The movie is a cinematic version of Girish Karnad's play 'The Fire and the Rain', which Arjun Sajnani staged for a couple of years.
When the movie's promotion started Jackie Shroff said "The tag line of this film says it is an epic of sacrifice. I made the biggest sacrifice: I had to shave off my mustache for the role."
When the director approached Prabhudeva with the role, he just looked at the director and said, "So where's the dance?" Sajnani informed him "There's no dance. I want you to do this role because I think you're the only one who can do it." Prabhudeva was surprised, a bit apprehensive, but finally agreed.
Raveena Tandon wants to be remembered as a good actress and so she had lately started accepting roles which are not totally commercial ones. But last week, she got the shock of her life when she saw some explicit scenes in the TV promos of her film, Agnivarsha. The sequences so infuriated her that she decided to call director Arjun Sajnani. But what can be done to stop the publicity of a film which she calls one of her biggest attractions? 'I don't dissociate myself from the film. The film is aesthetically designed and very well shot but concentrating only on the 'dare bare' act would suggest it's an erotic thriller," she fumed. Also the scenes have become an issue of concern to her family who requested the producers to delete them. Agnivarsha tells the story of Vishaka and how she avenges her father-in-law Mohan Agashe, husband Jackie Shroff and brother-in-law Milind Soman when they attempt to scheme aagainst her. The films also stars Sonali Kulkarni and Prabhu Deva.
