Underworld's doctor

A French director who made some of his works in Belgium ,as this one;he mainly made detective films ,two of which deserving ,at a pinch,a look :"Deux Heures A Tuer" and "Un Soir Par Hasard".

"Le Toubib, Médecin Du gang" has two sides :the detective side, with gangsters and molls ,strip tease, stickups and shoot-outs, is devoid of any interest. The social side is more interesting and it should have been more developed : a doctor lost his license cause he had carried out an abortion-at the time ,it was not legal, and it used to take place anywhere- on a patient(pregnant by him) who had died ;so he has become a gang's doctor,(to someone who blames him,he simply says: "those men suffer too").He has a wife and a kid who is seriously ill.So far he has confined himself to nurse the wounded ,but his son 's treatment -in Switzerland - costs a lot of money .

What happened to this poor doctor could happen to anyone;he is essentially a victim of a ruthless society ;but the screenplay is so weak we do not even feel it.
