The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Conquest in the south and Battles in the north.
This movie is based on the memoirs of many soldiers who actually fought the battle, but the resulting film is full of the typical flaws that plagued Chinese movies for the next half a century.
One of the most typical flaw is just like those John Wayne's World War II war flicks in which good guys never curse, no matter how upset they are. So if you ever want to watch this movie, don't even bother to go through all those trouble to find it, just simply rent any John Wayne's World War II war flick (Remember, it has to be army, and it has also has to be in the Pacific theater), and imagine those good GI Joe's are Asians, just like their adversary, and then you would pretty much have this movie, or any Chinese war flicks.
