Tedious, toothless black comedy
gridoon202425 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Jane Birkin is the black widow who marries rich old men and then murders them for their money (this is not a spoiler, as we see it happening in the opening scene!), and Émilie Dequenne is her granddaughter (by one of the unlucky stiffs) who comes to live with her and is "tutored" in the ways of seduction (and murder). It's an one-joke concept that might have worked with a genuine MILF in the main role, but Jane Birkin looks her age (57 at the time), and is rather alarmingly thin, to boot. This black comedy has little bite and few laughs; it would probably have been dated even 30 years earlier. But if you sit through its first 87 (!) minutes, you'll get to see a topless (and perfectly proportioned) Émilie Dequenne in bed - call it a consolation prize! *1/2 out of 4.
