A Kentucky Classic!
LexLutherthe2nd21 June 2005
It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since this film debuted. It seems like only yesterday. While much of this was shot in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the movie takes place in Kentucky and some scenes were shot in Lexington and Louisville. Charles Ellis plays our hero, Morgan, who's band has just broken up. To relax, he takes a bath during his best friend's wedding reception. Wedding guests drift in and out of the bathroom and interact with him. Some are shocked to see him lying buck naked in the tub, while others are open to the idea. Among the initially shocked, is Katherine who Morgan met years earlier. I know it sounds like the plot to a SEINFELD episode, doesn't it? Well, the movie is not only funny, but romantic as well. Katherine ends up joining Morgan in the tub and -yadda yadda yadda- the two become romantically involved. Okay, maybe there was no yadda in the tub, just great conversation and plenty of tasteful nudity. It all takes place in a single afternoon, thus the tag line: "Some of the best romances only last a day." It also has some cool music and a wonderful supporting cast. I wish they'd issue a tenth anniversary DVD as this movie is nearly impossible to find now. In the meantime, I'll take a relaxing bath and wish for the best. Could you bring me back some champagne?

A group of friends assembles for a long over-due wedding

I saw this movie at the Vogue Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky. It felt real. I loved it. Made me want to have the kind of weekend the characters in the film had. Love, loved, loved it. Erin Jones was fantastic. The music was sublime and it had such feeling. A real joy. Lots of talk, but none of it boring. It felt like I dropped in a party and I didn't want to leave. The ending absolutely devastated me. When they meet again at the conclusion (and you, the viewer thinks Charles Ellis' character is gone) you can't help but smile and go, "wow, what a day." Fine film. I've also heard that some of the characters re-appear in a prequesl called "Paper Cut." I'd love an opportunity to be with these personalities again. I keep hearing the sequel/prequel is opening soon, but the suspense is killing me! What's going on? Please give us Reception fans something after all these years!

Yes! A 10th Anniversary Edition would be super!

My name is Jon Shelton. I too am a fan of RECEPTION TO FOLLOW. I'm also a friend of Charles Ellis and I knew him when he was making this movie. The other reviewer is right - it does seem like only yesterday. I've had the pleasure of seeing this film thanks to Cellis. It's awesome! I'd put it in the comedy and romance category more than the drama category, although it does have some good dramatic moments. The cast is charming, fun, and attractive. In addition to the two leads, I really liked Charles Sexton in his supporting role of Chris. I feel like when I watch this movie, I'm taking a bath myself. So it's the perfect bathtub movie if you've got a TV and video set up in your bathroom. I also liked some of the film's more imaginative moments - like how a painting is admired by the people on screen but it's never actually seen by the viewer. Another moment that allows you to use your imagination is the story of how Morgan and Katherine met. I guess it will be shown in the prequel, but I like the way the story is told in the movie. It adds depth to the film. The Love Jones contributed some of the music, so could you please put out a tenth anniversary soundtrack album as well? Love that theme song "Now You're Looking Like Me" by Charles Ellis and Vince Emmet! Also, I look forward to seeing the long awaited prequel to this: PAPER CUT.

Thank you for the nice words

I just read the quote above who called the film "a Kentucky classic." I wrote and directed the movie and it touched me a great deal. And, yes, actually I'm trying to get a 10th anniversary edition out but may have to finance it myself. Once that happens, I'll put up a website at my company and maybe direct mail it. Or something. Again, thanks for the nice words. Means a lot to me. I'm also hoping to regroup cast and crew for a special screening in Louisville this November. I know Charles Ellis, who played Morgan in the movie is in England, but Erin Jones is back in Louisville. I'm also excited because I'm finally (FINALLY!!!!) putting the finishing touches on Paper Cut, the prequel to Reception. So, maybe this will be the year it all comes together.
