Anecdotes:

At the beginning of the film, Malmberg (a Swede) becomes ill after having to drive on the right side of the road in Norway. Today both countries drive on the right. In 1967, Sweden switched to the right because making two versions of cars like Volvos and Saabs for domestic and foreign sales was inefficient. Also, there are many unguarded, unmarked border crossings points (unlike the crossing in the film); people would not realize which country they were in and sometimes ended up driving on the wrong side.

A slow storyline for a work of art about friendship

Some people might get bored. Yes it is slow. However, the slow pace fits the storyline perfectly. Kitchen Stories is a story about friendship between two old scandinavian man. One is from Sweden, a "scientist", the other is Norwegian.

A team of scientists from Sweden come to Norway to study single males in their kitchen. Each scientist is attribuated a single male. Their task is to sit in a tennis umpire chair in the corner of the kitchen, and report quitely every single move made by the individual being observed. They are told not to communicate with each other.

This movie is about friendship. The characters seem cold and uncommunicative at the beginning. But slowly, one enters their mind, share their every single emotion. And as the film goes on, we discover the meeting of two people, and the building of their friendship.

This movie is heartbreaking. The atmosphere of the fifties is helped with some nice piece of music. I personaly kept whistling an old jazzy swedish song for a few days after having seen that piece of art.

A must see, definitely.
