James Franco has been named Leading Man of the Year. The "127 Hours" actor was one of a number of honorees recognized by the U.S. edition of GQ magazine for their achievements in the last 12 months, and will be one of five special cover stars to be featured on the publication's annual Men of the Year issue.
Also featured are rapper Drake who was named Breakout Star of the Year, actor Jeff Bridges who was given the coveted Icon of the Year accolade, comedian, presenter and actor Stephen Colbert who is the recipient of the Patriot of the Year prize, and Babe of the Year Scarlett Johansson.
As well as his acting career, James is also taking classes at five universities and in his accompanying interview in the magazine, the 35-year-old star spoke of his interest in "queer theory" after taking a class with Michael Warner, one of the founders of the school of thought.

Actress Ahna O'Relly laughed when a writer from The Advocate asked about her boyfriend of five years, James Franco.
So does her steady guy secretly want to be gay?
She replied, "If he does, it's news to me!" adding that Franco's interest in onscreen sexuality is less about homosexuality and more about boyhood, masculinity, and journeys of self-discovery
Sure he's played gay men and drug addicts in movies such as"'How!", "Blind Spot" and "Milk." But he tells The Advocate he's neither.
"Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and some people think I'm gay because I've played these gay roles. That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot. I'm not gay. But on another level, there's something in me that is able to play roles like that in a way that's convincing."

James Franco is doing some profiling, on himself. For the record, he's not gay - or bisexual, or high. "Everyone thinks I'm a stoner, and some people think I'm gay because I've played these gay roles," the actor, 32, tells the Advocate magazine in its October issue. "That's what people think, but it's not true. I don't smoke pot. I'm not gay. But on another level, there's something in me that is able to play roles like that in a way that's convincing." Franco is again playing a gay role onscreen, as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl, opening Sept. 24. Previously,...

Craig here with another Take Three.
Today: James Franco
Well hell, if I didn’t feature James Franco on Take Three now I never will. His largely supporting career is likely to spill over into full-time leading man status any day now. I’d bet my Spider-Man box-set that in seven months he’ll have either a Best Actor Oscar sat on his desk or at least a well-deserved nomination as consolation; his lead role in Danny Boyle’s freshly-completed true-life tale 127 Hours will surely see him shunted up a few rungs on both the awards and career ladder.
<-- Franco in the true story 127 Hours
Either way, this time next year Franco may very well be beating off his peers for bigger, meatier roles in even more substantial fare (The Rise of Franco may coincide with The Rise of the Apes), or he may continue alternating occasional leads with...
