Ginza 24 Chou

I'm so glad that i got the opportunity to watch this and some other Kawashima films, he is a truly fantastic filmmaker. Ginza 24 chou's plot is quite basic and even underwhelming at some degree, what makes it special for me is how incredibly beautiful the mise en scène is. Every second of the film is beautiful, the narration describing Ginza feels like deux ou trois choses que je sais d'elle 12 years before deux ou trois choses came out. And that's not all, the way Kawashima portraits the city is to this day almost unmatched. The citizens, the cars, the stores, the willow trees, they all feel fascinating under the influence of his filmmaking. Even though this is a relatively comercial studio film its energy and youth makes it feel and look like a nouvelle vague film even before the nouvelle vague even came to be. I hope someday i get to watch it again, i loved it.
