Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has sparked backlash from the creative community after claiming that creating “content” costs “close to zero.”
“Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content,” Ek recently tweeted, drawing criticism for suggesting that creative works like music are merely “content.” Continuing, he wrote, “While much of what we see and hear quickly becomes obsolete, there are timeless ideas or even pieces of music that can remain relevant for decades or even centuries.”
From there, Ek mused about which ideas would have a “long shelf life” a la Stoicism. Ek would later clarify his point was “not to devalue the time, effort, or resources involved in creating meaningful works,” but to explore how “we can identify and ensure that the bold, exciting, world-changing ideas and pieces of art don’t get lost in the noise.” However, the damage was done.

“I found out something at the very last Kiss show that I did not know before the very last Kiss show. And it’s a major piece of miscommunication,” Sebastian told Eddie Trunk on the latter’s SiriusXM program [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “And I need to communicate with those guys because there’s been something that happened that is not accurate. I can’t tell you what it is, but the whole narrative of they don’t like me and I’m too crazy is complete bullshit. It’s not true.

Festivus. Anti-dentite. Bad-breaker-upper. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. From Seinfeld to Curb Your Enthusiasm, for 35 years, Larry David has helped to contribute dozens of phrases to the pop culture lexicon. And in the penultimate episode of the final season, Curb may have offered up his career piece de resistance with returning guest star Bruce Springsteen’s unexpectedly hilarious “floor fucker” comment.
Now, it appears the hit show’s lewd phrase has crossed into the real world — and into one of The Boss’ stadium shows.
Springsteen, who first appeared on the second episode in the HBO comedy’s 12th season, reemerged in the March 31 installment because he wanted to meet Larry David, who became a liberal hero after (unknowingly) standing up against a Georgia 2021 voting law that makes it illegal to provide food or water to voters in line at the polls. Christopher Nolan and his wife/producing partner, Emma Thomas, have receied their fair share of acclaim for 2023’s Oppenheimer; now, even the British monarchy is getting in on the action. On Thursday, it was announced that Nolan will receive knighthood, and Thomas will receive damehood, for their contributions to film.
The honor arrives the same month Nolan took home his first-ever Oscar, having won for Best Director with Oppenheimer. Beyond his win, the film took home six additional awards, including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, and more.
Both Nolan and Thomas were born in London, and met while attending University College London. After marrying in 1997, the duo have collaborated on many films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, The Dark Knight, Insomnia, Memento, and more.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two debuted in theaters earlier this month, receiving praise from critics and movie-goers alike. Now, joining the ranks of its fans, is none other than Steven Spielberg, who called the movie “one of the most brilliant science-fiction films [he’s] ever seen.”
The comments came in a conversation between Spielberg and Villeneuve at the DGA theater in Los Angeles, which has since been published as an episode of The Directors Guild of America’s podcast, The Director’s Cut. Speaking about the sequel — which follows-up 2021’s Dune — Spileberg commended Villeneuve’s eye for world-building.
“It’s an honor for me to sit here and talk to you,” Spielberg began. “There are filmmakers who are the builders of worlds. It’s not a long list and we know who a lot of them are. Starting with [Georges] Méliès and Disney and Kubrick, George Lucas.” Spielberg then went on to list a number of directors,...

Trent Reznor has shared his reflections on the 30th anniversary of Nine Inch Nails’ breakout album, The Downward Spiral, in a post on the band’s official website describing how the seminal project still impacts him.
“Spending too much time looking backwards feels dangerous to me, but this day on the calendar caught my attention,” Reznor wrote in the message. ” Has it really been that long, old friend? I just spent an hour listening to this time capsule of what 28 year old me had to say, and it still excites me and breaks my heart.”
The Nin mastermind concluded the note by encouraging fans to “be kind to yourselves,” adding that he hopes to “see you soon.”

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has taken the next big step in his political career by running for Parliament in the next UK general election.
After recently spending four years on the county council in Norwich, Rowntree will be running as a Labour candidate for the Conservative-held Mid Sussex seat in an attempt to turn it red for the first time.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to become Labour’s first Mid Sussex MP,” Rowntree said in a statement. “Residents have their best chance in a generation to make their vote count and return a Labour MP to parliament.”
He continued, “The Tories have run out of ideas, and the Lib Dems have run out of steam. I’m running for parliament to provide the energy and vision the area so desperately needs.”

Jodie Foster is one of the most-celebrated former-child stars of the modern era, so it’s no wonder that she spends quite a bit of time thinking about the experiences of young actors who are just beginning to hit the scene. Now, in a new interview, she’s shared some of her thoughts regarding the ascendant Generation Z, revealing that, though she admires their yearning for “authenticity,” she feels that they need to “learn how to relax” and can be “really annoying, especially in the workplace.”
The comments come in a new interview with The Guardian, throughout which Foster discusses her 2023 film, Nyad, and touches on the journey of aging as a woman in Hollywood. When the subject of younger actors is brought up, Foster is asked what her advice would be. She replied: “They need to learn how to relax, how to not think about it so much, how...

Corey Taylor has announced that he is canceling his upcoming North American solo tour, citing his “mental and physical health.”
The Slipknot singer was set to embark on a monthlong outing that would have kicked off February 3rd in Toronto. Instead, he will use the time off the road to focus on his well-being.
His full statement reads:
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming North American tour. For the past several months my mental and physical health have been breaking down, and I reached a place that was unhealthy for my family and I. I know this decision will come as a shock to some and may be regarded as unpopular by others – but after taking a hard look at where I am and where I was going, I need to pull myself back and be home with my family for the time being.

Everyone’s a critic — including Christopher Nolan’s very own Peloton instructor, apparently. At a ceremony for the New York Film Critics Circle, Nolan used his acceptance speech for the best director prize to comment on his appreciation for film criticism — and to share a hilarious anecdote.
Speaking on his “complex emotional relationship with critics and criticism,” Nolan highlighted the importance of film criticism as a profession in a world where seemingly everyone now has an opinion to share. The Oppenheimer director then cheekily brought up a moment in which a Peloton instructor canned one of his own films during a workout, apparently unaware that he was in the class. Nolan did not specify which film found its way onto the chopping block, but Paste Magazine movies editor Jacob Oller uncovered the clip in question: it’s of Jenn Sherman ripping Tenet.
“I was on my Peloton. I’m dying.

Britney Spears says a second volume of her memoir will be released in 2024.
Volume one of The Woman in Me was released last Tuesday. Already, Spears claims, it’s “the highest selling celebrity memoir in history,” and it currently sits at No. 1 on Amazon.
But, apparently, the 41-year-old singer still has more to say. “Humor is the cure to everything !!! Play on !!! Volume 2 will be released next year … get ready !!!” Spears wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday.
In his review of the book, Consequence features editor Wren Graves called The Woman in Me “a remarkable and haunting tale of generational trauma.”
Among the revelations in volume one, Spears said she felt “infantilized” during her 13-year-conservatorship. She also revealed that she had an abortion with her ex boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, and she accused the members of *Nsync — especially Timberlake — of “try[ing] too hard” to fit in with Black artists.

“I think the best breakup songs are celebratory. Thankfully, decades of dating the wrong people has prepared me to write the emo, palm-muted breakup song of my dreams,” explains Eva Hendricks. “I was in Australia when Dan had the idea for this video, so we had to create a fictional Bliss Bar where we could all be together for Speed Dating Night. I bought the entire clay aisle of our local craft store and had a lot of fun creating a miniature version of the set that we could all be green screened into. Dan is the world’s best director and editor and did an incredible job pulling everything together. Please contact Cb Worldwide if you believe you may be entitled to a new boyfriend.

Seattle’s Brad have released a new song and music video for “Hey Now What’s the Problem?” off their upcoming LP, In the Moment That You’re Born. The album will drop July 28th via Loosegroove Records.
The new tune features a straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll vibe, with distorted guitars from Stone Gossard (also of Pearl Jam fame), driving bass and drums from Keith Lowe and Regan Hagar, respectively, and fiery vocals from late singer Shawn Smith.
The song’s music video, directed by Hagar, features live footage from classic Brad performances with pop-culture imagery from movies, TV shows, and horror films.
“Hey Now What’s the Problem?” follows the album’s debut single, “In The Moment That You’re Born,” which was released earlier this year. That song was unveiled on the 30-year anniversary of Brad’s debut album, Shame, which arrived on April 27th, 1993 via Epic Records.

Off Del Rey’s latest album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, “Margaret” is a duet between the 37-year-old singer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, and was co-written and co-produced by both artists. When Del Rey joined Bleachers on stage last night, Antonoff donned an acoustic guitar and the two delivered an intimate, stripped-back rendition of the tune. Watch video of the performance below.
Curated by Shovels & Rope, the two-day lineup for High Water Festival 2023 also features Beck, Wilco, Angel Olsen, and more. Held at Riverfront Park in Charleston, North Carolina, the festival launched in 2016 and has expanded in recent years.

Sza has stalled at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 a few times with her Sos cut “Kill Bill,” so she’s now called in Doja Cat for a remix to hopefully put her over the top. Stream the new single below.
The track begins with Doja Cat’s rapped verse, in which she follows its theme by describing how she stalked her ex. The situation went south when Doja was spotted by her ex’s new girlfriend: “It happened in a flash when she charged at me/ Y’all criss-crossed, saw her fall to the floor/ Then you paused there in horror, but that shot wasn’t for her.”
The “Kill Bill” remix comes two years after Doja and Sza’s smash hit “Kiss Me More,” a track from the former’s third studio album, Planet Her. The collab won them a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, but...

There’s no character on television right now like vulgarian poet Dave Burd. The third season of “Dave” begins with the real-life rapper, also known as Lil Dicky, traveling the country in search of a soulmate. Will his Looking for Love tour also win him Emmy voters’ hearts?
If its sustained 84 average on Metacritic proves anything, the subversive Fxx comedy is “basking in the confidence earned from its exceptional prior entry but…not resting on its laurels”. That being said, the pool of surveyed critics remains small and male, something that, judging by the second half of Season 3’s two-episode premiere, “Harrison Ave,” seems to be on the creative team’s radar.
See Emmy odds: Jeremy Allen White (‘The Bear’) is nipping at Jason Sudeikis’s heels for Best Comedy Actor
While we shouldn’t infer how he actually feels about the matter based on his fictionalized persona, it’s fair to say Burd,...
