This is the first Tom and Jerry cartoon short to be produced by Warner Bros. Animation, whom would take over the rights for its franchise from this point on. As William Hanna was still alive at the time this short was made, it was credited under the Hanna-Barbera brand name (as H-B was being folded into Warner Bros. Animation during this time), before Time Warner retired it out of respect for William Hanna (and the Cartoon Network Studios division would revive their own name for their own productions).
This short was originally meant to be for the original Cartoon Cartoons.
As the short premiered, many people say that this is the first of the modern 'Tom and Jerry' franchise. However, it does not. Many people say that this is a classic "Tom and Jerry" franchise in which people say they hated it that it was a classic franchise. Meanwhile, Joe Barbera apologized to classic staff members that this was not a modern "Tom and Jerry" franchise until Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring (2001), became a modern "Tom and Jerry" franchise.
The last Hanna-Barbera short ever.
The very last Tom and Jerry cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera before it closed down in 2001. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Animation took over the new Tom and Jerry content since this short.
