Stars: Kumail Nanjiani, Zoe Kazan, Ray Romano, Holly Hunter, Anupam Kher | Written by Emily V. Gordon, Kumail Nanjiani | Directed by Michael Showalter
Michael Showalter, best known as an actor and writer on the Wet Hot American Summer TV series, directs this gentle culture clash comedy, based on the real-life experiences of (screenwriters) Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley).
We meet Kumail (Nanjiani) and Emily (Zoe Kazan) around 18 months before the latter is put in a coma. He’s a stand-up in a run-down comedy club; she’s a Psychology student. More of a meet-awkward than a meet-cute, his chat-up lines are cheesy and she’s kinda goofy. They hit it off, and we get the standard highlights reel from the next few months of their relationship.
Then Emily discovers a box of photos of other women. These are the potential wives chosen for Kumail by his Muslim parents.

Despite having played type-a former Adderall addict Annie Edison for six seasons (and perhaps, someday, a movie) on Community, for which she earned a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series; despite going joke-for-joke with comedy heavyweights like Will Ferrell (Get Hard), Rebel Wilson (How to Be Single) and Jason Segel and Chris Pratt (The Five-Year Engagement); despite the cosign she's received from comedy maestros ranging from Adam McKay to Judd Apatow; and despite having once worked as a birthday clown named Sunny, Alison Brie has a hard time thinking of herself as a comedian.

Randeep Hooda who is passionate about his horses as much as he is about acting, won three medals at the recently-concluded horse show at the Amateur Riders’ Club. What makes his win more significant is the fact that his horse, Dream Girl, is not only his first mare, but one of the nine injured horses he adopted and nursed back to health.
Says Randeep, “People advised me to get fancy, trained and fit horses from abroad for the races. But I wasn’t keen. What’s victory then? A movie starring two YouTubers will make its money back in iTunes sales, regardless of its quality. That may sound like a good thing, but it’s not if you’re an online content creator looking to transition into traditional Hollywood projects and shake your reputation as a one-trick pony. Speaking from the sixth VidCon, the annual convention for digital content creators and their fans, creator Jimmy Wong is uncertain about his and others’ crossover prospects.
“It’s really hard to transition YouTube stars into traditional acting roles,” says Wong, who rose to YouTube fame with his viral hit “Ching Chong! Asians in the Library Song” — a timely response to an ugly, racist video rant.

In 2008, Burnie Burns and Gavin Free of online entertainment and production company Rooster Teeth saw a YouTube video of an Indian man performing a cosmic head massage. Watching the video triggered an Asmr, or automated sensory meridian response, experience for them both, and the two became incredibly fascinated with this man, Baba Sen — known as the “cosmic barber.” Over the next eight years, Burns and Free continually discussed the phenomenon of Asmr — an experience of a relaxing sensation triggered by many things such as whispered voices — and hoped to be able to get a head massage from Baba one day.

She plays the fantasy girlfriend in a hip new film, all Gitanes and Gallic attitude – but the model-actor-singer (and DJ Mark Ronson’s other half) says she’s a tomboy at heart
French women. Wow. One would prefer to believe it’s all a cliche: the black eyeliner, the Gitanes purr, the wind-you-round-their-chipped-Chanel-nail-varnished-little-finger pout. Except here I am, perched at one end of a sofa in a studio in the 11th arrondissement of Paris with Joséphine de La Baume curled up at the other end, a one-woman forcefield of feline, Gallic charm. The slow smile, the sleepy, half-closed eyes, the hand absent-mindedly raking hair off her face. She has an easy sensuality that – seemingly without trying – casts the bronzed, hard-bodied, Americanised version of hotness into the shade.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for both Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ex Machina. As luck would have it, theaters are currently screening two separate movies in which a soft-spoken nerd and a guy with weird facial hair explore the risks of artificial intelligence. The first is Avengers: Age of Ultron, a film you might have heard of. The second is Alex Garland's fantastic Ex Machina, the story of office drone Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), who's tasked with figuring out if the robot his megalomaniac boss Nathan (Oscar Isaac) has created truly has a human consciousness. Unlike Ultron, a character that makes no sense, Ex Machina's Ava (Alicia Vikander) is one of the year's most fascinating onscreen creations, a Whirring Robot Dream Girl who expertly straddles the Uncanny Valley. Ultron and Ex Machina are two very different movies, with two very different aims — one is a heady sci-fi movie that...

The 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show went down at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London last week, and on Tuesday it aired on CBS! The supersexy annual event brought out an all-star cast of Angels including Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, and Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, who each sported a coveted Dream Angels Fantasy Bra worth $2 million. It's the first time in the event's 19-year history that the Victoria's Secret show has taken place abroad, and high-profile guests (like Olivia Palermo, Ellie Goulding, and Kate Moss's sister, Lottie) were reportedly given a black-tie dress code based on the event's theme - Truman Capote's famous Manhattan Black and White Ball in 1966. The models strutted their stuff on the runway in six separate segments - Gilded Angels, Exotic Traveler, Dream Girl, Fairy Tale, University of Pink and Angel Ball - and as is customary, congregated at the end of the runway for a big,...

From the moment it sputters to low-fi life, "Mood Indigo" is unmistakably the work of Michel Gondry, a sweet and sad little song of longing with the most visually inventive approach to emotion in any film this year. It is a strange surreal world that Gondry has created, one with no rules other than if someone in love starts coughing, that's not a good sign for them making it through to the end of the film. Gondry is a romantic, no doubt about it, and he's also a guy who rejects the idea of living a "normal" life, meaning his lead character is a man-child who drifts through his days, his whole mind focused on whimsy and the ridiculous. The worst thing in the world in this film is the notion of getting trapped into doing a "normal" job. Gondry seems to view that as death. Sure, he's working from a novel by Boris Vian,...

It’s the rise of the machines as romantic dramedy, and the Singularity as romantic tragedy. It’s the nicest, gentlest sci-fi horror film ever. I’m “biast” (pro): love Spike Jonze’s movies
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Romance is difficult. Capturing the uniqueness of your generation’s experiences in a movie is even harder, especially given all the easy clichés of modern romantic comedies.
Actor Justin Long has become, intentionally or not, somewhat of an expert in the genre with roles in Going the Distance and He’s Just Not That Into You. For his latest film, A Case of You, he decided to take the pains of a recent breakup and write one of his own, alongside his brother Christian and friend Kier O’Donnell (who plays his roommate Eliot in the film). The movie, which...

Rob could have any girl in the world, but is he even interested in that sort of stuff right now? A source tells HollywoodLife.com Exclusively what the actor’s true priorities are.
Robert Pattinson has been 100% focused on his career right now, which has been helping him deal with his sad breakup with Kristen Stewart. But the 27-year-old star apparently needs more than just acting to keep him distracted — he’s focusing on music too!

For the actor, making a number one hit record takes precedence over finding a new love right now. A friend of Rob’s tells HollywoodLife.com Exclusively, “He’s not looking for a serious relationship right now. Rob’s number one priority right now is his career, in particular music. He’s heavily invested in his music career and it will only be a matter...
