In early-1960s Chios, after the sudden death of a forest ranger, the local council asks the agronomist to appoint his successor. However, none of the available field guards accepts the position due to the bad reputation of the village. As a result, the community offers an additional financial incentive to the brave ranger who is willing to defy superstition, and four candidates summon up the courage to take the job. Before long, one of them fills the position, only to meet his fate. Now, once more, the village is in grave need of a field guard. Are the rest of the rangers, one for each season of the year, up to the task?
