- Three different stories of three different people are combined together through various events becoming one
- Carola Martin is not keen on being in the spotlight. But when a local reporter asked her about her recipe for a successful marriage at the 50th anniversary of the family business "Möbelhaus Martin", she was happy to give good advice: honesty and trust are essential. Carola's private record seems to prove her right. She has been happily married for 25 years, raised a patent daughter and is now back to work as an editor in Berlin. Carola attributes the fact that she has become a little estranged from her husband Dieter to the circumstances - her frequent absences, the stress. Then Dieter dies in a car accident. And when the desperate Carola is forced to look at his documents - the furniture company has so far hardly interested her - she realizes that she never really knew her husband: Dieter was gay and had a relationship with the young lawyer Tobias Volperius for years. When Carola also learns that her daughter Simone knew of the lover's existence, her world collapses. While she should actually be fighting for her husband's company, which is being offered for sale by the scheming general manager Viktor Lipinski because of the alleged impending bankruptcy, Carola sinks into deep depression and even tries to kill herself. In this situation it is, of all people, the sensitive Tobias, marked by a serious illness, who is at her side. He believes that Dieter's marriage and his homosexuality are simply "two sides of love". His reason and perseverance finally make Carola reconsider her relationship with her family and her own understanding of her role.—ADR Das Erste
