuary, you are the first to break through the barriers in lo these many years, that is except for the druids who stole my heirloom Coat of Arms.

Prince Alexander : Is there anyway I can help?

Beast : Help? You? I'm afraid you don't understand, the enchanted barriers were a warning and protection for you more for me. Your prize for forcing your way past them is to join me in this dire life. By the laws of this sorcery, you are doomed to be trapped in the form of a beast. Your reward for approaching this garden is to be my slave. A slave as beastly as I am. You have only a few hours of humanity left.

Prince Alexander : But that's not possible! There must be someway to break the enchantment! Spells always have a weakness somewhere.

Beast : The enchantment you are under is tied to my own, oh the sorceress left me a way out. But I'm afraid it was her final bitter joke. You see, I need to only find a maiden to join me here, to share my castle, my life willingly. Take another look at me. You can't help but admire the hags terrible cruelty and cunning.

Prince Alexander : I shall try to find such a maid, for Cassimas sake.

Beast : Truly? How determined of you. I personally would not waste my few hours as a man on an impossible errand. However, you may do as you please. I give you this token. It's my family ring and the only heirloom I have left, if perchance you should, if you think you'll have found a maid. Roar.

[the Beast gives Alexander his insignia ring]

Prince Alexander : I shall give her this ring.

Beast : Yes, she must accept it from her own free will, by doing so, she accepts me, not that you shall find anyone mind you. Your time is short, count the minutes on your fingers while your fingers you have pretty prince. Your master will await you.

[the beast opens the gate into the hedge garden]

  • Beast : [as Alexander and Beauty enters the Beasts garden, the Beast opens the hedge garden gate and walks up to them]  I see you wear my ring. You willingly agree to spend your life here with me? Do you know what that means?

Beauty : Yes my lord I do. I have been touched by your story.

Beast : Pretty alone need not sentence you to endure this face.

Beauty : Oh. But it is a gentle face and kind.

Beast : You look at me so sweetly and are not repulsed, oh, by the light of your eyes, my spirit soars!

[Then the beast transforms into a human]

Beast : The enchantment! It is broken!

Beauty : I am pleased to have served you my lord. Do you still wish me to stay?

Beast : What? Speak not such nonsense Beauty. Do you think that I learned nothing of true love during my time here, you are my queen.

[Then Beauty's clothes change to royal clothes]

Beauty : Oh! My clothes! This gown!

Beast : How well it suits your noble heart.

Beauty : Alexander, how can I ever repay you? I have nothing to offer except my gratitude. But please, take these old clothes, perhaps you'll find someone in need during your travels.

Prince Alexander : You have already repaid me by your example of courage Beauty, and by your friendship I hope.

[Beauty gives Alexander her old dress]

Beast : You will always have our friendship and loyalty Prince Alexander, but from a fellow adventurer, take some advice, if you find your true love, protect her with your life. There are all beasts without the redeeming humanity of love, and to aid you, accept my mirror, now that my life is no longer hung in false shadows, I have no need for it. Give it to someone with nothing to fear from the truth that reveals.

[the gentleman gives Alexander the magic mirror]

Prince Alexander : Thank you, I wish you both well.

Beast : Come Beauty, let me take you home.

[Then the gentleman and Beauty goes into the Hedge garden gates]

  • Narrator : Alexander suddenly gets a very sneaky idea.

Prince Alexander : I can't go on anymore! Without Cassima, I'd just rather not live!

Pawnshop Owner : Prince Alex no!

Prince Alexander : It's true! The Vizier has beaten me! I give up! Poison is my last resort!

    Pawnshop Owner : Stop!

[Alexander drinks the drink me bottle]

Prince Alexander : I am... no... more...

[Alexander collapses on the ground and the Pawnshop Owner runs over to Alexander]

Pawnshop Owner : Oh what a waste, the poor young fool.

Shamir Shamazel : He's dead! He's dead! Wait until Abdul hears, he'll be so pleased!

[Shamir walks out of the shop]

  • Prince Alexander : Err, it's stuck it's...

[the ink bottle opens and it splatters invisible ink all over his shirt]

Prince Alexander : Whoa! The ink bottle isn't empty at all, it's full of invisible ink. Not very strong but, not bad.

[the ink fades and his shirt reappears]

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me merchant. But the ferryman mentioned that you might have a magic map to the land of the green isles.

Pawnshop Owner : Why, as a matter of fact I do, I keep it under the counter, it's been gathering dust so long, that I nearly forgot about it.

[the Pawnshop Owner puts the magic map on the counter]

Pawnshop Owner : It was quite a few years ago you see, the estate of a wealthy wizard fell into my hands when he died, it was useless magical junk mostly, which reminds me, I still got some things of his in the back that I needed to dump out. Anyway, the magic map was the one true treasure in the lot, the wizard was quite old and feeble and had enchanted the map to aid in traveling. It is said, that one need only desire to be on an island depicted on the map, to find one self there. It is a very valuable map as you can imagine, unfortunately, no one is interested in traveling these days, it is far too dangerous with the current state of the kingdom.

Prince Alexander : What would you take for the map?

Pawnshop Owner : I would normally want something magic in return, but, since I am hardly overrun with perspective buyers, I would be willing to take anything of equal value in exchange.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the ring icon on the Pawnshop Owner]  Would you be willing to take my family ring in exchange for the magic map?

Pawnshop Owner : Daventry? Are you a king then?

Prince Alexander : No. That's my father King Graham, I'm just Alexander.

Pawnshop Owner : Well Prince Alex, she is a beautiful ring, are you sure you can part with such a unique family heirloom?

Prince Alexander : The ring does mean a lot to me, I didn't always have a family you know, still, it is only gold. There are more important things at stake now.

Pawnshop Owner : Then you now own a magic map Prince Alex, I will keep your ring out of sight for a few days. If you find anything else of great value in your travels, you can come back for your ring, I would hate to see it melted down for gold. Ahh, and a warning about the map, it will only operate when you are out in the open and within sight of the sea, the limitation has something to do with the teleport spell ingredients. You might try the beach.

Prince Alexander : Thank you, you are very kind, and I'll remember about the map.

[Alexander takes the magic map off the counter]

Narrator : Suddenly, the old man in the concealing cloak sneaks past Alexander, and with a sneaky dart of his hand, steals a mint from the candy jar. The old man stuffs the mint into his mouth, and wobbles unsteadily out of the pawn shop.

  • Prince Alexander : Who are you?

Bump-on-a-log : I'm Bump on a log and that's my brother Stick in the mud. We've had this thing ever since our childhood, mama always liked me best.

Stick-in-the-mud : She did not! That is absolutely not true!

Bump-on-a-log : He's a bit lazy you see, he's got the only swamp ooze right next to him. But do you think he would move a finger to help you get some? Hardly, he tried to brain you with it likely, his temper is about the only thing that ever gets a workout, and that is on yours truly.

Stick-in-the-mud : Oh! Like you've moved at all in the last century! Like, you're Mr. Physical activity!

Bump-on-a-log : Sniff... Just because I can't reach anything, he thinks he can throw gushy swamp matter at me and say whatever he likes, if only I could turn the tables on that heckler, he might learn some respect, but as you can see, I'm a mere bump on a log, and must be content with my lot.

Stick-in-the-mud : OH SHUT UP! You couldn't hit the broad side of the barn, even if you hand something to throw, just SHUT UP!

Bump-on-a-log : You see how he is?

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the rose icon on Beauty]  Pardon me maid. I hope you don't think me forward, but I see that you like roses. I thought you might, perhaps, like a fresh white rose?

Narrator : Alexander can see the conflict in the girls pretty face, as she fights between her distrust of him and her desire for the white rose, the rose wins.

[Alexander gives Beauty the white rose and she smells it]

Beauty : Oh I shouldn't sir, but it is so lovely, I've never seen a rose of white, it looks so pale and delicate, wherever did you find one of such a color?

Prince Alexander : There are many hedges of them on the Isle of the Beast. And they grow together like magic.

Beauty : Oh truly? What an adventure that must be to see them, but I should not speak so, especially to a stranger. Thank you for the rose though, kind sir.

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the beast ring icon on Beauty]  Alexander has a thought about the serving girl, he decides to bring up the subject of Beast with her.

Prince Alexander : Let me tell you about the place where the white roses grow, the Isle of the Beast is an enchanted place, there's a path running through a deep forest. The path crosses three magic blockades, set to keep all visitors away. At the center lives a tremendous Beast.

Beauty : Really? Magic blockades? How exciting! What kind of a Beast? Is it very terrifying and ferocious?

Prince Alexander : It is a Beast that walks on two legs and dresses like a prince. It speaks with a voice of a man.

Beauty : A Beast that talks and wears clothes? How is that possible? Is the Beast magic too?

Prince Alexander : Not magical, enchanted. Beast was once a prince, but a witch trapped him in the form of a Beast and set him on the island. There he lives in a castle, in the midst of a maze.

Beauty : How terrible. Imagine how lonely he must be.

Prince Alexander : It is a very lonely prospect isn't it? Oh, I have met him you see. He is indeed ferocious, but, who would not be.

Beauty : He really exists? Oh how it breaks my heart, if I could, I would tend to such a Beast. Such a Beast might find comfort in a kind face. Do you not think it so?

Prince Alexander : Oh, I think it so. I very much think it so. You would not be afraid of him?

Beauty : Afraid? Maybe at first, but how silly of me to speak so. The roses in this little yard are the only magic that I will ever see.

Prince Alexander : I could take you there, in fact, I would owe you my life if you would go. If you truly wish to go.

Beauty : You are serious? I could leave here? Oh, I have always dreamt of leaving, but to actually go, this is the only home I have ever known.

Prince Alexander : Home is a hard place to leave. Even if you're unhappy there.

Beauty : But I will go, if I can help him, I must go.

[Beauty the serving girl walks over to the gate, she opens it and exits her front yard. She walks over to Alexander]

Prince Alexander : Is there nothing you wish to take with you?

    Beauty : There is, nothing.

Prince Alexander : Then take this ring, it is his. He will be pleased if you would wear it.

Beauty : Why, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Thank you kindly sir.

Beauty's Stepmother : Beauty! Where do you think you're going?

Beauty : To a place where roses grow and to someone who truly needs me.

  • Narrator : Alexander prepares to enchant the hunters lamp with the make rain spell incantation.

Prince Alexander : Clouds of thunder, shafts of light, come and sup with me tonight. Waters three have I for tea, brew a tempest now for me.

[Alexander waves his hand around the oil lamp until it glows in his hand]

Narrator : The lamp in Alexanders hand, gives a little perk, he hopes the spell works, despite his makeshift teapot.

  • Prince Alexander : [as Alexander walks in the bookshop, he walks up to Jollo]  Jollo, how fare are you? And what news have you from the castle?

Jollo : [Jollo stands up from his chair]  Prince Alex! Oh my fare is close to boiling. Have you seen the wedding proclamations around the village? I've heard rumors of the wedding of course, but I didn't wanna believe it, and I'd never thought it would be so soon.

Prince Alexander : Cassima, Married? Oh it is an unpleasant thing to swallow friend. If only I knew Cassima wished it. Tell me about the Vizier Jollo.

Jollo : The Vizier? Ho. Now there's a dangerous subject. His name is Abdul Alhazred. He came to the kingdom fifteen years ago. The king was fascinated by his knowledge and his fine sounding ideas. It didn't take long for Alhazred to convince the king to trust him with the, minor problems of daily government. You see, Caliphim had a wife and a new daughter he wanted to spend time with. Alhazred became Vizier.

    Prince Alexander : And now?

Jollo : Well, he's had his eye on Cassima ever since she was a young girl. And she is the only thing between him and the throne.

Prince Alexander : Do you think he means to harm her?

Jollo : Ho. I honestly don't know. I'd think he'd rather keep her as wife. But whatever's plans for the princess. He will use her to his best advantage. That's his way.

Prince Alexander : Perhaps he has charmed her. Perhaps she cares for him now.

Jollo : The Vizier is capable of anything. And Cassima must be vulnerable and lonely right now. Still, she has always instinctively distrusted him. Cassima has a good head on her shoulders. I'd be surprised if she's truly fallen for his words of love. I must return to the castle Prince Alex and you to your wanderings, may we both farewell.

[Jollo walks out of the bookshop]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the coal icon on one of the Chess Queens]  I found the two of you another Lump of Coal so that you can stop fighting over the one you have.

White Chess Queen : Oh let me see! A Lump of Coal and what a beauty it is too! Ooh marvelous! Now we can stop fighting sister, your highness can just keep the old Lump of Coal and I'll take this new one.

Red Chess Queen : Quite right, that settles everything.

White Chess Queen : As a token of our endless esteem and royal favor, please accept this magnificent and truly incredible spoiled egg.

Prince Alexander : Err, err, e thanks.

[Alexander gets the spoiled egg and the 2 Chess Queens hop down the path]

Red Chess Queen : Let me see that Lump of Coal your highness.

White Chess Queen : It is a beauty isn't it?

Red Chess Queen : Why, it's bigger than my Lump of Coal! Let me have it immediately!

White Chess Queen : Over my dead body your highness! It's my Lump of Coal, and it is indeed larger and much grander! Just look at that sheen.

Red Chess Queen : I demand you exchange with me immediately!

    [Alexander shrugs his shoulders]

  • Arch Druid : [Later, after a short but furious thunderstorm...]  I must apologize for our rude welcoming committee, we've been feeling inhospitable ever since the winged ones, stole our sacred miniature Oak Tree. Besides, Vizier Alhazred sent a message, that we were to watch out for a highly dangerous foreign assassin. I assume you are the one he meant.

Prince Alexander : I'm sure I'm precisely who he meant. I assure you, I mean to harm no one. Unless that person threatens the princess. Sorry to have disrupted your ceremony but I'm running out of time.

Arch Druid : What is it that you seek?

Prince Alexander : The Oracle on the Isle of the Sacred Mountain told me I should speak to you about the Realm of the Dead. She told me of two souls of unrest there that I might be able to free.

Arch Druid : Free souls in the Realm of the Dead? You're mad!

Prince Alexander : The souls might be able to help me on my mission to save the princess. It's imperative that I do everything I can. The risks are not important.

Arch Druid : No? And yet getting yourself killed will hardly help the princess. But I will tell you what I know. Legend has it that it is the right of any human to challenge the Lord of the Dead in order to save his own life. Or the life of another already passed. But the knowledge of how to do this was lost centuries ago. I have only heard of one who tried it. A young knight who came to the Land of the Green Isles from a distant land long ago. According to the story, he was determined to challenge the Lord of the Dead. For the soul of his dead lover, it is said that he tamed the Lord of the Deads horse, a black winged demon hearted beast named Nightmare. Nightmare sometimes flies to the human world to feed on certain luxurious plants. Those unfortunate enough to see her are glad to escape with their very souls intact. Somehow, the knight captured Nightmare and rode off on her back, supposedly to the Realm of the Dead. But Knight of the night nor his lover ever returned. If there was a means for challenge, it was lost with the Knight.

Prince Alexander : I see. Can you tell me anything about the Lord of the Dead?

Arch Druid : Ahh, that is a blacker matter still. To the Druids he is Samhain, Lord of coldness and despair. Samhain was once a man like you or I, but he insulted the Gods, and was sentenced to rule the underworld. Immortal he is and mateless, robbed of sleep, robbed of movement, robbed of companionship. It is said, that he hates all mortals, even more for the mortally that he lost. That is all I know.

Prince Alexander : Interesting, I shall remember.

Arch Druid : Now look how the oak embers of our bonfire still glow hot despite the rain. If you're bent on your course, you'll need courage that's just as impervious to the sheerer. Sigh, may your luck last longer than your storm pray you've won.

Prince Alexander : May it indeed, thanks Arch Druid.

[the Arch Druid and his 2 Druid guards walk away from the campfire to their home]

  • Prince Alexander : Good day, sir. I'm a stranger in this land. What can you tell me about the Land of the Green Isles?

Ali : That is quite a question, young man. Who are you? And what would you have me tell you?

Prince Alexander : My name is Alexander. I know I'm on the Isle of the Crown, but I'd like to know whatever you can tell me about this island, and if there are other islands nearby.

Ali : You are indeed a stranger. Anxious is the man who knows not the customs of the land beneath his feet. This island is called the Isle of the Crown because the royal family's castle is here. Besides the castle, we also have this village, and the docks over to the west. There are at least three other islands, the Isle of the Sacred Mountain, the Isle of the Beast, and the Isle of Wonder.

Prince Alexander : At least three? Does no one know for certain?

Ali : Ha ha ha ha ha. This is no ordinary land, Alexander. The Land of the Green Isles has always been a place of vague boundaries as if islands come and go. Legend speaks of a fourth island, an isle shrouded in mists. I myself have never seen it. Then too, the Land of the Green Isles is said to exist on the boundaries of this world and the next. Even darker places are reputed to be closer here than anywhere else in the world.

    Prince Alexander : That's quite a claim!

Ali : Heh heh heh. Claim yes, but probably just local superstition. We who live here on the Isle of the Crown, at least, sleep well enough at night.

Prince Alexander : Those first three islands you mentioned. How might I learn more about them?

Ali : Ideally, a young man seeking such knowledge would travel to their shores and learn about them first-hand. Meeting the leaders of each place would be helpful, naturally. Unfortunately, the ferry no longer runs between the islands. There has been much political unrest, and it has been too dangerous to travel for years. Perhaps the ferryman can tell you more. He has little enough to do these days. And if you haven't been there already, you might seek an audience at the castle.

Prince Alexander : Thank you kindly merchant, for all your good advice.

Ali : Ah, but advice is free Alexander. Making use of it costs much more.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player chooses the mechanical bird]  That mechanical nightingale looks intriguing. I believe I'll take it.

Pawnshop Owner : Very well. Your coin is well spent. Remember, this is a pawn shop. I am always willing to take back my own goods in trade.

Prince Alexander : I'll remember. Thank you.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the pearl icon on the Pawnshop Owner]  I found this large pearl. Might it be valuable enough to ransom back my family ring?

Pawnshop Owner : Whistle. I have never seen such a perfect pearl. Certainly, you can have your ring back.

Prince Alexander : Ahh I'm glad you didn't sell it. I'm a bit attached to it, I'm afraid.

Pawnshop Owner : Of course you are. You would be cold-hearted if you felt any differently. I am happy to see a family heirloom back with its rightful owner.

  • Prince Alexander : I have this copper coin. Is it of any value to you at all?

Pawnshop Owner : Hmm most interesting. I've never seen a Daventry coin before, but it is copper genuine enough. I might even find a buyer who is interested in foreign currency. The items on the front counter are the only things in the store that I can let go for the price of one copper. You may make your choice from there.

Narrator : Alexander looks at the items on the counter to make his selection.

  • Prince Alexander : Hello, little nightingale. Of what do you sing?

Narrator : The nightingale only looks at Alexander curiously and continues to sing.

  • Narrator : It's a red velvet hair ribbon! Could it be? Could it possibly belong to Cassima herself?

Prince Alexander : Or am I merely wishing it were so sigh?

  • Prince Alexander : Listen here pond! I wish to pass!

Narrator : The pond, rather hotheadedly refuses to respond.

  • Prince Alexander : Perhaps you could toss me some swamp ooze since you seem to be able to recognize it. I can only reach this bit by the path.

Stick-in-the-mud : Well, hoity-toity, look who's Mr. Want-so-much! You think I gotta job here passing around precious swamp matter? You should be so lucky!

Bump-on-a-log : He's an utter waste of oxygen. I'd save my breath if I were you.

  • Black Widow : Mmm Wow! Hiya, Gorgeous. What a luscious-looking hunk of flesh you are!

Prince Alexander : Uh... thank you. I guess. Who are you?

Black Widow : Sigh. How charming of you to pretend not to know! I'm Black Widow, of course, the femme fatale of all femme fatales. Know what I mean? Mmm you know, I was just thinking it was time I found my fiftieth... er... another husband. It would be quite a horror... I mean an honer to have me as a bride. Just look at my beautiful weaving! It's so light, so delicate, you'll never want to leave my little nest. Just look at my beautiful weaving! It's so light, so delicate, you'll never want to leave my little nest.

Prince Alexander : Hmm. It is a lovely web, but my heart is elsewhere, I'm afraid.

Black Widow : OH DRAT! Um... I mean, the loss is yours. I'm sure you'll change your mind once you consider the advantages.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the Dangling Participle icon on the Giant Bookworm]  I found this little fellow lost on another island.

Dangling Participle : [Alexander sets the Dangling Participle on the ground]  Coming home, I am TO!

Bookworm : There you are , you naughty boy! I told you not to leave the island!

Dangling Participle : Glad I am seeing you too!

Oxymoron : [Then Oxymoron pops up out of the book]  A most he hae, solemn celebration!

Diphthong : [Then Diphthong pops up out of the book]  Gooeeeoo!

Bookworm : So, you found my dangling participle! I suppose I'll have to give you something. Let's see now, was it a rare book you wanted?

    Prince Alexander : Yes sir.

Bookworm : Well, then none of these will do. They've been sitting in the sun far too long and must be well-cooked by now. This one is far more rare. A delicious little tidbit. Hmm.

[the giant Bookworm goes into his books and pulls out a rare book and gives it to Alexander. Then he goes back into his books]

    Prince Alexander : Uh, thanks.

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks on the poem page]  Alexander picks up the fallen page. It's the love poem he particularly liked. It must've fallen out of the poetry book.

Ali : I see that old volume has lost another page. You may keep it if you like sir. I have glued this stubborn thing back in place two times already!

Prince Alexander : I do rather like it. Thank you, merchant.

  • Prince Alexander : How much for that book on the counter, merchant?

Ali : It is a fine book, is it not? I obtained it from the estate of the one and only magician this kingdom has ever had. Poofed himself into an aardvark in the end, or so I heard. I never found the spells all that useful myself, but then I lead a boring life. I tell you what, if you can find another rare book, something a bit more marketable, I might be willing to exchange the spell book for it.

  • Bookworm : [If the player clicks on the books, Alexander will grab a book and the Giant Bookworm will appear floating in midair]  Do you have anything interesting yet? A subordinate clause, maybe?

Prince Alexander : Uh... let me see what I have.

  • Prince Alexander : [If Alexander talks to the 2 Chess Knights, they will block the entrance]  Excuse me, what land lies beyond?

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : What land? Chessboard Land, ye knave!

Prince Alexander : I see. And is Chessboard Land part of the Land of the Green Isles?

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : It is the home of the red and white queens, rulers of the Isle of Wonder, fairest of the islands that owe loyalty to the king of the Land of the Green Isles!

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : But perhaps not for long!

Prince Alexander : What do you mean?

Chess Knights, Additional Voices : What is the purpose of unity with the great king and queen dead? The princess is worth serving, but the feud with the other isles is strong.

[the Chess Knights go back to their posts while the White Queen and Red Queen hops over to the entrance]

  • Narrator : Alexander picks a head of iceberg lettuce.

Prince Alexander : Ye gads, is that cold!

  • Narrator : Alexander decides to brave the steaming pond.

[Alexander hops through the hot pond to the other side]

Prince Alexander : Ouch! Ow! Ooh! Ouch!

Narrator : The pond is no longer boiling, but it's hardly bath water.

  • Narrator : Alexander politely addressees the odd looking guards at the castle doors. Hoping to learn more about his predicament.

Prince Alexander : Good day to you, guards. I was cast upon this island in a storm, and I'm a little confused about my location. Could you tell me what place this is, and who lives in this castle?

Gruff : Eh? What is that you say? A castaway? A likely story! We haven't had any foreigners in this part since Alhazred arrived!

Woof : Baa Don't be so rude, Gruff! He's not asking for any secrets. You're standing on the Isle of the Crown, lad, and this is the Castle of the Crown. The royal family resides here. Or, rather, what's left of the royal family.

Prince Alexander : The Isle of the Crown? But tell me, am I anywhere near the Land of the Green Isles?

Gruff : This is the Land of the Green Isles! The Isle of the Crown is the main island, foolish boy!

Prince Alexander : Then Princess Cassima must live in this very castle!

Woof : Aye! The princess is indeed our treasured jewel to guard and we consider it an honor!

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the ring icon on the guard dogs]  Alexander decides to show his royal insignia ring to the Castle of the Crown guards. With all of his papers lost in the shipwreck, it is the only possible calling card he can think of.

Prince Alexander : Good day. I'm Prince Alexander of Daventry. I'm an acquaintance of Princess Cassima, if you could inform her that I'm here please.

Gruff : Heh! So everyone says. Let me just look at that ring!

Woof : What does it say Gruff?

Gruff : Kingdom of Daventry, Prince Alexander, Sigh! Wait here while I go see what Captain Saladin thinks of this!

[the guard dog opens the gates, goes inside and brings out Captain Saladin to meet Alexander]

Narrator : The guard returns a moment later with a majestic looking creature. Captain Saladin speaks with a voice that is gentle but reflects a will of iron.

Captain Saladin : Prince Alexander of Daventry, I presume. I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with your country, but I'm sure Vizier Alhazred will want to meet you if indeed, you are a friend of the princess. Please, follow me.

[Alexander walks in the castle doors with Captain Saladin and the guard dog closes the gate]

  • Prince Alexander : Hmmm. This tapestry looks familiar... Now let's see... I don't feel anything... AHA! A hidden latch!

    [the stone door opens]

Narrator : Alexander triggers the little latch. A secret door rolls open.

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me! I demand the release of that maiden this instant, you fiend!

Narrator : Lady Celeste looks wildly around the room for the source of the strange voice and spots Alexander.

Lady Celeste : You there! Human! Help me! HELP!

[the Minotaur stops what he's doing and faces Alexander]

Minotaur : Growl! Who Dares enter my lair?

Prince Alexander : I ask you to release your captive or suffer the consequences!

Minotaur : ROAR! Never! You die, human!

Narrator : As the minotaur advances in attack, Alexander slowly back away... Until he can back away no more!

Minotaur : Now where to little man? Growl!

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the rare book icon on Ali]  I found this rare book and I thought of your offer.

Ali : Very interesting! Oh it is a wonderful riddle book. Riddles are much more marketable than spells these days. I guess people believe more in mirth than in magic. Here is the spell book you wanted, and a fair trade it is, I must say. Enjoy it.

[Ali takes the rare book and gives the spell book to Alexander]

Prince Alexander : I certainly hope so. We shall see how rusty my spell casting truly is.

  • Prince Alexander : [as Alexander walks in the bookshop he walks over to Jollo]  Jollo my friend. Is the wedding still moving forward at the castle?

Jollo : Prince Alex, Ye gads, yes! That confounded wedding has a whole castle a bustle. Look, I didn't come here to talk about that though. I came to warn you.

Prince Alexander : Warn me? About what? Isn't the wedding bad enough?

Jollo : No! listen. The vizier knows that you're here Alexander. He's posted extra guards and he's telling them about a foreign saboteur who else could he mean but you. The viziers genie must've learned of your presence in the land Prince Alex. Hoo hoo hoo! I don't know but he must have.

Prince Alexander : I haven't exactly been discreet I'm afraid.

Jollo : Alexander this is serious! Alhazred will never let you get close to Cassima now. He's doubled the castle guard probably to make sure you keep out. Gadzooks Oh it's too bad there isn't some way to convince Alhazred that you've left the islands, even died. If he thought you were out of the way, you might be able to get close enough to...

Prince Alexander : Hmmm... What an interesting thought. Tell me more about this genie.

Jollo : The genies name is Shamir Shamazel. Alhazred brought Shamir with him when he came to this kingdom. Shamir probably won't directly threaten you. But that doesn't mean he isn't dangerous. He can be a terrible trickster and ingenious spy. Sigh, it's too bad we can't get our hands on Shamirs lamp. If we had that lamp, Alhazred and all our problems would be solved. Hoo hoo. Wouldn't that be a fine thing?

Prince Alexander : You would wish to be master of such a wicked creature?

Jollo : Oh Shamir isn't necessary evil, Genies never are you know. They only reflect the owners heart for good or ill. Alhazred is hardly a shining example. For an impressionable genie.

Prince Alexander : Hmmm... So how do you propose we go about getting Shamirs lamp.

Jollo : What? Oh Prince Alex, I was only dreaming, I mean the lamp is heavily guarded, it would be easier to steal Alhazreds own trousers while he's wearing them than it would be to get that lamp.

Prince Alexander : But surly a clowns hands are quick and agile.

Jollo : Well yes, they are as a matter of fact. But then the theft would be detected almost immediately and then... Gulp, my poor neck.

Prince Alexander : If the theft were detected.

Jollo : Oh, I see! Yes well, there might be a slim chance. But only that, if you could find a replica of the genies lamp, an exact replica, I might be able to make the swap. I alone might get close enough. But I couldn't tell you what to look for. I caught a glimpse of it only once, I would know it if I saw it again. Just say I... I cannot.

[It's actually the Blue bottle lamp which he never said to Alexander]

Prince Alexander : Well I'll just have to see what I can do.

Jollo : Good luck to you then Prince Alex, I uh, really must be going back to the castle. I don't think I'll be able to come back here. If we were spied on, well, it's too high a risk. I hope you understand. If I see Cassima, I'll tell her I saw you. If you do ever make it to the castle, look me up and do be careful friend.

Prince Alexander : I will. Goodbye Jollo, and thanks for all your help.

[Jollo walks out of the bookshop]

  • Prince Alexander : [If Alexander trades one of the four pawnshop items to the pawnshop owner]  Would you mind if I traded this in?

Narrator : Of course, Prince Alex. Please, choose something in exchange from the items on the counter.

Narrator : Alexander looks closely at the items on the counter to make his selection.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player chooses the flute]  I'll take the flute.

Pawnshop Owner : The flute? Very good, Prince Alex. May its music always be sweet. Feel free to trade it back at any time.

    Prince Alexander : Thank you.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the flute icon on the shy wallflowers]  May I have this dance?

Shy Wallflowers : Oh my! Tee, hee!

[Alexander plays the flute and the Snapdragons and Shy Wallflowers dance]

Narrator : Alexander stops playing the flute, but the wallflowers and snapdragons continue to dance, caught up in the music and oblivious to everything around them.

Narrator : [If the player clicks the hand icon on Hole-in-the-wall]  While the wallflowers dance, Alexander snatches the hole-in-the-wall!

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player chooses the tinderbox]  I believe I'll take the tinder box.

Pawnshop Owner : Very good, Prince Alex. Enjoy your tinder box, and bring it back anytime.

    Prince Alexander : Thank you.

  • Winged One : Look! An intruder!

Winged One : Hold! How did you get up here, human?

Prince Alexander : I climbed the cliffs.

Winged One : That is not possible! No one has solved the Cliffs of Logic in several centuries- and if the cliffs were to be solved, it would certainly not be by a human!

Prince Alexander : I... I didn't mean to trespass. I only wanted to visit this beautiful island.

Winged One : No visitors have been welcome on the Isle of the Sacred Mountain in years! Not since the red and white queens had spies in the guise of friendly visitors steal our island's sacred golden fleece! But we will not display such foolish trust again! You will have to answer to Lord Azure and Lady Aeriel. They will determine what will be done with you! I can assure you, it will not be pleasant!

[the winged human guards grabs Alexanders arms and flies him up to the palace on a tall pillar]

  • Lord Azure : I see you have proven yourself the hero of the prophecy. Well, I am expected to thank you for saving my daughter's life, so I thank you. I am obliged to thank you for the restoration of our sacred catacombs. It means much to our people We have already begun the process of clearing the deadly traps from its rooms. It is also my duty to grant you a visit with the Oracle, so this I do. I will grant you the freedom to leave here unharmed, despite my orders to the contrary from the Crown. But there my obligations to you end. I have no love for Alhazred, but he is my liege, and if Princess Cassima trusts him and wishes to wed him... My guards will take you to the Oracle now. When your time with her is through, I want you to leave the City of the Winged Ones and never return. I don't know who you are or what you want here, but I will not disobey my Crown further.

Prince Alexander : I thank you, Lord Azure. I will respect your wishes.

[Then Alexander is flown over to the Oracle on the mountain]

  • Narrator : Alexander solemnly speaks the incantation over the skull.

Prince Alexander : Creature of Night, to me succumb! Fire and Brimstone leave thee numb. Purity bind thee like a chain. To do what ere I now ordain!

[the horse neighs as the smoke tickles her nose]

Narrator : Night Mare flares her nostrils at the scent of the fire and brimstone.

Prince Alexander : That's it! Come on. I need passage to your homeland, fiery one!

[the winged horse walks over to Alexander]

Narrator : Unable to resist the power of the enchanted smell, Night Mare approaches Alexander. Her eyes appear glassy and sightless. In her hypnotized state, she is unaware of the human so close to her flank or of anything at all except that marvelous smell!

[Alexander climbs up on the Winged horse]

    Prince Alexander : Now ride!

[Then Night Mare flies Alexander to the Realm of the Dead]

Narrator : Night Mare deposits Alexander on a strange, cold world. And some of the inhabitants don't look too friendly!

  • Prince Alexander : Who are you, grieving spirits?

Queen Allaria : I am Queen Allaria of the Land of the Green Isles, and this beloved spirit is my husband, King Caliphim. We were murdered in our beds by our trusted vizier. Like a viper, he snuck in during the night and stabbed us in our sleep! Now my husband's soul is broken and he will not speak.

Prince Alexander : Then you are the ones I seek. Are you not the parents of Princess Cassima?

Queen Allaria : Our daughter! Have you news of the princess?

Prince Alexander : I know that she is alive and safely back in her kingdom after being rescued from Mordack. But I'm afraid I have not personally seen her. Alhazred is keeping her in her room in mourning for you.

Queen Allaria : I am glad to hear of her return, but she will not be safe alone with that devil! Oh, that we could be there to protect her!

King Caliphim : Cassima! How I've failed thee!

Queen Allaria : My poor husband will never rest while our murder goes unavenged and our daughter is in danger!

Prince Alexander : I came to take you back with me. Your people are still loyal to you. They need to know about the vizier. Cassima needs you too.

Queen Allaria : But this is the Realm of the Dead! We cannot leave it! Nor, for that matter, can you. The only one who might be able to return us all to the land of the living is the Lord of the Dead, but he would never help us. He has no mercy.

Prince Alexander : I might be able to convince him. I must try.

Queen Allaria : Then, take this. It is my ticket to the Underworld. There you will find the Lord of the Dead. I cannot use the ticket as long as I'm chained here, and if we cannot be avenged, I will never be unchained.

Prince Alexander : Thank you. Perhaps it will save us all.

[Queen Allaria gives the ticket to Alexander]

Queen Allaria : Be careful young man. If you can ease my husband's torment and help our daughter, we will be most grateful.

Prince Alexander : I will do my best. Goodbye, Queen Allaria.

  • Prince Alexander : Why do you not rest, sad spirit?

Mother Ghost : Rest? I cannot rest! My son is lost!

Prince Alexander : Lost? You mean in this realm?

Mother Ghost : No! His spirit is stuck in the land of the living- probably looking for me! But I cannot leave to go show him the way! My poor Ali!

Prince Alexander : Is there anything I can do?

Mother Ghost : Take this handkerchief. If you get back to the land of the living and find him, tell him that his mother is waiting for him here. By this kiss, he'll be able to find his way to the Realm of the Dead.

Prince Alexander : I'll do my best to find him.

Mother Ghost : Thank you, thank you! Oh, my Ali!

[the mother ghost gives Alexander her handkerchief before she disappears]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the ticket icon on the Ticket Taker Skeleton]  I have a ticket.

Ticket Taker Skeleton : Go on! Next!

[Alexander walks inside the gates of the underworld]

  • Prince Alexander : Nice bone structure.

    Narrator : Thanks.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the 2 coin icon on Charon]  Will these coins do as fare for passage?

Narrator : Charon accepts the fare and waves Alexander onto the boat.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player spells out the word Love]  The answer is Love.

Gate : Arrggh! Thou traitor of the mortal plane! How didst thou guess Love? That riddle should never have been solved! Love is unknown in this realm!

Prince Alexander : Love cannot be banished even from this place! There are spirits still pining of it on the surface above. Still less can it be banished from my heart.

Gate : Enough! Burden me not with thine poetry! Pass through and quickly, before I change my mind!

[Then Gate opens the door for Alexander and he walks into the throne room]

  • Prince Alexander : Good day peddler.

Lamp Seller : Good day, sir. If you would like to get one of my fine new lamps, I'll need an old lamp in trade.

Prince Alexander : Isn't it rather a bad business, taking old lamps and giving new lamps in exchange?

Lamp Seller : Well, there's always a chance that I'll find a genie. If I had a genie, I'd be richer than a king! Beside, there's always a roaring business in antique illuminaries.

  • Prince Alexander : I'm a visitor to these islands. I'd like to learn what I can about the area.

Ferryman : So ya said outside. What is it ya want to know?

Prince Alexander : Well, for one thing, why has the island's only ferry been dry-docked?

Ferryman : Hmph. It just ain't safe to sail these days, what with the islands feuding and all. Vizier Alhazred ordered the ferry closed til things settle down. Me, I don't think she'll ever see water again. Sigh.

Prince Alexander : But what are the islands feuding?

Ferryman : Ya got me. Something about stolen property or some such thing. Tis a real shame. Things used to be so friendly.

Prince Alexander : Then this unrest is recent.

Ferryman : A few years is all, but it's been long enough.

Prince Alexander : Perhaps if the ferry were repaired?

Ferryman : This old thing? This ferry's been out of water so long, she's no longer even seaworthy. Her boards have dry rot. She'd fall apart at the first taste of seawater!

Prince Alexander : But there must be some way to get off this island!

Ferryman : There's only one other way to travel that I know of, a magic map. The owner of the Pawn Shoppe can tell ya more about that than I can, Alexander.

  • Prince Alexander : Tell me more about the ferry.

Ferryman : I remember when I used to ferry Queen Allaria and Princess Cassima themselves! There was no thought of danger back then. They used to go visiting to care for the needy and to keep up the friendly relations between the islands. I remember their last trip. Things had started getting nasty by then, and when they came back aboard I gathered that the queen and the princess had been received a bit coldly. Princess Cassima was such a pretty thing, and she was terribly upset. But, who could be spreading these lies? she asked the queen. But the queen had no answer.

  • Prince Alexander : What do you do now that the ferry no longer operates?

Ferryman : Me? I'm out of a job, the job my ancestors have held for generations. I'm the only one trained to avoid the reef and the rocks, but that knowledge does me no good now.

Prince Alexander : Is there no other boat on the island? One that might be more seaworthy?

Ferryman : Boats don't last long on these shoals, as ya may have found out if ya got here by ship. Ya can be quite sure that this ole ferry is, or was, the only craft on the island.

  • Prince Alexander : Tell me more about Princess Cassima.

Ferryman : Ah! Such a beautiful child! And so pure of heart! Why, a contrary thought has never crossed her mind. Her mother was the same. The king and queen, they served the islands, not the other way around. Always thinking bout the people. Sigh. They are sorely missed.

  • Prince Alexander : What else can you tell me about the Land?

Ferryman : Let's see. The Isle of Wonder's a lovely spot. A bit crazy, mind Ya. Gotta have a good sense of humor to enjoy a tour there.

  • Prince Alexander : What else can you tell me about the Land?

Ferryman : The Isle of the Beast is pretty, but unfortunately ya can't get very far onto the island.

  • Prince Alexander : What else can you tell me about the Land?

Ferryman : The inhabitants of the Isle of the Sacred Mountain are the most gorgeous creatures ya'll ever see. If ya ever get to see them, that is.

  • Prince Alexander : What else can you tell me about the Land?

Ferryman : The Castle of the Crown sure is a beauty. She's the finest palace ever built, I'll warrant.

  • Prince Alexander : What else can you tell me about the Land?

Ferryman : Some say that the Land of the Green Isles is near the edge of the world, and that the deadly currents are a result of a magnetism that sucks life from this world to the next. Of course, that's just silly talk...

  • Prince Alexander : Why aren't you asleep like the other oysters?

Sleepy Oyster : Ohh! I'm so weary, but I can't sleep. I have a terrible ache in my mouth.

  • Prince Alexander : What's wrong with your mouth?

Sleepy Oyster : No offense, but it hurts too much to talk.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the book icon on the sleepy oyster]  If you're having trouble sleeping, perhaps you'd like me to read to you.

Sleepy Oyster : Hey! That would be great!

[Alexander walks over to the Sleepy Oyster, sits on the rock and opens up the book. A close up camera shot of the sleepy oyster on the bed shows up]

Prince Alexander : Two dulcimas raised to the degree of forty half dulcimas, divided into equal parts by the third of a cackle of grouse geese, put over the result of ten finemackels, albeit small finemackels, stretched over the total of fifty-three and an eighth bottles of wildebeast lard...

[Then the sleepy oyster yawns which opens his mouth revealing a white pearl in his mouth]

Prince Alexander : yields a gilded minnow of precise measurements, two thousand sixty-nine centidrils by three million twenty-three and six-sevenths punds, not punts, as might be expected. This is not to say, however, in any sense, whatsoever, that deviations in mean temperature of five or six dregs or so...

[Then the sleepy oyster yawns again which opens his mouth revealing a white pearl in his mouth]

  • Winged One : Why did you tell Lord Azure you were ready and willing to face the catacombs? No one is ever ready and only a fool could be willing!

Prince Alexander : And you are far wiser, I suppose, to leave a maiden to die, to not fight this plague on your own people?

Winged One : Bravery and suicide are two different things, human! You will have a chance to renounce your choice soon enough, when you lay trembling under the Minotaur's hooves!

Prince Alexander : We shall see! Thanks for the escort.

Winged One : We only escort you to your death! May the Fates make it quick so that you do not have to scream long!

[Then the Winged One guards shoves Alexander inside the big wooden door and locks the door behind him]

Narrator : The catacombs entrance door is locked from the outside by the Winged Ones guards. It seems that leaving the catacombs by that door is not an option.

  • Prince Alexander : [the floor collapses under Alexander]  Zounds! A trap floor!

Narrator : [Alexander falls down the trap, he lands, survives the fall and lands in a dark room]  Alexander seems to have fallen to a lower level of the catacombs. Wherever he is, the place sure is dark! Alexander can't even see his hand in front of his face.

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the tinder box icon on Alexander in a dark catacomb]  Alexander takes the candle from his tinder box and uses the flint in the box to light it.

Prince Alexander : Aha! So that's why its dark in here! A torch is out.

[Alexander walks over to the extinguished torch and relights it]

Narrator : Alexander lights the extinguished torch and puts his tinder box away.

  • Narrator : Alexander picks up the two bones on the ground. Now what do these bones remind him of?

Prince Alexander : Ah, yes! Now I remember!

[Alexander plays a song called Dem Bones]

Narrator : The skeletons are overcome with the musical call of the bones. They begin to jiggle, then to dance!

[the 2 Skeleton Guards, The Ticket Taker Skeleton and Skeleton Gatekeeper dance around and the skeleton key flies loose from the key ring on the ground while the 3 skeletons dance together]

Narrator : Alexander finishes his tune and the skeletons resume their posts. Despite their frolic, they don't seem any friendlier!

  • Prince Alexander : Excuse me. I'd like an audience please.

Narrator : The shrouded guards escort Alexander to the throne of the Lord of the Dead.

Lord of the Dead : Why have you entered my domain still wearing your flesh? If you are so anxious for Death, you might have found it easily enough in the land of the living. But, since you are here, you are most welcome to stay. Kiss my hand, and you will be one with the spirits. There will be no pain.

  • Narrator : Oh no! Alexander loses his balance!

[Alexander falls down from the stepping stone and survives the fall for the third time]

Prince Alexander : Ow! Hey Quit making me fall!

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the dress icon on Alexander]  Taking his cue from the serving women he's seen enter the castle, Alexander decides to try a few alterations to make himself more acceptable to the guards. He ducks into the little hut to put on Beauty's Clothes. Feeling a little foolish, Alexander slips Beauty's old slave clothes on over his own. Imagine if Cassima saw him like this.

Prince Alexander : [Alexander wears Beauty's dress and makes himself look like a cross dresser]  Well, sigh, here we go.

Gruff : [Alexander walks up to the castle gate and Woof opens the castle gate]  You there! Girl! You're late! Get a move on before the Vizier sees you!

Prince Alexander : Yes! Ahem, Yes sir.

[Alexander walks inside the castle and Woof closes the gate behind him]

Narrator : The castle guards locks the main entrance doors behind Alexander. From the open door, comes the clatter of pots and pans. Yelled instructions and other busy kitchen noises.

[Then a Man Cook opens the left door and looks at Alexander]

Man Cook : Girl! Don't just stand there, there's a stack of silver almost to the ceiling that needs polishing for the wedding! Get a move on!

[Then the Man Cook walks over to the right door and opens it, he closes it and locks it behind him]

Prince Alexander : Phew. I can't afford to get caught up in that mess, I'd never find Cassima.

[Alexander takes off the dress being in his former clothes he now wears. He throws Beauty's clothes away in the big urn jar]

  • Prince Alexander : [after Alexander, Allaraia, and Caliphim on the winged horse lands on the beach. Alexander dismounts off the horse]  Are you coming, Majesty?

King Caliphim : Alhazred's treachery must be handled carefully, Alexander. Allaria and I must go gather our allies and form a plan. Watch over Cassima. Make sure she comes to no harm. We will return as soon as we can to take back all that has been stolen from us.

Prince Alexander : I will keep her safe until your return.

Queen Allaria : Thank you, son. Your love for our daughter must be deep indeed for you to have undertaken Death itself for our sakes.

King Caliphim : Indeed. May we succeed in what awaits us, and live long together as a family.

[Then the black winged horse flies off with Caliphim and Allaria]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the oil lamp on the Lamp Seller]  Excuse me, peddler, but I have an old lamp that might interest you.

Lamp Seller : Ah! An old lamp! And what a nice traditional design too! Take a pick of my new lamps.

[the Lamp Seller stands up and then a camera closeup shot shows the 6 different lamps the player has to select]

  • Lamp Seller : [If the player picks one of the six lamps, Hopefully the player picks the Blue cork bottle lamp. Otherwise the player can't trade with Jollo later on]  Ah, a fine choice, my son. Here is your new lamp. Good day, and I thank you sir.

    [Alexander gets the new lamp]

    Prince Alexander : Good day.

[the old man Lamp Seller walks off and stops to rub the lamp, but nothing happens]

Lamp Seller : Drat! Another dud!

[the Lamp Seller walks off screen]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player chooses the painters brush]  I think I'd like the painter's brush.

Pawnshop Owner : Very good, Prince Alex. The painter's brush it is. May your painting go well. Feel free to bring the brush back at any time.

    Prince Alexander : Thank you.

  • Prince Alexander : What's the matter, little boy?

Ghost Child : I'm lost! I can't find my mother! I don't know why she would just leave me here! I've been alone ever so long! Mother? Mother, where are you?

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the ghost handkerchief icon on the ghost boy]  You must the son of the spirit I met in the Realm of the Dead. She gave me this handkerchief, and asked me to tell you that she's waiting for you there.

Ghost Child : [the ghost boy gets up and floats in midair]  It's Mama's! It even smells like her! I can feel her now! I know where to go!

Prince Alexander : Wait! Before you go, is there anything you can tell me about the castle?

Ghost Child : I like to play in secret places. In the basement, behind the man of steel, is a door. Nobody except me knows it's there anymore. Farewell!

[the Ghost boy takes the handkerchief and flies out of the dungeon room to the Realm of the Dead]

  • Narrator : Alexander decides to find out what's on the other side of that door.

[Alexander enters Jollo's room, if Alexander made friends with Jollo earlier, Jollo will be excited to see Alexander and Alexander will walk over to Jollo]

Jollo : Prince Alexander! I can't believe you're here! The wedding is supposed to start any minute!

Prince Alexander : I am well aware of that fact, Jollo. Confound it! I've seen Cassima. She does not want to marry him, Jollo!

Jollo : Really? Oh, my friend, I'm so happy for that! Thank heaven she hasn't lost her senses and actually fallen for that black hearted Alhazred! Did you say that she is well?

Prince Alexander : She is unharmed if that's what you mean for the moment, at least. But I have a feeling she won't be fine at all if we can't stop the wedding.

Jollo : Stop the wedding? Oh, You'd never even make it to the ceremony, Alexander. The Guard dogs are everywhere, and they're very loyal to the Crown. Unfortunately, right now, the Crown means Alhazred. If we had proof of something truly afoul, the guard dogs might listen. As it is, they're your enemies, not his.

Prince Alexander : I understand. I've had no lack of enemies since I got here. Still, I can hardly stand by and do nothing.

Jollo : There's probably a good reason why so many wish to harm you. I believe the vizier's genie has learned of your presence on the islands.

Prince Alexander : Tell me about this genie.

Jollo : Alhazred brought the genie with him when he came to this kingdom. It is seldom that the genie will take human life himself. Usually, he is more of a trickster and a spy, but that doesn't mean he isn't dangerous. In fact, he's quite powerful. If for example, we could get the genie's lamp, then you could master the genie. Alhazred and all our other problems would be solved.

Prince Alexander : Hmmm. Is that merely wishful thinking or do you have something in mind?

Jollo : Well... I admit, I have often daydreamed about owning that lamp. My fingers are nimble enough, and I could probably find the chance to steal it. Unfortunately, the theft would be detected immediately, and I happen to prefer my neck attached to my body!

Prince Alexander : If the theft were detected.

Jollo : Exactly! So I have also thought! If I had a replica of the genie's lamp, an exact replica, I just might be able to... Bah! Where would we get a replica of the genie's lamp? Hoo hoo. Ah, dreaming is pleasant, but I'm afraid it won't help you stop the wedding. But, for Cassima's sake, I wish you luck.

    Prince Alexander : Thanks, Jollo.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the correct blue corked bottle icon on Jollo]  I've been thinking about what you said about swapping a replica for the genie's lamp. I got this lamp from the old lampseller in town. Do you think it will pass?

Jollo : [Jollo takes the blue bottle lamp]  Why Yes! It's an exact replica! That's amazing! How did you guess?

Prince Alexander : I suppose it was intuition.

Jollo : Hmmm... I'll have to wait for the right moment, mind you, but I should be able to get close enough to swap this for the real thing and none shall be the wiser! Now you shall see Jollo's skill!

Prince Alexander : I'm sure your hands are mightier than my sword, my clever friend.

Jollo : Hee, hee, hee! Go ahead and do as you've planned, and let me worry about swapping the lamp. If I accomplish the trickery, I'll manage to get the lamp to you somehow, younever fear!

Prince Alexander : I have faith, Jollo. You are a true friend.

Jollo : Aw, shucks! I would do anything for the princess.

[Jollo walks out of his room opens and closes the door behind him]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the dagger icon on Cassima]  Here, take this dagger. It's not much, but it might come in handy.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : [Cassima takes the dagger from Alexander]  Why it's perfect! This is just the sort of thing I've been looking for! Thank you, Alexander. I'll keep it close and use it if I must.

  • Narrator : Alexander peers through the chink in the wall, trying to locate the source of the crying sounds. Alexander's palms begin to sweat and his heart to race. It's Cassima! He's found her!

[Through the hole in the wall the player can see Princess Cassima sitting on her bed]

Prince Alexander : Psst! Princess Cassima!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : What? Who's there?

Prince Alexander : It is I, Alexander! I'm here behind this wall!

Narrator : My how suave that sounds!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : [Princess Cassima stands up and walks over to the hole in the wall where Alexander is]  Alexander? It really is you! Oh I knew you were close by, but how did you get inside the castle walls?

Prince Alexander : It's a long story and not important now. You did get my ring?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh yes! It has brought me such comfort, Alexander, to know you were close by and had not forgotten... But you shouldn't be here! You're only endangering yourself!

Prince Alexander : I don't care about the danger! I would brave anything to learn...

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : What is it?

Prince Alexander : Alhazred. Do you, want to wed him Cassima?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh please, believe me when I say that I never agreed to marry that man! Even when my father trusted Abdul absolutely, I never liked him. But with Mother and Father gone, I'm afraid there's no stopping him.

Prince Alexander : If you do not wish to marry him, Cassima, you shall not. I promise you. Only come with me now, and we shall escape.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : How? I cannot fit through this wall. Besides, do you think I could leave my kingdom, my people, in Abdul's hands? But Abdul would tear the castle apart if I were to disappear from my room! You shall have to do what you can to delay his plans from your end.

Prince Alexander : I can't just leave you here!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Alexander, do not despair for me. I have been safe in this room for nearly six months now. Abdul can be in no hurry, whatever he plans. After all, I'm to be his bride, am I not? I have been planning too, you see. I believe I can escape if I only get a chance to lay my hands on a weapon. There might be an opportunity in the hustle of the wedding.

    Prince Alexander : But, I...

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Shhh. Just a moment more, and then you must go. Let us not waste time with words. Please, let me just look at you dear Alexander.

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the hand icon on the letter]  Alexander picks up the most recent letter and examines it. The letter is addressed to Abdul Alhazred from the Wizard Shadrack. It reads: Greetings to a brother of the Black Cloak. I was sorry to hear of great Mordack's death, though he was a bit of a ninny at chess. It seems the plans for that little kingdom of yours are coming along. I must congratulate you on your handling of the king and queen. Isolating the islands so that no protest could develop was another brilliant stroke. It looks like there's not much left to stand in your way. Do as I recommended with the girl. and you shall have your crown.

    Prince Alexander : That fiend!

  • Prince Alexander : [after the player spells out the word Alizebu]  Listen Door! I would have you open! ALI ZEBU!

Narrator : [the metal door opens]  It worked!

  • Narrator : Alexander looks through the chink in the wall.

[Through the hole in the wall the player can see Abdul Alhazred sitting at his desk writing a letter]

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Dear Shadrack. Salutations from the Society of the Black Cloak, etc, etc. My long preparations are about to come to fruition. In a matter of minutes, I will wed the lovely, ha ha hah, Cassima. Once I've established my power and my crown, I can stage another accident. The princess has proven infuriatingly stubborn, as you know. She's becoming quite a dangerous little thorn in my side. In a way, it's a shame I have to kill her, she is lovely and would be amusing to keep around, but I can't risk her talking treason to one of the guards. So far, I've managed to keep her locked away, but I can't continue that forever. Well, on to it now. I'd send her to you but, as you know, I had no luck in doing so with Mordack. I close in triumph, King Abdul Alhazred. I think it's about time to see if Shamir has taken care of the wench as I asked. It's almost time for the wedding.

[Abdul stands up and walks out the room, opens and closes the door]

Narrator : The vizier's words fill Alexander with blazing anger and fear for Cassima's life.

Prince Alexander : That blackguard! That murderous swine! He'll not have his way if I have anything to say about it!

  • Narrator : On the table is a coat of arms with the head of a beast on the crest.

Prince Alexander : Hmmm. Beast said that his coat of arms was stolen by the Druids. This must be it.

  • Narrator : On the table is a fleece made of gold.

Prince Alexander : That fleece must belong to the Winged Ones. And they thought the Isle of Wonder had taken it!

  • Narrator : On the table is a miniature oak tree. It looks very old.

Prince Alexander : Hmmm. That must be the sacred miniature oak that the Druid's thought the Winged Ones stole!

  • Narrator : On the table is a strange looking stone that's giving off an odd, high pitched noise.

Prince Alexander : That must be the Isle of Wonder's singing stone. Didn't the queens think that the Beast had stolen it?

Narrator : As Alexander looks at the objects on the table, he realizes the depth of the vizier's cunning. It must have been the vizier or an accomplice who stole that one thing most precious to each island, and then leaked rumors that one of the other islands was responsible!

Prince Alexander : What did the vizier have to gain by causing the islands to hate one another?

  • Narrator : [after showing the seagulls flying over sea and Alexanders sailing ship with Alexander and his sailors on board]  Three long months, Prince Alexander sailed the known seas and beyond.

Prince Alexander : Land Ho! Land Ho! Land Ho!

[after seeing Land of the Green Isles through his telescope and it shows Alexander with his sailor men. The ship sails into the cloudy sunset when all of a sudden, a Hurricane storm comes up at night]

Narrator : As the ship nears the shore, day turns to night, and the sea turns violent.

[the tidal waves of the sea causes the ship to smash into the coral reefs and the ship sinks. Then the title screen of King's Quest VI appears following the opening credits]

  • Narrator : Alexander looks through the chinks in the wall, anxious to see what the commotion was about.

[Then it shows Cassimas room empty]

Narrator : Cassima is gone! Where could they have taken her? How could he have let them take her?

Prince Alexander : A fine rescuer I'm turning out to be!

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the talk icon on Cassimas door]  Hello. Is there someone in there?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Who? Who's there?

Prince Alexander : Cassima! Is that you? It's Alexander!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Alexander! Is it really you? When Sing Sing brought me your ring! I could scarcely believe it! How did you get inside the castle?

Prince Alexander : Never mind that now princess. It isn't important. What can I do to help you? Do you want me to get you out of there? There's a padlock on the door but I think...

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : No please! Don't even think about that. There are guards everywhere and the vizier would have you killed if he found you. You shouldn't even risk being outside my door. Please go now Alexander!

Prince Alexander : But what about you? I can't just leave you locked up like this!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : The only way out for me is to stop the vizier. See what you can do out there. In the meantime, I should be safe enough. He hasn't harmed me yet. Besides, if I could get my hands on something with which to defend myself. I'm pretty sure I'll get a chance to use it. The vizier feels safe around me. No one else can get that close.

Prince Alexander : You're so brave princess. But it's too dangerous!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Have you forgotten where we met? What is Abdul compared to Mordack. I'll be fine, now go!

    Narrator : Alexander Hesitates.

Prince Alexander : I'll do as you say. I will find some way to help you Cassima! I swear it!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I believe you Alexander, please be careful.

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the dagger icon on Cassimas door, Alexander will slide the dagger under the door]  Cassima, take this small dagger. It's not much, but perhaps it will prove useful to you.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh thank you Alexander. I'm sure it will help.

  • Prince Alexander : Hold villain! You shall not marry the princess!

[Alexander and Saladin walks over to Abdul and the fake Cassima]

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Prince Alexander, here? This is an outrage! How dare you to allow this traitor to get past you Saladin! You stupid mutt! Can't you even keep the castle free of assassins during your own princess's wedding? Kill him! Kill him now!

Captain Saladin : Grr. Lord Alhazred... With all due respect, you are not quite king yet. And this is a wedding ceremony, not an execution.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : What? How dare you contradict me, you flea-bitten mongrel? I gave a direct order. Obey me or feel my wrath!

Captain Saladin : Mi Lady, I apologize for my behavior, but I am yours to command in all things. I wanted merely to hear your own wishes from your own lips. Tell me what it is that you wish me to do with this young man, and I will obey.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : [the golden eyes reveals her to be the fake Cassima]  Why Captain, you heard my dear Abdul. If he wishes this atrocious young man's death, then I want nothing more than to see him get his wish. Obey thy liege now and always.

Captain Saladin : As you wish princess.

Narrator : Just as Saladin prepares to run Alexander through with his sword, a shout is heard from the direction of the grand hall...

King Caliphim : HOLD! In the name of the true king!

Narrator : King Caliphim and Queen Allaria burst into the throne room looking alive and well, and full of wrath! Behind them, a line of supporters look prepared to battle, if necessary, for their beloved royal couple!

[Caliphim and Allaria both walks over to the fake Cassima]

Queen Allaria : Cassima! Darling, are you all right? Has he hurt you?

King Caliphim : Hands off of her you murderous goat!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : If I want your advice, I'll ask for it... MOTHER!

Queen Allaria : But... Caliphim... that's not Cassima! I'd know my daughter anywhere!

King Caliphim : What have you done with our daughter, you devil?

Narrator : The lovely image of Cassima suddenly bursts into smoke and is replaced by... the vizier's genie!

[the fake Cassima changes back to reveal Shamir Shamazel]

Captain Saladin : Why you... you conniving serpent!

King Caliphim : Get him guards! Saladin, your sword!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : DRAT IT ALL! You may have ruined my plans, but you won't get me or your precious Cassima! Get them, Shamir! I Command you!

[Abdul runs away in the back door]

King Caliphim : He's getting away! Stop him!

Captain Saladin : Yes, Sire! As soon as I deal with this genie!

[Shamir teleports from one spot to another]

Narrator : Shamir, the viziers genie, begins to throw balls of dazzling light at the guard dogs!

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the magic mirror icon on the fake Cassima]  Look into this mirror, my love. And show us your true heart.

Shamir Shamazel : [Alexander holds up the mirror to reveal Shamirs face]  That Mirror! NO!

Narrator : The lovely image of Cassima suddenly bursts into smoke and is replaced by... the vizier's genie!

[the fake Cassima changes back to reveal Shamir Shamazel]

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Shamir you fool!

Shamir Shamazel : It's not my fault master! The illusion was broken!

Captain Saladin : Treason! What have you done with the princess?

Narrator : Enraged! Saladin and the other guard dogs begin advancing on the vizier.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : You worthless genie! DO SOMETHING!

Narrator : Shamir, the viziers genie, begins to throw balls of dazzling light at the guard dogs!

  • Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Alexander! Be careful, Alhazred has a sword!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Shut up wench! SHAMIR SHAMAZEL! Get in here!

[Shamir Shamazel teleport's himself in the tower room]

Shamir Shamazel : Here I am, Master!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : It's about time, you bumbling fool! How could you let him follow me?

Shamir Shamazel : Well, there were the guard dogs, Master, and then...

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : NEVER MIND! Just kill him, kill him now!

Shamir Shamazel : Sigh. As you wish Master. Razzle dazzle, snap and snazzle!

[If the player gave Jollo the correct replica of the blue bottle to Jollo earlier, Jollo will quickly run upstairs up to Alexander]

Jollo : Alexander, I did it! I swapped the lamps! Here quick, take it!

[Alexander takes the Genies lamp from Jollo]

Prince Alexander : Bless you Jollo! I knew you could do it! Now get clear, friend!

Jollo : No arguments there, my lord. Good luck!

    [Jollo runs back downstairs]

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the talk icon on the door]  Hello! Anybody in there?

Narrator : A voice from behind the door responds.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Go away! I said I didn't want to be disturbed! Stupid dogs!

  • Prince Alexander : [If the player clicks the peppermint leaf icon on Shamir]  Look what I have here my friend. Peppermint! Nice fresh peppermint!

Shamir Shamazel : Razzle err... Dazzle mmm.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Forget the stupid peppermint! Don't you dare even think about it!

[Shamir teleports over to Alexander and takes the peppermint leaf]

    Shamir Shamazel : mmm. Mint!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : OH NO NOT NOW!

Shamir Shamazel : Hee hee, hic.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Do something! Shamir Shamazel! Kill him!

Shamir Shamazel : Send a small... I mean a ball of... hic. Light to frazzle!

[Shamir casts a ball of light and it bounces all over the walls]

Narrator : Dazzle ball goes wild!

Shamir Shamazel : Huh! Hic... Oh!

[the ball of light hits Shamir and causes him to disappear and kills him]

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : You killed my genie! You idiot! Don't you know how valuable he was! You fool! I'll kill you myself for that outrage!

    [Abdul draws his sword]

Prince Alexander : So shall it be Alhazred, I'm ready.

  • Vizier Abdul Alhazred : [If the player clicks the sword icon on Abdul]  SO! The mouse would bite?

Prince Alexander : This mouse shall bite, as you shall soon see, or should I say, soon feel?

[Alexander and Abdul swing swords at each other]

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Hah! You can barely lift that sword, my prince! Better to lay it down now. I promise to dispatch you with little pain.

Prince Alexander : A tempting offer, but I think I'll wait and see what this sword can do.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Suit yourself.

[They both continue to clash swords, Abdul punches Alexanders face and Alexander punches Abduls face and they both continue to fight with swords. If Alexander gave Cassima the dagger earlier, Cassima will free herself with the dagger and stands up, she sneaks behind Abdul]

Narrator : Alexander's arms start to tremble under the effort of wielding the huge sword. His muscles are nearing exhaustion.

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Hah! And so it ends!

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Not if I can help it, you murderer!

[Cassima stabs Abdul in the shoulder with her dagger]

Narrator : Cassima thrusts the small dagger into Alhazred's shoulder with all her might!

Vizier Abdul Alhazred : Yyeeiii! You! You dare raise a finger to me? You will regret that princess!

    [Cassima runs away]

  • Prince Alexander : [after clicking the sword icon on Abdul, Alexander knocks Abdul unconscious with the sword, drops it, and walks over to Cassima]  Cassima! Are you all right?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I'm fine, Alexander. I was just so afraid for you!

Prince Alexander : There's no need to fear anymore, princess.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Yes. I know. How can I ever repay you? For myself, for my kingdom...

Prince Alexander : It was not in me to let harm come to you. Can you find it in you, princess, to give me more than your gratitude?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Alexander! What are you saying?

Prince Alexander : I love you Cassima. Would you ever consider... do you think you could... marry me?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Could you ever have doubted it, my prince?

[Alexander and Cassima both kisses and hugs each other. Then the 2 guard dogs appear]

    Mite : Growl! Ahem!

[Alexander and Cassima finish kiss and they both stand up]

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh! Guards!

Mite : Princess Cassima, are you well?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I'm quite well, thank you. Please take Abdul and put him in the dungeon. See to it that he gets a doctor.

    Mite : Yes Majesty.

[Abdul wakes up and stands up, the guard dogs arrest Abdul and leads him downstairs with the guard dog pointing his sword at Abdul]

  • Narrator : [the long path ending with the Genie captured alive. A week later the wedding ceremony takes place with Alexanders parents and sister, Cassimas parents, Jollo, Shamir, and the rest of the Isle kingdom citizens. the song Here Comes the Bride plays]  One week later... Cassima and Alexander ask Captain Saladin to perform their wedding ceremony. Saladin is honored to do so.

Captain Saladin : On this historical day of great joy in the Land of the Green Isles, we witness the union of Cassima, beloved princess of this realm, and Alexander, prince of Daventry! Do you, Prince Alexander of Daventry, take Princess Cassima to be your wife, to love and to cherish for as long as you both shall live?

    Prince Alexander : I do.

Captain Saladin : And do you, Princess Cassima of the Land of the Green Isles, take Prince Alexander to be your husband, to love and to cherish, for as long as you both shall live?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I do.

Captain Saladin : Do you have a ring?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I have Alexander's royal insignia ring.

Captain Saladin : Very good. Please place the ring on Cassima's finger.

[Alexander puts his royal ring on Cassimas finger]

Captain Saladin : Who gives this bride to be wed?

King Caliphim : Her mother and I willingly give our daughter's hand in wedlock.

Captain Saladin : Who will speak for the groom?

King Graham : I will. Alexander's mother and I recognize his marriage to Princess Cassima with glad hearts and sanction this union.

Captain Saladin : Then, Alexander and Cassima, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.

[Alexander and Cassima both kiss each other]

Town Citizens : Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

King Caliphim : Congratulations, my children! I have an important question for you both, please hear me!

    Prince Alexander : Yes, Sire?

King Caliphim : Alexander, I welcome you into our family with open arms! I placed trust in Alhazred because I so badly wanted a son and a husband for my beloved daughter. I was wrong. But you are true and good, Alexander, you have proven yourself to all my people.

Prince Alexander : Thank you Sire.

King Caliphim : Allaria and I have been through much. Even though we have returned to our kingdom, I do not think we are able to reign again. Will you two consider the Crown? I know as king and queen you can heal this small kingdom from all the damage that Alhazred has inflicted upon it.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh Father!

Prince Alexander : Why, I'm honored... What do you think Cassima?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I love my homeland, Alexander. I would be happy to stay and to serve it all my days.

Prince Alexander : Father? I believe I am needed here. Would you be very disappointed if...

King Graham : Son, you must follow your destiny. I do believe the Land of the Green Isles needs you. You'll be a magnificent king, though dearly missed in Daventry.

Prince Alexander : Then, I accept.

Queen Valanice : Oh my boy! What a man you've become, and how I will miss you!

Prince Alexander : Don't worry Mother. With Shamir's powers we'll be able to visit often! I'm not about to forget my family.

Princess Rosella : Hmmm. Congratulations, Alexander! I'm so proud of you!

Prince Alexander : Thank you, dear sister.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh, Alexander, I'm so glad! Between the return of my beloved parents and our new reign, you've made me so happy!

Prince Alexander : I'm glad I could make up for some of your suffering, my beautiful wife.

King Graham : Congratulations, King Alexander! When we return home to Daventry, your crew will be glad to hear that their battle at sea was worthwhile in bringing forth a new monarch!

Queen Valanice : We were so worried when your men arrived home without you, son! I'm so thankful that you are safe and happy!

Prince Alexander : And I am as grateful that my crew did not pay for my driven heart!

Captain Saladin : You have only brought us all good fortune, Sire! With Shamir saved, and his power used for good, reuniting the islands will be far easier. He has already repaired the ferry. Your road will be easier now that the islands are no longer feuding. Already the wounds are starting to heal.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Yes, my love, discovering the island's stolen treasures has done more to bring peace to this land than anything else. It is now clear that Alhazred had Shamir steal each of the island's most valued treasures, then blamed the thefts on others to cause the island to hate each other.

Captain Saladin : Now, let us celebrate our good fortune! The evil that has plagued this land is done, and a new reign begins! Long live King Alexander and Queen Cassima!

[Shamir teleports and throws confetti in the air, Jollo dances]

Town Citizens : Long live King Alexander! Long live Queen Cassima! Long live the Land of the Green Isles! Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

[the game ends and ending credits play]

  • Narrator : [the short path ending with Shamir dead, and only Jollo is at the wedding]  One week later...

Jollo : That would be me! In the name of King Caliphim beloved friend, I give his daughter Cassima in wedlock.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Thank you Jollo.

Captain Saladin : Since the groom has no family present. I will speak on his behalf. Alexander, your union with this woman is sanctioned and recognized in the eyes of the community.

Prince Alexander : Thank you Saladin.

Captain Saladin : Then Alexander and Cassima, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.

[Alexander and Cassima both kiss each other]

Town Citizens : Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

Captain Saladin : Excuse my interrupting your joy, but I have an important question for the new bride and groom.

Prince Alexander : What is it Saladin?

Captain Saladin : Alexander, Alhazred hurt this little kingdom nearly to the point of destroying all that we stand for. But you are true and good and have proven yourself to all the people.

Prince Alexander : Thank you captain.

Captain Saladin : King Caliphim and Queen Allaria are gone and can never be restored. Alhazred has thankfully been banished. But we are leaderless. I believe you two can heal this small kingdom. From all the damage that Alhazred has inflicted upon it. Will you two Alexander and Cassima consider becoming the ruling King and Queen?

Prince Alexander : Why, I'm honored. What do you think Cassima?

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : I love my homeland Alexander. I would be happy to stay and serve at all my days.

Prince Alexander : I wish my father were here so that I could ask his advice. I will miss him and my mother and sister and Daventry. But I love you Cassima, and I do feel at home here. Somehow this land and I seem to suit each other here. I don't know what kind of King I'll make, but, I accept.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Oh Alexander! I'm so happy! If only my parents could've been alive to see this day, my joy would be complete.

Prince Alexander : I'm sorry I could not spare you that grief beloved.

Prince Alexander : King Alexander, there is a long road ahead. The ferry must be repaired before we can reunite the islands. Unfortunately the islands are still feuding, it will take some time and great diplomacy to convince them to reunite and stop fighting each other.

Princess Cassima, Additional Voices : Yes Alexander. We will have to try to discover how Alhazred managed to make them hate each another, so that we can undo what he has done.

Captain Saladin : Now, let us celebrate our good fortune! The evil that has plagued this land is done, and a new reign begins! Long live King Alexander and Queen Cassima!

Town Citizens : Long live King Alexander! Long live Queen Cassima! Long live the Land of the Green Isles! Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

[Jollo claps his hands, The game ends and ending credits play]

  • Prince Alexander : Why don't you let me see if I can help?

Sleepy Oyster : No way! No one's looking in my mouth! I hate dentists!

  • Prince Alexander : Hello friend. Aren't you an odd looking fellow?

Dangling Participle : Am not! Odd looking you are!

Prince Alexander : Oh! I'm sorry. I didn't realize you could speak.

Dangling Participle : Speak not! Funny is! Speech I am and nothing but!

  • Narrator : Considering the poor condition of the shore. It looks like the easiest way to get into the water is to jump off the pier. The powerful currents grab Alexander. Struggle as he might, He feels himself being pulled out to sea.

[Alexander dives in the sea and gets swept away from shore out to sea]

Shamir Shamazel : [Shamir as the little boy]  Ha ha ha! Not a very good swimmer are you?

Prince Alexander : Gulp! Gasp! Help me!

Shamir Shamazel : Sorry, I think not! Ha ha ha!

Narrator : As his head submerges for the third time, Alexander finds himself pondering the wisdom of going out on a limb for a stranger.

[Alexander drowns at sea and dies]

  • Lady Celeste : [Fake Lady Celeste with gold eyes walks in the room]  Ah! You are human only and not the monster himself. I heard you coming and thought you were the beast. Did my father sent you here to save me?

Prince Alexander : Why... Yes he did but... How did you...

Lady Celeste : Hush! There is no time. I've think I've discovered the Minotaurs secret exit from the catacombs, follow me and we'll both be saved.

[Then the fake Lady Celeste walks out of the room]

  • Prince Alexander : That's odd! Where did she, GO!

[Alexander falls into a trap door pit and dies]

  • Narrator : With a sudden lurch, the ceiling completes it's descent.

[the ceiling comes crashing down on Alexander and crushes him to death]

    Prince Alexander : Yikes!

Narrator : And presses Alexander into the floor like a bug under a heel.

    [Alexander dies]

  • Narrator : [If the player clicks the skull icon on the wheel gears]  Desperate to stop the crushing ceiling, Alexander throws a skull into the grinding gears. The skull is caught between two cogs. The gears shriek and shutter. The skull begins to bulge!

    Prince Alexander : Uh oh!

[the skull head crumples and the gears move]

Narrator : With a sudden lurch, the ceiling completes it's descent.

[the ceiling comes crashing down on Alexander and crushes him to death]

    Prince Alexander : Yikes!

Narrator : And presses Alexander into the floor like a bug under a heel. That skull wasn't strong enough to endure the pressure and neither was Alexanders.

    [Alexander dies]

  • Narrator : [after Alexander waits too long with the beasts ring, his time runs out]  Alexander feels a strange sensation come over him. His skin begins to itch. His head throbs.

Prince Alexander : Ugh! ROAR! Wee! Wee! Wee! Wee!

[Alexander transforms into an undressed four legged warthog beast wearing only the yellow scarf]

Narrator : [a game over message appears with Alexander transformed into a warthog beast wearing the yellow scarf]  Was that the beast you could do?

  • Prince Alexander : Who are you poor undead creatures?

Undead Ghoul : Rarr! Rarr! Rah! Rarr!

Prince Alexander : I see. How interesting.

  • Narrator : [Alexander walks down the stairs and gets caught by Captain Saladin and his two guard dogs]  Uh oh! So this is where they took the Mechanical Nightingale.

Captain Saladin : An intruder! Guards get that man!

[Bay runs up to Alexander and leads him down to Saladin]

Captain Saladin : You must be the dangerous foreigner the Vizier has asked me to look for? How did you get past my guards at the gate? And why do you want to harm the Princess?

Prince Alexander : I don't mean to harm the Princess! I only...

Narrator : Never mind! I'll interrogate you later after the wedding! For now put him in the dungeon guards. The Vizier will be pleased to hear that he's under lock and key.

[Alexander gets taken to the dungeon]

  • Narrator : [Alexander walks down the stairs and gets caught by Captain Saladin and his two guard dogs]  Uh oh! So this is where they took the Mechanical Nightingale.

Captain Saladin : Look! On the stairs! It's Prince Alexander of Daventry! Guards get that man!

[Bay runs up to Alexander and leads him down to Saladin]

Captain Saladin : You were told to stay away from the castle and leave the islands! Why did you break into the castle? And how did you get past my guard dogs at the gate?

Prince Alexander : Well I... I was worried about Cassima and...

Captain Saladin : Bah! Never mind! Your presence here has been forbidden. I'm afraid I'm going to have to have you thrown in the dungeon. I'll figure out how you got in later. Guards!

[Alexander gets taken to the dungeon]

  • Growlf : [after Alexander gets thrown in the dungeon]  You'll stay in here until we find out what the Vizier wants to do with you!

Narrator : The guard dogs leave Alexander to his fate. Locking the door noisily behind them. The sound of running footsteps echos outside Alexanders cell.

[the Dungeon jail door closes and gets locked]

Growlf : What are you doing down here Shrew? We already got him locked up! Go back to your post upstairs!

Shrew : Pant. The Vizier... Wanted to know what all the... commotion was all about. Pant. And I told him about the intruder... He told me to post extra guards on this one...

Growlf : Extra guards huh! So be it!

[the Wedding music plays and Alexander grabs at the door cell bars and struggles in vain to escape]

Narrator : Just as Alexander realizes that he has no possible means of escape, he hears the sound of wedding music playing somewhere in the castle.

Prince Alexander : Confound this dungeon! I'll never be able to stop the wedding now!

Narrator : [the game over message appears with a picture of Alexander locked behind bars]  Tis a noble thing to have a means of escape, and tis a far, far better thing to never get caught at all!

  • Narrator : Alexander opens the bargain book and reads a paragraph at random.

Yawn!

Narrator : Whew. What an incredibly boring book. No wonder the bookshop owner wanted to get rid of it so badly.
