Toutes ces belles promesses is a very charming movie. It's the story of
Marianne. She visits her family"s home, and remembers of her childhood.
Jeanne Balibar who is a very good french actress gives to this film
greats qualities. This movie is a TV's movie but it 's an excellent
work a charming small opera. In the very good stories there is always a
hidden flower or jewel which reveal the talent of the Author. In this
movie I found this hidden jewel it is the scene of Ghislaine's dance
(Valérie Crunchant). I appreciate a lot this exquisite remembrance of
childhood. Valérie Crunchant appears to be a very sensitive actress,
probably a new french talent. I hope we will see her again in other
movies.

Toutes ces belles promesses is a wonderful french movie, I think
it is the most beautiful work of Jean-Paul Civeyrac.I am so
enthusiastic that I give 10 to this film. I have seen Fantomes and
Le doux amour des hommes (others movies of Civeyrac), they
were sensitives stories and sensitives pictures with very personal
musical choices. But in All the fine promises there is the nostalgia
of childhood. A woman (Jeanne Balibar which is really an
excellent actress) remembers about all the fines promises of his
childhood. When she was a little girl she discovered the birth of
love with her nanny. I am very fond of the shorts appearances of
the little girl and her nanny. The young nanny (Valerie Crunchant)
incarnates the life and the goodness with a lot of emotion.Civeyrac
makes very successful pictures with her. It is particularly because
of those singles things of childhood that I am fond of this film. And
there is Mendelsohn's music. Since I saw this film I love this
composer.

I discovered this movie on french's T.V. The actress in this film are
wonderful. I remember this surprising Jeanne Balibar and Bulle
Ogier's duet they play piano and sing together: A great piece of
anthology. The actress who plays Ghislaine young (Valérie Crunchant) is
very
great too. She is very graceful, and very touching, especially when
she dances like Isadora Duncan in front of the young Marianne
(Irène Cavalaro). This scene is for me a very graceful
remembrance. It 's very interesting to discover such a good french
actress in TV's movies.I hope we will see her again in other
Civeyrac's movies.

I saw Toutes ces belles promesses on the Filmfestival in Ghent, and it was
a
welcome surprise for starting the day with. French movies are very
important
for the European movie-scene and Toutes ces belles promesses is a movie to
be captured. The story involves a young woman, traveling to an elder women
and places from her (and her dead parent's) past, after breaking up with
her
friend and discovering that her father had an affair with that women.
During
these actions all kinds of memories come up and she talks about it.
Females
are the central figures in this picture, so we are constantly shown what
kind of emotions the main characters go through, how they feel about their
lives and relationships. The whole story has been told already for several
times in other ways, but the acting en direction makes it all interesting
and beautiful. I would have liked it to be more compelling, but the
honesty
of of tout ces belles promesses was more important to me. I gave it 8/10

Director Civeyrac's film is a rather cerebral affair. The heroine,
beautifully played
by Jeanne Balibar, travels to meet her dead father's mistress (Bulle
Ogier)
who
helps her to choose freedom over love and passion. (No wonder this film
has
failed to find a distributer in France!)
Flashbacks are used to good effect, usually with a window or mirror as
point
of
entry. He should get an award for 'Best use of Hats': I found the idea of
desire
passing from one person to another by means of a hat really effective. The
film
is slow, beautiful and quite without the slightest trace of
humour.

Every french director would like to be the next Eric Rohmer, but most
don't
live up to that standard ... this is no exception.
The movie completely misses the right ruthm and the purity of rohmer's
movies.
The dialogue-driven plot gets interrupted way to eften by dreary
flashbacks
that keep dragging the film down.
It's not really bad, but it's of no significance at all.
