Someone is about to be in the dog house!
French President Emmanuel Macron’s rescue pooch, Nemo, is often a fixture in presidential events and meetings, but on Sunday the two-year-old dog really stole the show.
The Labrador-Griffon cross decided to take a pee break during an important meeting between government members and his master. The hilarious moment was caught on camera by French TV TF1 and quickly went viral on Twitter.
Obviously a dog of fine taste, the President’s pup chose an ornate gilded fireplace in the 18th Century Élysée Palace as the perfect place to cock his leg.

When it comes to good adventure stories, Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) will arguably feature among the very best. It is one of those films that continue to delight audiences both old and new. In terms of elements it seems to tick all the boxes. At its heart, there is a fine, good natured yet entirely gripping story. A wondrous subterranean vista provides the viewer with monsters, vast underground oceans, villains and plenty of cliff-hanger moments of suspense.
It was perhaps a well-timed stroke of luck that some of the stories penned by Jules Verne were entering a period of public domain status. Two of Verne's adapted novels were to feature James Mason. Disney's adventure 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954) starred Kirk Douglas as a 19th-century whaler and Mason as Nemo, captain of the story’s legendary submarine, the Nautilus. Five years later, Journey to the Center of the Earth...

Filmmaker James Mangold is set to direct "Captain Nemo," an origin story based on Jules Verne's classic nautical tale "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" at Disney Pictures.
Sebastian Gutierrez ("Hotel Noir," "The Eye") penned the latest draft, he and Mangold taking over for Andrew Kevin Walker and David Fincher respectively who were both previously attached to the project and were developing it before departing a few years back.
Disney, which previously adapted the property into the 1954 film starring James Mason and Kirk Douglas, will develop the new film along the lines of their other live-action reinventions of late such as "Maleficent" and "Alice in Wonderland," offering a different version of a classic story - in this case a full on prequel in which we see how Nemo created his battle submersible The Nautilus.

From the outset, David Fincher has honed a very distinctive visual style. Gritty and visceral, yet clean and precise, his back catalogue is very impressive. From Fight Club and Seven to The Social Network and Gone Girl, he has managed to make films that are both high quality and that people love. Yet they often also cost a lot of money and, due to the often uncompromising nature of his films, studios can be reluctant to give him exactly what he wants. The inevitable result is that differences become irreconcilable and projects collapse.

In a rather candid interview with Playboy the director of The Social Network and Fight Club discussed his plans to adapt Jules Verne's classic novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A film that was nixed because Fincher and Disney could not agree on the cast. Fincher: Dude, it was fucking cool. It was smart and crazy entertaining, with the Nautilus crew fighting every kind of gigantic Ray Harryhausen thing. But it also had this riptide to it. We were doing Osama bin Nemo, a Middle Eastern prince from a wealthy family who has decided that white imperialism is evil and should be resisted. The notion was to put kids in a place where they’d say, “I agree with everything he espouses. I take issue with his means—or his ends.” I really wanted to do it, but in the end I didn’t have the stomach lining for it.

(Cbr) After chronicling the early years of Superman on "Smallville," Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have decided to reimagine another famous character, Captain Nemo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo just sold a script based on the Jules Verne creation to Sony. Little is known about the premise, other that it “offers a new take” on Nemo, who was characterized as a a stern leader of men who have come to live and work on his ship, the Nautilus. Fueled by a hatred of all things imperial, Nemo gave up living in populated areas, instead favoring his ship or his own island. The character debuted in the 1870 sci-fi classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." From there the Nautilus‘ captain appeared in the sequel "The Mysterious Island" and briefly in a play called "Journey Through the Impossible" before moving into other works like Alan Moore’s "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and a variety of adaptations.

Lately we've seen the work of Jules Verne brought to the big screen in subpart adventures like Journey to the Center of the Earth and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. There was hope that we might get a spectacular adaptation of Verne's classic tale 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with David Fincher and Brad Pitt, but Disney was never able to get the project going. Now THR reports one of the characters from the latter Verne title may still end up in theaters as Sony Pictures (Columbia Pictures) has landed a spec script from "Smallville" creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar with a new take on Captain Nemo. Read on! Captain Nemo was introduced in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1970 and appeared in The Mysterious Island and Journey Through the Impossible. He's known for traversing the depths of the ocean in his submarine, The Nautilus, which he built on a deserted island.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have certainly not been resting on their laurels since their phenomenally successful show Smallville came to an end in 2011. Having written the film I Am Number Four, and penned several episodes of the 2011 series Charlie’s Angels, they have now sold a script to Columbia Pictures that features one of the most enduring characters in literature – Captain Nemo.
As the creation of French author Jules Verne, Captain Nemo made his first appearance in the classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea in 1870. A mysterious and enigmatic character, he is revealed to be the scientific genius son of an Indian Raja and, as such, is also known as Prince Dakkar. Obsessed with marine exploration and discovery, he invents a deep-sea submarine named the Nautilus, and embarks on incredible adventures. A main feature of the character is his extensive loathing of Imperialism – particularly as perpetrated by the British Empire.

Jules Verne’s driven, mercurial hero Captain Nemo has been a fascination for filmmakers for ages. His adventures in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea have been adapted several times for screens big and small, but that isn’t stopping new writers and studios throwing their hats into the ring, with Sony buying up a script from Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The co-writers, who more recently worked on films such as I Am Number Four and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, won producer Joe Roth’s eye with their spec script, which boasts a new take on the antihero explorer and scientific genius who builds a sub called the Nautilus. Roth, in turn, sent the script to Sony.Though Roth has a close relationship with Disney – he’s helped make Alice In Wonderland and this year’s Maleficent happen – the Mouse House already has a Nemo update drifting through development.

The Walt Disney Co. has assured the Australian government that it.s committed to shooting 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo Down Under next year.

Uh oh – it looks like David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea remake is dead in the water for now according to Disney. David Fincher's remake of the classic, which Brad Pitt left in February, has reportedly now been shelved

Am I the only one excited for David Fincher’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea? Mostly because it’s a combination of the director of Seven with Jules Verne and Disney? Really? Well, whether you’re excited or not, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is inching ever closer to production, for Australia has offered itself as a potential site for production once Disney greenlights the picture.
Australia has reportedly offered Disney a flat $22.5m to shoot the Jules Verne underwater epic. Quite a big incentive for Disney producers to get in gear and actually give the project the green light. In fact, it’s the biggest incentive Australia has ever offered to a film production. They really want this one.
And so do I. With Fincher working on a really stellar cast list – Channing Tatum has been mentioned in the role of seafaring hero Ned Land – the project sounds like a gimme.

In this handsome, Oscar-winning adaptation of the Jules Verne classic yarn (regarded by many as the first steampunk movie), James Mason plays a memorably brooding Captain Nemo, the skipper of a vast submarine which is called on to hunt down vast undersea creatures. The first movie made by Disney's Buena Vista arm, it's memorable for a stunning underwater fight with an octopus and 19th century harpooner Kirk Douglas breaking into song.

At one point it looked like Brad Pitt would be joining the film production. THR now reports that Pitt isn't going to do it, but that production is moving toward a green light!
The studio is currently looking at shooting the film in Australia, and at this point they are just waiting to finalize details about the shoot, and some production incentives before they move forward and give the movie the green light. It looks like it's going to happen soon though which is really exciting! I've been excitedly waiting for this movie to happen since it was announced!
Fincher has been working with screenwriter Scott Z. Burns on adapting Jules Verne’s classic novel, and I have no doubt it's going to be incredible if everything goes as planned.

The Australian government is expected to give Disney a 30% locations rebate worth just over $19 million to shoot David Fincher's upcoming "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" remake there this year.
Disney executives are meeting with federal arts minister Simon Crean in Canberra on Thursday to finalize details of the incentive before the studio gives a green light, but Crean has reportedly already given government approval to the deal.
Under consideration are Fox Studios in Sydney, and Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland. The former was used for all three "Matrix" films, "Mission: Impossible II," "Superman Returns," and the upcoming "The Wolverine" and "The Great Gatsby".
The latter has handled productions such as "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," "House of Wax," "Pitch Black" and "Scooby-Doo". It was also the site of a previous adaptation of the Jules Verne classic - a 1997 telemovie starring Michael Caine as Captain Nemo.

Although the most recent update to David Fincher's long-gestating adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea named Brad Pitt as a likely headliner, The Hollywood Reporter now brings word that the World War Z star is not involved in the project. Movement towards a green light is underway, however, and Australia is offering Walt Disney Pictures brand new tax incentives to shoot down under. Originally scripted by Scott J. Burns, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is based on the classic Jules Verne novel of underwater adventure with Captain Nemo and the crew of his submarine vessel, the Nautilus. If Disney elects to film in Australia, the choices are said to be between Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland and Fox Studios in Sydney. At its planned budget, 20,000...

As far as big-budget extravaganzas go, there are a few that keenly attract our attention, and one of them is the proposed adaptation of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" that Disney is potentially mounting with director David Fincher and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns. A large-scale piece of mainstream entertainment crafted by the duo behind edgier recent fare like "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and "Contagion" is an intriguing idea. And when we talked to Burns about "Side Effects," his new psychosexual thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh (our review here), we had to ask him about the progress of Captain Nemo and the Nautilus. When we asked where the movie was, exactly, in the pipeline, Burns sounded cautiously optimistic. "I think they're getting closer to pulling the trigger," he said. He continued: " The last time I talked to anybody about it, it did seem like it was slowly marching in a good.

Update: Conditions look good for Brad Pitt to board the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Director David Fincher has said he'd like Brad Pitt to play master harpooner (or is it harpoonist?) Ned Land. Fincher and Pitt are long time colleages, with Pitt starring in Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fight Club and Se7en. Now, Pitt tells MTV, "I'd love to, I mean, he's my man. He's got a great take on it. That's just gonna be about schedule and time allocation, but he's my man." So, that's a yes?

David Fincher has been circling a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea reboot for some time now, but the project hasn’t been able to hold water for various reasons. In between efforts to get the movie moving forward, Fincher has filled time with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the upcoming Netflix drama, House of Cards. But a card might have landed on the table that will help Fincher get back into the 20,000 Leagues boat … and it’s a familiar card in the director’s deck. Variety reports that Fincher wants his frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to step into the boots of Captain Nemo, the hero of Jules Verne’s classic novel. The actor’s rep didn’t confirm the possibility of Pitt playing Nemo on screen … nor...

With the Hollywood version of "The Girl Who Played with Fire" still stuck in the scripting stage, filmmaker David Fincher is turning his attention back to his proposed adaptation of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" at Disney.
Variety reports that the studio has placed a three-month hold on the filmmaker as it decides whether to move forward with the project. Last we heard about the film was a year ago when Andrew Kevin Walker came onboard to re-write the script.
Fincher is now said to be courting his frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to star as sailor and master harpooner Ned Land, the role Kirk Douglas played in the 1954 film adaptation. A veteran A-List star will likely play the iconic Captain Nemo.
While neither Disney nor Pitt's reps would comment, scheduling wise both Fincher and Pitt have the availability to tackle such a tentpole.

Director David Fincher is still working on getting his big screen adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. We haven't heard much news on the project since Fincher hired Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker to rewrite the script. Fincher is now looking to cast Brad Pitt in the role of sailor and master harpooner Ned Land. This is the same character played by Kirk Douglas in the original 1954 film.
Casting Pitt in the movie makes perfect sense as Fincher and Pitt have worked together several times in the past on films such as Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious case of Benjamin Button. I think Pitt would be great in the role so it would be cool to see this all work out. As of right now, nothing is set in stone but the wheels are turning.
Disney hasn't even officially greenlit the movie yet, according to Variety,...

We look back at the work of Herbert Lom, the much-loved Czech-born actor who has died aged 95. His career took in everything from low-budget noir to the Pink Panther movies

A refugee from the Nazis at the age of 22, Lom arrived in London in 1939 and immediately set about continuing the acting career he'd started in his home city of Prague. His first role was a small but eyecatching one: Napoleon, in the Fox-produced biopic The Young Mr Pitt, with Robert Donat as the wily but principled British prime minister – starts at 6:30. (He would play Boney again in 1956, in the Audrey Hepburn War and Peace.)

One might suspect the Syfy premiere of Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island last February was another “mockbuster” from The Asylum, timed to coincide with the theatrical release of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But blame this one on the Syfy channel, as The Asylum wasn’t involved with this 2010 production. And that’s unfortunate, as this movie lacks any sense of fun or campy humor.
Most genre fans know how the film starts out. During The Civil War, as a group of Union prisoners, along with a reporter and a Confederate deserter, escape from their captors in a hot air balloon. A Confederate soldier, attempting to stop them, is pulled...

Twilight Time has released the 1961 film adaptation of Jules Verne's classic adventure Mysterious Island as a limited edition (3,000 units) Blu-ray. The story was Verne's sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, although the only recurring character is the reclusive genius Captain Nemo (played in this version with great dignity and charisma by Herbert Lom). Nemo doesn't appear until late in the movie and to say too much about how he fits in with the story would spoil the film's many delights. The movie starts with a daring escape by Union POWs from a Confederate prison during the final days of the Civil War. The escapees utilize a hot air balloon, that they successfully launch under gun fire in the midst of a hurricane. The newly-freed men are Capt. Harding (Michael Craig), fellow soldiers Herbert Brown (Michael Callan) and Neb Nugent (Dan Jackson), as well as a war correspondent,...

Mysterious Island: Mark Sheppard and Gina Holden Preview Their Jules Verne Adaptation

Sheppard directs and co-stars in this film adaptation featuring both he and his father playing the classic role of Captain Nemo (at different ages).
In a time when not every actor rushes to associate with sci-fi fare, Mark Sheppard's become closely associated with some of the genre's most beloved franchises. What does Mark find so appealing in the material? "It seems to produce some of the most exciting TV and films that are made." Serviceable family fare for the undemanding, Journey 2: Mysterious Island is a dumbed-down but fun update of the 1874 Jules Verne classic and the extremely entertaining Ray Harryhausen film version (with a great Bernard Herrmann score) from 1961. This cheesy new adaptation may give adult viewers a headache but it’s a fast-moving, old-fashioned adventure romp, built for short attention spans and maximum popcorn consumption. More a theme-park ride than a full-blooded movie, it goes down easy enough to recommend.

The first thing you about Vanessa Hudgens during interviews is her expert media training. Not that you should be surprised. Hudgens started acting at the age of 15, became a Disney mega-star after appearing in three "High School Musical" films, and is part of the never-ending tabloid rumor mill (particularly after a nude photo scandal back in 2007). As a result, she often stays on point when talking to the press.
However, during our conversation, Hudgens spoke about some of the things she's not typically known for: voicing a character on the raunchy Adult Swim show "Robot Chicken," participating in a Funny or Die video about cats, and taking a very un-Hudgens-like role as a pregnant teen in the upcoming film "Gimme Shelter." Granted, that doesn't mean she has given up fun movies for good. In her latest project, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," which hit hits theaters this Friday, she travels...
