In the age of streaming platforms, the balance of power in television has changed. Studio bosses started spending many times more money on TV series, cutting the number of episodes so that viewers could binge on the entire season, and investing no less, if not more, in advertising and PR than they would for a major motion picture.
Competition has increased, with popular shows replacing each other every month, sometimes even every week.
20 years ago everything was different – the competition was not so fierce, but it was also more difficult to attract an audience. Channel management had to keep viewers glued to their screens for 20-30 episodes to keep ratings from dropping. Some projects failed and were quickly canceled, while others stayed on for nine full seasons, like 24.

In the world of boxing and video games, Anthony Joshua is a household name. So much so that multiple games have taken inspiration from this charismatic fighter and modeled their own version of a playable character across several platforms.
If Anthony Joshua’s recent knockout (going against Francis Ngannou) is any evidence of how incredible his ‘movesets‘ can be, these games are a testimony to the fighter’s outstanding legacy. Over the years, here are some cool examples of how video games have paid homage to Anthony’s boxing career.
UFC: An Obvious Choice The fighter decides to fight in a fighting game and fans may have seen this one coming.
Over the years, UFC games have increasingly maintained an industry standard of how real-life fighters find their way into the ring, letting players experience the sport for themselves. Without, you know, hurting anyone around them in real life.

"Bones" and "Breaking Bad" represented opposing ends of the television spectrum when they aired simultaneously from 2008 to 2013 (a mere fraction of the former's 12-season run from 2005 to 2017). The consistently sizable viewership for "Bones" affirmed that for all the critical accolades showered on "Breaking Bad" and other Peak TV shows, network programming was still the undisputed champion when it came to ratings. Meanwhile, "Breaking Bad" was proof of the untapped potential of the medium when it came to unfurling a complex long-form narrative across several seasons of episodic storytelling.
Of course, those are matters for us nerds to fixate on. The stars of "Breaking Bad" were more than happy to take their share of network TV gigs in the years leading up to Vince Gilligan's watershed crime drama. For more than a decade before he started cooking meth with Walter White as Jesse Pinkman, Aaron Paul got by with one-off parts on "Beverly Hills, 90210,...

Anil Kapoor’s Fighting Spirit: On Four Decades of Film, the ‘Slumdog’ Effect, and One Heck of a Year
Anil Kapoor still gets meetings he can trace back to “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Chatting with IndieWire shortly after the premiere of Viacom18’s “Fighter,” the Indian actor is one of the rare global stars to enjoy “crossover success” — a buzzy term that, these days, seems to mean less crossing over and more crossing back-and-forth. Indian film stars, once compelled to journey West to Hollywood, now enjoy rich storytelling opportunities at home that also exist abroad. Between “Fighter,” “Animal,” a remake of “The Night Manager,” and daughter Rhea’s TIFF premiere, Kapoor’s last 12 months demonstrate the diversity of projects available for Indian actors today — though he still gets the most worldwide acknowledgement for “Slumdog.”
“I get really surprised sometimes at the kind of people who still know me, still remember me, and want to work with me. It’s still continuing,” Kapoor told IndieWire. “As a matter of fact, I insist...

Charlize Theron’s 2002 critically panned thriller, Trapped, finds new popularity on Netflix’s Top 10
Sometimes, movies that fail to make a splash when they’re initially released find a new audience later in life. It isn’t unheard of that a movie that flopped and exhibited a low critical response can gain a cult following or even newfound popularity. John Carpenter’s career is kind of filled with movies like this. The early 2000s had seen a slew of mid-budget thrillers in an era before mega-budget franchises took over cinemas. One of those films is a 2002 psychological thriller titled Trapped.
Trapped would seemingly get lost in a sea of movies like Along Came a Spider or Enough, as well as similar crime-thriller genre movies made popular by Ashley Judd with films like Double Jeopardy, High Crimes and Twisted. According to ScreenRant, the Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon film has found new popularity when it cracked Netflix’s Top 10 Movies along with new movies like The Equalizer 3,...

Plot: On the verge of bankruptcy, Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) enters his racing team in the 1957 Mille Miglia.
Review: Ferrari is the only movie to come out this year that can say it sports a screenplay credit by a writer who’s been dead for fourteen years. Indeed, director Michael Mann has been trying to get his Ferrari movie off the ground for at least the last twenty years. He came close about eight years ago, with Christian Bale set to lead what would have been a big-budget version of the story. But, in the years since, the industry has changed, with Mann having to contend with a leaner budget to make his long-held passion project. Rather than compromise his vision, the potentially reduced scope helps make this one of his most intimate and involving films, harkening back to the days of The Insider.
Adam Driver is well-cast as Enzo Ferrari.

Last year “Succession” broke the record for the most acting nominations in a single year at the Emmys with 14, and it tied that tally in its final season in 2023. Like last year there are three women from the show in the Best Drama Guest Actress category, one of whom is a perennial favorite and a previous winner for the HBO satirical drama: Cherry Jones for her role as Nan Pierce.

When the Buffalo Bills square off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday via a game streamed on NBC’s Peacock, they will, for at least a period of time, do so without one of their most supportive fans: Madison Avenue.
Peacock plans to stream the game’s fourth quarter without commercials, essentially sacrificing 12 minutes, or 40% of a game’s standard ad load, that would normally have been used to spotlight promotional messages for beer, gadgets and cars, among other products. Viewers won’t see the act as taking away anything. That’s 12 minutes more of game play, analyst banter and football chatter — the stuff they came for in the first place.
“We are proud to work with our partners at the NFL to present this first-of-its kind experience,” said NBC Sports President Rick Cordella, in a statement. It’s true that no one has tested such a feat in a streaming NFL game before.
