They want money?

I watched this not 10 minutes ago. First off, the story line is really thin. I know it's a short, but six minutes is long enough to put at least a good story line in there.

This film was made to raise money for a feature film of the same story. For the short I imagine that they didn't have much money to work with, but most independent filmmakers could make a great short film with less than $300. It didn't seem like they were too concerned with the story and just wanted to make "cool" fight scenes and from looking at the website, I believe that even more.

Even for an independent film it was edited badly. More than a few shots didn't match. If I was a producer and I watched this I wouldn't want to put money in the feature. If this is what I have to look forward to then I might as well throw my money into the gutter. I would not recommend this to anyone. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe we missed the point---did they intend this as a comedy?!

I found this on the Reelmind.com website among the many independent short films they post and after watching a couple dozen, I can honestly say that CHICKS WITH STICKS is by far the worst of them (in fact, most were very good). In fact, it's just bad film-making and shouldn't be on the site, as it cheapens the rest of the short films. That is unless they really DID intend for this to be a comedic parody (which, unfortunately, I don't think they did). In this short film, just about every martial arts/action film cliché was included--along with not particularly inspired fighting and silly plot. It's like a very bad 90 minute film boiled down to its absolute worst core. Sadly, the film was apparently posted to try to secure financing for a full-length version!! If this actually occurs (given the rottenness of the film and a 1.8 rating on IMDb this is highly unlikely), it's a sure sign that the apocalypse is upon us!!!

Usually with young film makers I am extra cautious and don't give scathing reviews--I know it is hard to make it in this field. But this film concept is just a dead end--find some other idea, please. Women pummeling each other with staffs isn't much of a plot (though it is probably very interesting to many Freudian analysts).
