nothing new but I couldn't stop watching it.

I have seen tons of better movies but I found this little film enjoyable, set in Pescara, a town of the region Abruzzo on the Italian east coast, provides a different setting from the average stereotypes. The protagonists don't look too absurd for such a small production and I must say I absolutely loved the female protagonist: Miryam Catania is a wonderful, wonderful girl and I will definitely look around for new movies where she would play a role. The movie is somehow very sensitive, and romanticism poors out every now and then, even if the plot gives a certain sense of deja-vu. anyway...I liked it and I don't even know why .

Strange and beautiful attraction.

I saw this film -featured directly in TV, here in Spain- last night. Though the plot is absolutely known and the roles are the same roles that in hundreds of drama and romantic films, I think that the difference is in the force that the director and the rest of the crew put in it. I felt that I was seen some theatrical release with a deep work between director and actors. True set pieces in the spectacular landscape of Pescara -bello, bello- but you feel trapped in the characters, in their weakness or their force. And I must recognize it: I was hypnotized and enchanted. Please, if this film arrives to you, give it a chance: like a strange jazz melody, the more you hear it, the more you love it. (And, believe us: Myriam Catania is a pretty actress to dream about).

Warning: Spoilers
"Liberi" an Italian film shown recently on cable, is an interesting look at provincial family that dissolves before our eyes. The father, Cenzo goes into a deep depression because of problems at work. His wife decides she has had enough of the situation at home and leaves Cenzo and goes to Pescara. Vince, their son, also announces his departure, leaving the old man Cenzo to fend for himself.

Vince, who wants to make something out of his life, gets a job in Pescara at one of the family restaurants dotting the sea shore. There, he meets the owner's daughter, Genny, who is a free spirit. She likes the young man, but they keep the relationship on a platonic level for a while. When Cenzo turns in Pescara, he has come looking for his family, but alas, it is too late because both his former wife has a new interest, and his son has a life of his own, made more bearable by Genny's love.

Gianluca Maria Tavarelli, the director, also contributed to the screenplay. His film takes a hard look at what happens when a couple breaks up after being married for a long time. One wonders what attracted them, as the wife never shows any signs of ever having loved Cenzo, or even have maternal instincts for a son that for all practical reasons is a stranger to her.

Elio Germano does a decent job in his take of Vince. Luigi Maria Burruano, who appeared in the much ambitious "Centi passi", is seen as Cenzo. With his defeated look, he makes a case study of the man that feels defeated by life. Nicole Grimaudo shows a promise with her Genny, a happy girl with a lot to give.

Very nice film that also starts very well with a very good plot evolution, unexpected stuff in reality for this film that seemed to be a normal Italian romantic comedy but which instead turned out to be much more by introducing different themes in addition to the classic stuff of 'love because in a single film the world of work and the enormous difficulty that people have to face to enter it are faced and the problem of jealousy is also treated as well as various anxieties and fears that both young people and adults experience. Another very nice thing is how the story is told, that is, with a beautiful parallelism between the life of the protagonist and his father.
