Kingdom(?) of childhood

This is the kind of movies Luigi Comencini took to its absolute limits."Voltati Eugenio" ,released three years before ,displayed a situation very close to the one depicted in "Petit Joseph" .Jean-Michel Barjol is no match for the Italian director but his film is interesting, and his boy (lovely title:"little Joseph")endearing.Politics are present for father and grandparents (the boy takes refuge in their house when his parents have a quarrel ) whereas mum was born in a bourgeois family.Jean-Marc Thibault is the granddaddy-everybody-dreams-of and a good friend in a world of grown-ups the kid cannot understand. That the story takes place in a culturally privileged milieu weakens the film a bit though.
