Before video games truly advanced, the arcade was where it was at. Much like Saturday morning cartoons, it’s one of those obsolete ideas from the past where you get why it’s gone, but damn if it didn’t represent some wonderful times. Arcade games seemed like the zenith of what a video game could look and feel like. Consoles were great and all, but you knew that if you were getting a port of an arcade classic for your 8-bit or 16-bit system, you weren’t getting the full package.
One of the genres that truly felt like the soul of the arcade experience was the beat ‘em up. The idea that you, a couple of friends, or even some complete strangers could join together at a cabinet and go on a trek to beat up as many enemy thugs as possible until you either ran out of quarters and couldn’t continue,...

Back in the ‘Golden Age’ of gaming – considered the late eighties and early nineties by many -, video games were a difficult endeavor. With no save slots, insta-death, entire campaign resets, and more, completing a game was a huge badge of honor back then, much more than it is these days anyway.
Nowadays it’s all too easy. You can save, glitch, cheat, and more to get the dopamine hit of an end credit screen, but back then, it was difficult. Real difficult. We’re not talking Elden Ring difficulty either. After a little research, we now have a concrete answer for what is the hardest game ever made.
Gaming is Subjective, But This Scoring System Isn’t
New research has revealed what everyone so desperately wanted to know – the hardest and most difficult video games of all time. The top 10 in fact. If you ever take a look at the scoring system on GameFAQs,...

Nintendo somewhat quietly published a Nintendo Direct presentation today that focused on some of its partners’ upcoming projects. While filled with interesting updates about various games, the highlight of the presentation involved an unexpected update to Nintendo Switch Online’s digital library.
As of today, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers of various tiers can play a collection of Rare-developed titles that include Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll, Rc Pro-am, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Killer Instinct, and Blast Corps. Gamers in Japan got Mother 3 in their version of that update, but that’s a story for another day.
While many of those games are notable in their own ways, the fact they were all developed by Rare is most certainly the most interesting thing about them in this particular instance. For those who don’t know, Rare and Nintendo once formed a partnership that led to the production of legendary games like Donkey Kong Country,...

Thanks to the massive success of the 1987 animated series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," toy companies and television networks were all looking for their own anthropomorphic crimefighting animal franchises in the late 1980s and early 1990s. And when they eventually found them, the results were wild. In the words of Guns N' Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle."
"Battletoads" was probably the most blatant ripoff. "Road Rovers" was another swing and a miss. "Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron" had a pretty awesome show, but the toy line didn't deliver as much as the cartoon. Then came "Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa" and "Street Sharks," which excelled in both areas. But when "Biker Mice From Mars" premiered in 1993, both the show and the toys stood head and shoulders above the rest (but always just below Tmnt). The little kid version of me went nuts for this show, as well as the action...

In some cases, a soundtrack can take a game from being good to great. That's not only the case with modern games either, as the days of yore were able to provide memorable tunes that continue to stick with gamers today. We're digging into the past to un-earth and re-experience five Snes musical masterpieces that stand out from the crowd.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
The enchanting soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country 2 was composed by David Wise. No stranger to simian-symphonies, David also created the music for DKC2's predecessor Donkey Kong Country, and went on to score a hat trick by composing for the third installment of the series (Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble).
The three games did battle to make it onto this list, copious bananas were thrown and many monkey tantrums were had. It is undoubtable that all three soundtracks have...
