In one of the tightest races for best original song at the 2024 Oscars, Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste, Diane Warren, “I’m Just Ken” and surprise contender “Wahzhazhe” from Killers of the Flower Moon have emerged as the nominees for the prestigious songwriting prize.
That means a number of top-notch acts who made the shortlist, including Lenny Kravitz, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Halle Bailey and more, didn’t make the cut.
Eilish, who wrote “What Was I Made For?” with her brother-producer Finneas, is the leading nominee with the Barbie track. The duo won best original song at the 2022 Academy Awards for “No Time to Die” from the James Bond film of the same name. Shawn Levy's 2011 sci-fi film "Real Steel" takes place in the near future of 2020 when boxing and Mma have been banned, having been replaced by high-octane robot fights. Robot "trainers" buy up powerful, tank-like fighting bots, program their unique fighting moves prior to a match, and then pit them against each other in outsize, heavily sponsored arenas. The robot to remain un-smashed is declared the victor. Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer turned robot trainer who aims to purchase a high-profile robot called Noisy Boy and relive his glory days, but his attempts fail. Instead, he begins seeing potential in a battered, unassuming, out-of-date sparring robot named Atom salvaged from a dump. The robots in "Real Steel" aren't alive, but Levy does throw in a handful of shots implying that Atom may be ... feeling something.
"Real Steel" wasn't talked about a lot upon its release, and only opened to $27 million domestically.

It’s a hot summer day, the car AC is on turbo and the radio is blasting Miguel’s “Sure Thing.” My 8-year-old nephew is singing along happily — until I tell him the song is older than he is.
He’s extremely puzzled. But it’s true.
“Sure Thing” was released in 2010 and was named Billboard’s No. 1 R&b/hip-hop song of 2011. But TikTok resurrected the melodic track this year, and the platform thrust it to higher heights on the pop charts, as streaming platforms added it to current playlists and radio stations began replaying the song 13 years after its release.
Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” was released in 2019, but the addictive bop became a favorite on her ultra-popular Eras Tour, and now it’s in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Sia, thanks to TikTok, relaunched a platinum hit with “Unstoppable” late last year, though it was released...

Brandi Carlile has shared a cover of Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine,” which appears as a bonus cut on the “Best Weekend Ever Edition” of the Barbie soundtrack alongside star Ryan Gosling’s version of Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push.”
Carlile and her wife, Catherine Carlile, transform the rollicking original version of “Closer to Fine” into an acoustic ballad intertwining their beautiful vocals. Stream it below.
“Closer to Fine” appears on Indigo Girls’ self-titled second studio album, which marked their first major label release when it came out in 1989. Carlile previously performed the song with the folk duo during a June 2008 show in Tucson, Arizona — one of the many times she’s appeared on stage with the pioneering group. They also appeared on “Cannonball” from Carlile’s 2007 album, The Story. Last year, she presented Indigo Girls with the Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards.

Olivia Rodrigo is back with “Vampire,” the lead single off her sophomore album, the highly-anticipated “Guts.” The song has proven to be yet another hit for her, debuting at number-one on the Spotify charts and poised to do the same on the Billboard Hot 100. With such immediate success come questions about how the song will perform at the Grammys, especially coming after Rodrigo’s three wins at the 2022 event. While it might be too early to declare “Vampire” a general field competitor, there’s one category where the song might already have a path to victory: Best Pop Solo Performance. Rodrigo previously won that category for her smash single “Drivers License.” So how does that affect her chances at a nomination and perhaps a win?

Whether he’s on his way to work or just rolling through his hometown of London, England, James Corden always makes time for a good ole carpool karaoke.
Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” performances may be what he’s most know for, having had notable talents from Usher, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and more singing along in the passenger seat. “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host credits singer/songwriter George Michael as the inspiration behind the segment, as the late Wham! singer as his first “Carpool Karaoke” guest when they appeared in the skit back in 2011 for a British charity. The four panelists on “The Masked Singer” are having a hard time narrowing down the identity of the secret celebrity hiding inside the Medusa costume. The snake-haired villainess performed a pitch-perfect rendition of “Happier Than Ever” during the season premiere and left the judges “speechless.” She returned in Episode 2 with “Dancing Queen” and won the crown yet again. Medusa then performed “New York, New York” in Episode 3, but lost the vote to California Roll, however she was saved by the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell and won the comeback competition. She then advanced from the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, which means she will appear in the season finale. Do You know who she is? Read on for the judges’ “The Masked Singer” Medusa guesses.

On Monday’s episode of “The Voice,” the Season 23 playoffs began for Team Blake Shelton and Team Chance the Rapper. (Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Niall Horan will have their time in the spotlight next Monday.) Of the whopping six artists that were sent packing this week — three from each team — we asked our users to vote for who was unjustly eliminated, and their poll results overwhelmingly favor Kala Banham. She gained fans this year by jumping around from coach to coach, starting on Team Niall, then moving over to Team Kelly, before finally settling in at Team Chance.
Indeed, Kala nabbed 51% of fans’ votes, compared to 19% for their second-place choice, Jamar Langley of Team Chance. Interestingly enough, the only Team Blake member with double-digit support was Mary Kate Connor at 12%. Here are the complete poll results for who your fellow “The Voice” viewers think was most robbed this week:...

When The Playoffs of “The Voice” season 23 begin Monday, May 1, the artists of Team Chance the Rapper and Team Blake Shelton will take the stage for their chance to advance to the live shows. In this round, together with The Playoffs Part 2 on May 8 featuring Team Kelly Clarkson and Team Niall Horan, the coaches remain in control of the future of their team. What would “Frasier” be without Roz?
Sure, the satirically snobby Seattle-based “Cheers” spin-off was centered on radio psychologist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and his fraught relationships with his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and father Martin (John Mahoney) while self-sabotaging his hopeless romantic pursuits. Yet the crux of the series, its most necessary foil, came from Frasier’s radio producer Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) who did not hesitate to mock Frasier’s out-of-touch privilege and many misfires.
The announcement that Peri Gilpin is reprising her role as Roz for one episode in the “Frasier” Paramount+ revival ignites a surge of hope for a spinoff that’s otherwise without most of the original core cast.
The best parts of “Frasier” are its women, and that needs to be recognized in the present day, especially since it actually was at the time of its first airing. While current shows like “The Idol...

As The Voice started its Season 23 Battles Monday, it replaced the traditional Save with the Playoff Pass. What is it? Some rock stars write music for other artists. For example, Adele‘s “Rumour Has It” was co-written by a rock star. He wanted the track to resemble “dirty Louisiana porch stomping.”
Adele | Fred Duval / Contributor Adele, Taylor Swift, and the Jonas Brothers all worked with the main singer of OneRepublic
Ryan Tedder is a rock star from the band OneRepublic, which is famous for singles such as “All the Right Moves,” “Counting Stars,” and “Secrets.” He also wrote songs for other artists, including the Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker,” Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York,” and Ella Henderson’s “Ghost.”
During a 2012 interview with NPR, Tedder discussed some of his work with Adele. “Well, I did two songs with Adele: ‘Turning Tables’ and ‘Rumour Has It,'” he said. “And ‘Rumour Has It’ came about in Los Angeles. It was our second time to get together with me and Adele.”

Tonight, Adele won the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) Emmy for her CBS special, “One Night Only.” She is now just one little Tony award away from joining the illustrious Egot club.
Egot stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony and only 17 people can claim the status, including recent new member Jennifer Hudson, who won a Tony for producing the musical “A Strange Loop” in June. Raise your hand if you want Nicki Minaj and Adele to collaborate. Carpool Karaoke host James Corden definitely has his hand up! During the "Anaconda" rapper's April 6 appearance, she performed her infamous lyrics from Kanye West's star-studded 2010 hit "Monster." As Nicki, 39, kicked off her verse, the camera split into two side-by-side screens, with one of them showing Adele rapping along to Nicki's "Monster" verse on a 2016 episode of Carpool Karaoke. Nicki said she loved the "Someone Like You" singer's tribute and said it made her "so, so happy."...

After two long years, James Corden’s beloved “Carpool Karaoke” returned on Wednesday night, this time with Nicki Minaj in the passenger seat. And during her drive she made sure to show off her impressive Adele impersonation.
Minaj and James kicked off their carpool by singing “Anaconda” together. When they finished, Minaj cheekily pressed James on if he now understood the deeper meaning behind the lyrics — while simultaneously slipping into a thick British accent. When Corden pointed out that Minaj sounds like Adele, the rapper went into a full impression of the singer.
Of course, Adele did her own impression of Minaj back when she joined Corden for a “Carpool Karaoke” session in London in 2016, so Corden had to see what Minaj thought about it. And as it turns out, Minaj was a huge fan.
“I just loved it,” Minaj replied. “I mean she just made me so, so happy.
