Do not watch this movie

Warning: Spoilers
Even as a child I knew this film was horrible. The music is terrible, grating, and still somehow manages to bore me.

Every. Sing. Character. Disturbs. Me. Peter is a gross looking, aggressive character. Tiger Lily looks like starved. Captain Hook would give any child nightmares with his big eyes. Even Smee, one of the better models, looks like the wrong end of a who from who like.

The writing and dialogue is worse than atrocious. The jokes are awful, the way Peter speaks is like he's 5 seconds from murdering Tink, and Wendy speaks like a 50 year old.

This film is nothing short of disgraceful to the fun, energetic world of Peter Pan. The only thing JM Barrie would like about this film is the racism thrown toward the Native Americans (sad but true).

The Most Charming Childhood Film
tequila10126 September 2012
The 1988 Burbank Australian version of Peter Pan is definitely a joy to watch as it is a simple film which doesn't go into grave detail and only gives out the silly fun which is excellent. Most children's films today seem to complicate facts between non-fiction way too much. This film however, now being 24 years old is not a complex film with a famously known plot. I think this is possibly one of the best adaptations of Peter Pan for many reasons.

I believe that the voices to the character types are quite believable and they are a joy to listen to throughout the film. The music is very magical, mysterious, playful, bouncy and oddly fantasy like. I found this element to bring real qualities to the film, making it a strong element. I believe the casting for certain characters was excellent and many of the scenes were designed and presented well.

I think the most strongest parts of the film was the representation of Captian Hook. In the Disney film or early to late 90's films, he was seen to been wicked and despicable. In this, he is totally different which I love. His voice contrasts between deep and light, and he uses a different style when he screams or gasps or even laughs. I don't know who voiced him but the actor brang strong qualities to Captian Hook, I had never seen before. And thought that this was the best adaptation of Captian Hook. I mainly liked the scenes because of his humorously funny dialogue and moments.

Overall, The Australian Burbank film of Peter Pan is best. I believe anyone (any age) who hasn't seen it yet, should. Verdict - 8.5/10

Ties with Wind in the Willows as my personal favourite of the Burbank Films Australia animations
TheLittleSongbird6 June 2012
A lot of Burbank Films Australia/Animated Studios animations were among my childhood favourites. Peter Pan is no exception, in fact it is my personal of their animations along with Wind in the Willows(also from 1988). Is it my favourite version? No, for me that's the TV series Peter Pan and the Pirates, but this is a lovely, nostalgic version that does deserve to stand on its own. It is a perfect introduction to children who have not seen any other version or perhaps even read the timeless but complex(in character that is, especially in the case of Captain Hook) JM Barrie classic. Burbank's Peter Pan also succeeds in being fun and creative in its own way, with smooth and mostly colourful animation and very simple and soothing music that adds much to the fantasy atmosphere. The script has many charming(Wendy talking about the creatures inhabiting Neverland) and humorous(Hook's It was a dark and stormy night) moments, the message is a sweet and I think important one and the story has a certain innocence and sense of adventure to it. The characters are not as complex as the book, then again this is a 50 minute animated adaptation where things will be condensed and such, but they are still likable. Captain Hook is especially delightful with his facial expressions and clever dialogue. Two of the pirates may come across as stereotypical(in a negative way) to some(a friend I saw this with thought so which is why I brought it up), but I personally saw no real problem and wasn't offended. All in all, lovely and creative and for me one of Burbank's best. 9/10 Bethany Cox
