Decent piece of Australian Silent Cinema
pauluswiggus11 April 2023
Hard to judge given only a fragment of the original film remains available, but based on what we have, this is a solid silent film. It's an adventure / romance, predominantly set in rural Queensland, comparable in many ways to an American western. The landscapes are striking, the action is well paced and the drama is entertaining, if not at all original. The direction and cinematography are perhaps a little unsophisticated compared to other films from the late 1920s, more reminiscent of the early silent films of Raoul Walsh or John Ford. Ultimately, this is an unremarkable silent film, worth seeing for the Australia setting.
