  • The fire station shown at the beginning of the film as Hitch is coaching a client is Hook and Ladder #8, the firehouse used in Ghost Busters (1984).

  • Will Smith suggested Kevin James for the role of Albert, being a fan of James' hit series "The King of Queens" (1998).

  • The mobile phone that Hitch uses to talk to Sara when Albert is getting his back waxed is a Sony Ericsson P900.

  • Andy Tennant offered Aishwarya Rai a part in this film, but she turned down the offer because she was working on Bride & Prejudice (2004) at the time.

  • Jennifer Lopez turned down the role of Sara Melas.

  • The movie that Sara is watching in her apartment is Jerry Maguire (1996).

  • The original title of the script was "The Last First Kiss".

  • Kevin James made up all of the dance moves for the scene where Albert is dancing in Hitch's apartment.

  • One of Albert's favorite books is "I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough" by Stuart Smally.

  • Michael Rapaport's character Ben underwent many drastic changes during the screen writing process. Among the items that changed during writing and filming, were his personality, nationality, and age.

  • Allegra Coleman was a fictitious actress created by Esquire magazine in their Nov '96 issue, designed to spoof other magazine's fawning obsession with new stars. The article written about her new "It Girl" status prompted calls from studios and talent scouts eager to offer her scripts. Ali Larter provided the face and body shots for the faux starlet.

  • Eva Mendes was featured in Will Smith's "Miami" video. She was the girl in the car lip-syncing "Bienvenido a Miami" in the song's chorus. Mendes mentioned this to Smith during rehearsals. But Smith sheepishly admitted that he did not remember her.

  • The character Sara Melas' sister's car is a BMW-manufactured Mini.

  • Albert's (Kevin James) little dance after he first kisses Allegra (Amber Valletta) is the same dance as John Goodman's in front of Holly Hunter in Always (1989)

  • Hitch's college unfaithful girlfriend shown in the flashback towards the beginning of the movie is called Cressida Baylor. In the Shakespeare play 'Troilus and Cressida', the character of Cressida proves to be unfaithful to her lover Troilus. At one point in the play another character says that in the future "Let all constant men be Troiluses, all false women Cressids, and all brokers-between Pandars!" (3.2) Pandarus is the go-between, or pander, for the two lovers, much as Hitch is for lovers in the movie.
