This original is better than the 1991 follow up

because it faithfully followed the legends of Uighur people, and their folk hero Afanti.

In China, the story of Afanti was also in Cartoons and books, and for cartoons, each independent story is an episode, which was among one of the first cartoon series in China.

Afanti

I loved this film when I saw it some years ago on TV here in the UK. The film showed great historical and authenticity detail in its production. The main character AFanti was hilarious and the folkloric stories were excellently retold. The comedy was witty and appealing for all ages. In fact it was a great success with the youngsters who watched it. Though I watched it with subtitles it didn't lose anything in translation. Also it was a lovely window into the world of Uyghur Chinese communities. It was show here in the UK in the early 1990's and I did have a copy of it but seem to have lost it. I would love to get a copy - anyone know how to?
