An unremarkable butcher discovers that he has developed a strange but lucrative gift : he is capable of predicting the winners of the "tiercé" horse races. This results from the ingestion of "Maginex" pills. Originally these pills were designed as an aphrodisiac for bulls, in a far-off South American country...

Mediocre little comedy that seems to contain no character with an IQ over 80. The movie boasts a number of ideas and premises that could have delivered comedic fireworks, but sadly this is not the case. There are problems with regard to almost every aspect of film making : casting, acting, writing, etcetera etcetera. Note the disparity in acting styles : some actors are chewing scenery with all the savage conviction of wolverines, while other prefer a more restrained or classical approach. Yet other actors behave as though they've wandered in from the street on their way to the drycleaner's.

Buried inside "Les gros malins" there are valid points about the dehumanizing effect of addiction (whether to gambling, drugs or social status), but the movie is too lazy and too muddled to express these points in an interesting way.

Mainly to be watched when suffering from a bad cold - it can be nice to listen to a soothing stream of background noise, while your brain is trying to make sense of random messages about the location of your kneecaps or the temperature of your left kidney.
