What this movie criticizes still applies today
zzmale7 April 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: With Deep Feelings.

This movie did an excellent job in criticizing the fact of reverse elimination: The promotion is not based on the ability or merit, but based on loyalty, which could only mean one thing: absolute obedience. In the aspect of party membership, it means never challenge the authority, and follows closely to the party line without any constructive criticism, or even questions, but in reality, virtually everything in life follows this stupid and absurd pattern, thanks to the political movements such as the Cultural Revolution.

What this movie had criticized two decades ago still applies to China today, and although the political aspect diminished somewhat, in the economical aspect, such as those inefficient state-owned-enterprises, this is still true.
