The 34-year-old actor has left quite a mark on Hollywood with his various roles over the years, and his personal life is just as intriguing. Did you know he's actually incredibly superstitious? Or that he's kind of a school nerd? On top of all his quirks and charms, Jared is also a devoted family man: he is a loving husband to actress Genevieve Cortese, and together they have three beautiful children, 5-year-old Thomas, 3-year-old Austin, and their newborn daughter, Odette. Keep reading for even more fun facts about him. Yes, he's really that tall. Jared is actually 6'4" in real life! He's a total brainiac. While in high school, he won the National Forensic League championship in duo interpretation alongside his debate partner, Chris Cardenas.

My friend and co-author Matt Zoller Seitz would always respond to news of someone remaking a classic movie or TV show with a groan, followed by his familiar but always entertaining treatise on how the smartest thing anyone could choose to remake was something that was mediocre, or worse, but had a great core idea that hadn't been properly exploited. He liked to point to David Cronenberg's '80s version of The Fly, or later the Edward James Olmos incarnation of Battlestar Galactica, as proof that there was more room to maneuver when the original didn't make the most out of what it was about. The original MacGyver doesn't quite qualify for Matt's theory, but it's close. The '80s ABC drama — starring Richard Dean Anderson as a spy of sorts who could solve any problem with a combination of basic science knowledge, his trusted Swiss Army knife, duct tape,...

CBS has handed out a formal pilot order for "MacGyver," its reimagining of the classic 1980s TV series of the same name which its own CBS Television Studios will produce.
In this take, MacGyver will be a twenty-something man recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent future disasters from happening.
Paul Downs Colaizzo penned the new take with "Furious 7" and "Saw" helmer James Wan attached to direct the pilot and executive produce. Henry Winkler, who also produced the original series, will also executive produce along with Michael Clear.
The project, along with the "Nancy Drew" reboot, are said to be a high priority for the network. The original series ran for 139 episodes from 1985 to 1992 and starred Richard Dean Anderson as MacGyver. The WB shot a pilot for a "Young MacGyver" back in 2003 with "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki in the role.

Classic 1980s action series MacGyver is in line for a reboot, as CBS orders a revamped pilot episode…
MacGyver is set for a reboot. CBS has put into production a pilot episode, which seeks to launch a revamped series inspired by the 1985-1992 ABC show that starred Richard Dean Anderson as secret agent Angus MacGyver.
As you may have guessed, this will be a ‘contemporary update’, not a period piece. It’ll follow ‘a twenty-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.’
Essentially, then, it’ll be an origin story for MacGyver. Whomever CBS will cast in the title role remains to be seen, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear any rumblings. We do know, however, that James Wan will direct the...

Vancouver, BC. It's time to bring out the big guns. Last month, I was on a "Supernatural" 200th episode red carpet in Vancouver. So far this week, I've posted the majority of the interviews. First I posted my red carpet Q&As with series creator Eric Kripke, plus long-time Ep Robert Singer and slight-less-tenured Ep Adam Glass. Then I posted my Q&As with supporting favorites Misha Collins, Felicia Day, Mark Sheppard and Genevieve Padalecki. But now, with Tuesday (November 11) night's 200th episode just hours away, it's time to post my interviews with Sam & Dean Winchester themselves. Because of all of their photo responsibilities and their various commitments at the party, I got Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki at the very end of the red carpet time and Jared in particular was only able to spare a couple minutes. But they're still fun, if brief, interviews. They're also the only...

"Saw" franchise director James Wan has confirmed that he's in talks to direct a film revival of the classic '80s TV series "MacGyver," about an incredibly resourceful detective who delighted audiences by fashioning everyday objects into weapons and devices that allowed him to escape from dangerous situations.
"People are surprised??" Wan tweeted when the news hit via THR. "You guys never saw shades of MacG in Jigsaw??" Indeed, Jigsaw was resourceful... though, with much more nefarious intent.
Jason Richman, Brian Gunn, and Mark Gunn have collaborated on the script for the feature film. As of now, there's no word on who will play MacGyver, or whether the now 63-year-old Richard Dean Anderson will reprise the role or cameo in the film.
If we might make a suggestion... "Supernatural's" Jared Padalecki played MacGyver's nephew, Clay, in a 2003 pilot called "Young MacGyver." A decade later, he's totally got the...

It seems that the MacGyver movie has a good chance of being made. What some fans may not know is that this isn't the first time a new version has been attempted.
In October 2002, Paramount made a deal with the WB network to produce a pilot for a new MacGyver series. Rather than focusing on Richard Dean Anderson's character, it would revolve around his nephew. Young MacGyver follows him as he winds up joining the Phoenix Foundation.
Casting got underway in late 2002 and they ended up hiring a pre-Supernatural Jared Padalecki, who'd been working on the network's Gilmore Girls. He reportedly had to pass on a role in Cheaper By The Dozen to do it. That part ended up going to Smallville's Tom Welling. The rest of the Young MacGyver pilot's cast includes Ron Canada, Tracey McCall, Alan Loayza, Lee Burns, Dominic Golden, and Kiele Sanchez.

There are plans afoot to make yet another big-screen movie based on a popular cancelled TV show. This time around, it's MacGyver. Will this one fare any better than the rest?
MacGyver revolves around Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson), a intelligent action hero who prefers to utilize everyday items to get out of tough situations. He works for the Phoenix Foundation under the command of operative Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar). Recurring characters are played by Bruce McGill, Michael Des Barres, Elyssa Davalos, Robin Mossley, Susan Chapple, John Anderson, Teri Hatcher, Robert Donner, Dale Wilson, Bruce Harwood, Claire Brown, and Jackson Davies.
MacGyver has endured the test of time so the character's been revived several times. In 1994, he returned in "Lost Treasure of Atlantis" and "Trail to Doomsday".

On the heels of the blockbuster success of Smallville, the WB Network is looking for its next young action hero franchise with a new take on the long-running spy drama MacGyver. The network has given a production order to a drama pilot from Paramount Network Television, tentatively titled Young MacGyver, which MacGyver producers Henry Winkler, Stephen Downing and John Rich are set to executive produce. Young MacGyver centers on the adventures of MacGyver's nephew, who is brought into the fold of Phoenix Foundation, a "think tank" dedicated to righting wrongs and defeating bad guys throughout the world. Sam Baum is writing the script and will serve as a supervising producer on the pilot. Casting is under way for the show's lead. Paramount's MacGyver, which ran on ABC from 1985-92, starred Richard Dean Anderson as MacGyver, a special agent who defeats bad guys using ingenuity, scientific knowledge and such ordinary items as paper clips and candy bars rather than force.
