Roger Daltrey, the 72-year-old energetic frontman of the iconic rock band the Who, clearly isn’t the type to forget his debts.
And one of those debts, admits Daltrey while kicked back in his hotel room during a recent visit to Los Angeles, is owed to teens.
“Without the support of teenagers,” he insists, “the Who would have been just another punk band.”
So five years ago, Daltrey and bandmate Pete Townsend created Teen Cancer America, a charity that builds teen-friendly environments – with everything from jukeboxes to pool tables – in hospitals for young people battling cancer.

The Who‘s Roger Daltrey, one of rock’s most legendary front men, sits on the sofa of his tidy L.A. hotel suite, quietly sipping a cup of coffee. His assistant pecks away on a computer keyboard in the next room as a masseur unfolds a portable massage table in the foyer.
Daltrey, who is in town to perform with Who bandmate Pete Townshend at this weekend’s much-publicized Desert Trip music festival in Indio, California, looks pleasantly startled when asked, “So when was the last time you trashed a hotel room?”

At 14, I talked my folks into letting me go to my first rock concert. The Who played ear-shatteringly loud in the shed at Tanglewood [Mass.] as Roger Daltrey stuttered through what became an insta-classic lyric for my generation: "Hope I die before I get old!" Fortunately, he didn't. Neither did I. On Oct. 9, 45 years later, that same lyric boomed across the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs as The Who performed at Desert Trip, the three-day fest condescendingly nicknamed "Oldchella" that featured legends including Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young and

I interviewed Pierce Brosnan in conjunction with his third outing as James Bond, in Michael Apted's The World Is Not Enough, in 1999. Brosnan was alternately charming, erudite, thoughtful and intense during our two hour chat. His native intelligence shone through it all, as did a sense of decency which many people seem to acquire after enduring and surviving hardship in their formative years.

The Who’s Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon, probably wanted to ask aspiring ‘band managers’ and ‘film directors’ Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp, “Who are you?” “Tell me who the F&#k are you?”
Back in the ’60’s,Christopher ‘Kit’ Sebastian Lambert and Christopher Thomas ‘Chris’ Stamp‘s intentions were to discover a rock and roll band and then make a film about them, as their entryway into the film industry.
Lambert and Stamp stumbled upon “High Numbers” in a pub, or The Who before their name changed to The Who. Their original intention was to make a film about them, and not to become the band’s managers, however, they wound up doing both.
1967-The Who’s European Tour- The Who really liked Lambert and Stamp as they were confident salesman, even though they faked it until they made it, as they admittedly didn’t know anything about managing a band, knew nothing about Rock and Roll, and had No connections. They were merely going through the motions, and only said that they were managers. Kit had courage and took risks, while Chris Stamp was Not afraid of authority.
Pete Townshend- a little about that time period. “We were from middle class, working class, post-wwii families. The older generation clashed with the younger, especially when and if you disobeyed authority. We didn’t think that time period of pop music would last more than a couple of years.”
James D. Cooper's "Lambert & Stamp" is now in theaters.

A haggard voice breaks the darkness of the screen.

Miley Cyrus — you’re completely comfortable with your own sexuality and you love to be provocative, but that doesn’t mean you’re a slut!
Miley Cyrus: Other Women Should Not Be Judging You
Being sexually comfortable doesn’t make any woman a slut. But you’ve been smack dab in the center of controversy ever since you started promoting your singles, ‘We Can’t Stop” and ’Wrecking Ball’, for your newly released album, Bangerz. And your VMAs singing while twerking and grinding performance sent critics into a fever pitch.
You’d think that no female signer has ever rocked a sexy outfit, and shook their booty before on stage.

The cast and creators of "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland" were on hand at ABC's TCA day to discuss the "Once Upon a Time" spinoff's trajectory and the addition of Jafar (Naveen Andrews) to the series' mythology.
So far, critics and Comic-Con attendees have only seen 19 minutes of footage from the show's pilot, which feature Alice (Sophie Lowe) in a mental institution with doctors interrogating her about her "delusions" of a visit to a place called Wonderland -- which is only seen in flashbacks -- and her lost love, a genie called Cyrus (Peter Gadiot).
The pilot presentation was enough to convince ABC execs to greenlight the fantastical series, but co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis promised that the full pilot will take fans into present-day Wonderland, which will give viewers "a sense of the world now with Alice’s return," as well as introducing them to "Wonderland's" version of Jafar.

At today’s TCA panel on ABC’s new drama series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the producers said the initial order of 13 episodes will “tell a complete story.” If the show returns, said executive producer Adam Horowitz, “we will come back with another adventure.” In describing the relationship of Wonderland to the series Once Upon a Time (which introduced some elements that are part of the new series), Horowitz said Wonderland “exists in a Once universe but stands on its own. The pilot hits the ground running, [new viewers] can come right in.” Ep Edward Kitsis called the new drama a “psychedelic romance.” The new show begins filming this week on the same set as Once, producers said. The cast of characters that Alice (Sophie Lowe) might meet in Wonderland naturally lends itself to guest stars doing voices. The producers confirmed that...

Pete Townshend of The Who has said that Lady GaGa is "fascinating". The guitarist told The Sun that the pop superstar is a "story" and "iconic figure". Townshend said: "The machinery of making music means more people can do it now. The technology has made it easier to make music without being profoundly gifted. "What Lady GaGa has done is created an iconic figure who is someone we can get inside. She's a story and it's fascinating to watch - she's like a space oddity." Asked about The Who's performance at the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony, singer Roger Daltrey said: "We were in the dressing room next door to the Spice Girls and listened to them warm up - and singing really well. "So all (more)...

Want to see a biopic about the manager of The Who, directed by Cary Elwes? As you wish. That’s exactly the project that the former Westley has chosen to be his first directorial project. He’s teaming up with producer Orian Williams (who notably produced the fantastic Ian Curtis biopic “Control,” and has projects based on the lives of Jeff Buckley ("Mystery White Boy") and Jack Kerouac ("Big Sur") on their way to the screen) to tell the story of Kit Lambert – the man who discovered The Who and made them one of the most famous rock bands of all time. Apparently both Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey have read the script, approve, and are on board to contribute biographical details and allow the use of their music in the film. The script has been penned by Pat Gilbert who used to edit the British music magazine Mojo, who...

One of the only technical flaws of tonight's 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief has been the control room's repeated inability to bleep any artists dropping a curse word here and there. Most of the uncensored curses were subtle -- some people missed them, others tweeted about them almost immediately. But the biggest, most in-your-face example of the night was when The Who's Roger Daltrey dropped a big ol' F bomb during the band's performance of "Who Are You."...

If asked "Who are you?," rocker Pete Townshend might reply, in part, "A neoconservative."
The Who guitarist revealed that he is "a bit of a neocon" during an interview with ABC News. Townshend and Roger Daltrey sat down with ABC to talk about their work for teens with cancer with the Who Cares campaign, and Townshend wasn't afraid to delve into the subject of politics.
“I try and stay away from American politics because I’m a bit of a neocon," Townshend, a British citizen, told ABC. "I’m not that popular with everybody.” Adding, "I like the idea of America as the world's police force. Then we don't have to do it. You guys sort it out."
A "neoconservative" is officially defined as "a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means," according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Onstage at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena on Saturday night, The Who's Roger Daltrey saluted Chris Stamp -- one of the two early managers that launched the group's success -- as a man "without whom we wouldn't be the band we were." Stamp -- who not only co-managed The Who with the late Kit Lambert but also co-founded the group's Track Records label and executive produced most of its albums and film projects starting in 1968, died from cancer on Saturday at the age of 70 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Daltrey went on to say that Stamp

The 2012 Olympics are now a month-old memory, but Wednesday night's (Sept. 12) "Conan" got in one final jab at NBC's coverage of the games. And it came from none other than the network's lead Olympics host, Bob Costas.
Conan O'Brien asked Costas to assess NBC's efforts in London, and Costas had this to say: "I thought we were doing well headed to the finish line." Then, he notes, came the much-derided decision to interrupt the closing ceremony, just before The Who was set to perform.
"NBC decides at that moment they should provide America with a sneak preview of 'Animal Practice,' and then come back an hour later ... and check in on The Who," Costas says. "... So here is the balance NBC has to consider: The Who, 'Animal Practice.' Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend -- monkey in a lab coat. I'm sure you'd be the first to attest, Conan,...

Bruno Tonioli thought he had turned into Roger Daltrey when he took LSD. The choreographer and 'Strictly Come Dancing' judge accidentally took the drug after his drink was spiked in a Munich nightclub in the 70s, and it made him think he was The Who singer. He told The Sun newspaper: ''Someone laced my drink with LSD and I ended up in a ski resort with no idea how I got there. ''It happened at a party in Munich. The room started to swirl, the colours from the lights became dazzling and psychedelic. My senses seemed to explode. ''I had no idea...

The Who's guitarist Pete Townshend found a great way to make sure people are talking about the band (and their new tour): reminisce about Mick Jagger's penis.
"What I remember of the size of Mick Jagger's penis," Townshend began in the middle of a press conference. "I remember it as being huge and extremely tasty."
Penis jokes aside, the press conference was held to discuss the band's new tour, which will bring them to the United States for the first time since 2008. The band will not use holograms to bring late members Keith Moon and John Entwistle back to digital life.
Townshend and lead singer Roger Daltrey also discussed their upcoming contribution to the festivities surrounding the Summer Olympics in London.
"We have recorded a piece of music that is a fabulous ending for the Olympics," Daltrey said. "[It] just shows the great music that has come out of this country.

Today in "Entitled Children of Famous People:" Paul McCartney's potato-y looking son James recently told the BBC that four of the Beatles' children were interested in forming "The Beatles — The Next Generation." My only question is, who's going to play Picard? James McLumpy (my, I'm feeling mean today) said that Sean Lennon, Dhani Harrison and Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey were apparently talking over the idea of forming a sort of sons-of-supergroup. "I'd be up for it," he said. "Sean seemed to be into it, Dhani seemed to be into it." Afp reports that James said Starkey (who is a successful musician already: not only is he quite the session drummer, but he's been doing an uncanny Keith Moon impression on the skins behind Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey for quite some time) is "[...]...

Paul McCartney has re-arranged his world tour to fit in a charity gig in London. The former Beatles star booked extra shows across Europe to keep his set on the continent so it would be easier and cheaper to take it to London's Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust event on March 29. The event's organiser, Roger Daltrey from The Who, is quoted by The Sun as saying: "Sir Paul has been brilliant. We almost got him last year but he couldn't make the date work. "He said, 'I'll be there for you next year, Rog' - and here he is. He did a few extra shows in Europe to make it work so no-one had to foot the bill of getting (more)...

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 1, Episode 17 of ABC's "Once Upon a Time," entitled "Hat Trick."
This week's "Once Upon a Time" took a trip down the rabbit hole into madness, and what a delicious ride it was. There's a certain poetic irony to the idea that the one man who knows the whole truth about Storybrooke is the one man who has been branded insane because of it; it calls to mind a very apt Tim Burton quote: "One person's craziness is another person's reality."
Sebastian Stan played our sympathetic Mad Hatter, known as Jefferson in both worlds, and I choose to believe that this name was picked wholly because of the association between Jefferson Airplane and their trippy song "White Rabbit," based on the Alice in Wonderland tales.
