The Dangal girl Zaira Wasim's open apology on Facebook has come out as a shocking news for everyone including the Bollywood film fraternity. The 16-year-old's apology came after she was trolled on social media and was apparently forced to say sorry for meeting Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who called her as the role model for Kashmiri youth. Soon, a full support poured in for Zaira on social media with people asking her whether she was forced to apologize after receiving threats. Even celebrities like Anupam Kher, Javed Akhtar, Ashoke Pandit, Renuka Shahane, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah among others have sharply criticised the attack on the 16-year-old who came in support for the young actress. And now, Aamir Khan has also appealed everyone to leave her alone and respect the fact she is just a 16-year-old girl trying her best to deal with life.

Thanks to a well-reviewed movie star, Bleecker Street took “Captain Fantastic” to a now-rare, once-common $20,000-plus limited per theater opening. With all well-oiled cylinders at work, Bleecker filled the demand for older-audience films after two failed recent attempts by others at corralling the younger market (“Swiss Army Man” and “The Neon Demon”).
Two New York-only docs, “Under the Sun” (Icarus) and Sundance opener “Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You” (Music Box) both attracted interest.
A wider Bollywood release, Salman Khan-starrer “Sultan” (Yash Raj), achieved something few specialized films have managed in recent months: a Top Ten placement despite playing at fewer than 300 theaters.
Meantime, The Orchard’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” expanded again to strong numbers close to last weekend’s. This word-of-mouth hit could play all summer and expand wider. There is still an audience out there: it’s just more selective.

In Padma Lakshmi's new memoir, Love, Loss, And What We Ate, excerpted in this week's People, the star reveals she ate her placenta after the birth of her daughter Krishna in 2010.
Worried about regaining her strength after giving birth, she decided to consume her placenta in pill form. The primary benefit, she writes, "was warding off post-partum depression, something I feared more than fatigue. And I had bouts of depression myself at various times in my life."

She has a new book titled “Love, Loss and What We Ate,” and Padma Lakshmi admits she was thrilled and perplexed when she got pregnant with her daughter Krishna.
Given her endometriosis, the “Top Chef” star was told she wouldn’t be able to conceive, so it was obviously unexpected when she found out she had a bun in the oven- especially because she had been dating two different men at the time.
Padma told people, "I was shocked and elated. And then I was like 'Hold on, wait a minute.' A question began to nag at my giddiness: not so much 'How?' but the far more uncomfortable 'Who?'” Lakshmi explained that she was seeing Img CEO Teddy Forstmann and Dell Computer honcho Adam Dell, though Dell wound up being her babydaddy.

I had all the time for love back then but now I can only see my career. Love for a man would only destroy my career.

Her inclination has always been towards meaningful cinema than being part of commercial ventures. She is popular for the strong characters that she played, which almost had a slight feminist bend to them. But surprisingly, she is a huge fan of commercial films. Well, we are talking about none other than the disarmingly simple person with a no-nonsense attitude, actress Revathi.
Recently while interviewing her for Margarita With A Straw, Revathi revealed, "I am a huge fan of commercial films. I too love entrainment and music. Cinema is all about fun. We should have all kinds of films happening. It's a free medium, so it should not be restricted to particular kind of films or genres. This is an art which makes you think. It's the duty of Cinema."

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you” – Rumi
Brave. Real. Beautiful.
These are the words to describe Margarita, with a Straw (Director. Shonali Bose).
Protagonist Laila (Kalki Koechlin) is a young bisexual woman with cerebral palsy.
Discrimination is no doubt a key issue raised in the film.
However, Laila is certainly not a victim.
Wheel chair bound, Laila is no different from any other young person- or rather, person.
Wanting to impress through Facebook, keen to fall in love, making mistakes and confronting her skeletons, Laila highlights that whomever we are we battle the same insecurity: to be accepted by society.
Nevertheless in finding herself, Laila finds a self-acceptance that cannot be shaken by any societal norm.
New York is where one of Laila’s important turning points of self-discovery, independence and love take place.

Known for her unconventional movie choices, extraordinary fashion sense and honesty, there is one thing not a lot of people know about the Khoobsurat actress, Sonam Kapoor and that is her work for social causes. Continuing her social work, Sonam is now calling people in Delhi to adopt dogs a cause which she calls “close to my heart”. The actress tweeted in support of Puppy Love Delhi showcasing the groups mission to place Desi dogs in loving homes.

So to kick off the album, we have Calcutta Kiss, sung by Imaad Shah and Saba Azad. The song has some lovely jazzy flavours, that includes instruments like the trumpet, drums, piano and the guitar. I found it to be a very unconventional song for Bollywood, yet at the same time, I very much enjoyed it. I appreciated the unique styles and tone of the song which is very pleasurable to hear.

Previously: 'Girls' Season 4, Episode 8, 'Tad & Loreen & Avi & Shenaz': Trouble on the Home Front Love Her or Hate Her We're back to like, and it's a good thing too, given that the finale is next week. As the episode title promises, "Daddy Issues" revolves around Hannah's reaction to her father finally coming out of the closet and what that means for her parental unit going forward. While she struggles to get her head around the idea that her parents might actually stay together in a sham marriage, she over-shares with everyone around her, leading to several discussions about what it really means to be a grown up. Another Cringe-Worthy Moment Three words: Japanese music video. How Many Shots to Forget that time… Marnie showed up and completely steamrolled Ray's big night by not only blurting out her marriage announcement to her ex the second she saw him, but then again...

Hindi films are known for their romance and it is one of the reasons so many people fall in love with the heroes, the heroines and the films! We asked our writers to tell us what moments in Bollywood define love or romance to them, be it a song, a line, a look, or anything that makes you sigh thinking that is Love! So for Valentine’s Day we present what we think is Romance Bollyishstyle!
The One with the Tune and the Recording
We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...

Canada has a wealth of cinematic talent, and always has. From our comedic genius to our often cerebral approach to filmmaking, this country has a lot to be proud of.
Of late, and especially this year, Canada has really dominated the movies landscape. Our homegrown actors (Sarah Gadon, for example) and directors (Xavier Dolan, "Mommy") have been everywhere, earning accolades around the world. Movies shot within our borders have won rave reviews and received praise from the highest-ranked critics and film festivals.
Perhaps most outstanding is our growth. No longer are we satisfied with melancholic snow landscapes (though sometimes those still appear); we've branched out, and we're trying new things. Here, in no particular order, are my favourite Canadian movies and moments of 2014.

Shiamak is known as the Guru of Dance, and has choreographed some of the best dance pieces for stage and screen. To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.
‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2
The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Kudos to Shiamak on giving the song a big ‘dhoom!’

Desi Kalakaar is the latest album from acclaimed Indian pop star and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. In just a short space of time, this young Punjabi artist has had a phenomenal impact in India and has a strong fan following across the world. He is popular not just in Indian pop music, but also in Bollywood music where he has lent his voice to major superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. The music and lyrics have also been produced by Singh, with Lil Goju having co-written the lyrics for three of the songs. During the launch of the album, Singh dubbed it as more of a ‘romantic dance album’ than anything else and considers it to have ‘a long shelf life.’ Is he right on the latter? Read our review of his latest album to see what we thought of it.

In her debut in Issaq with Prateik Babbar, this young actress certainly made a great impression and it has only gotten better. Last year, Evelyn Sharma, the 23-year-old half-German half-Indian supermodel-turned-actress, was seen in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani as the bubbly and maybe a bit ditsy Lara romancing Ranbir Kapoor. The lovely lady has not stopped and will be seen in a starring role in Yaariyan, in theaters now. If you can believe it, this is her fifth release in just a year! Yaariyan is the directorial debut of Divya Khosla Kumar that also stars a set of newcomers including Himansh Kohli. About the story of the film, Kumar said in a recent interview with Ht, “To put it simply, the film is about the youth and their feelings and emotions while growing up. It can be described as the journey of how boys turn into men.”

Jai Ho sees Sohail Khan return to directing after Maine Dil Tujhko Diya (2002), his debut film as an actor. Jai Ho is yet another remake of a Telugu hit, Stalin, starring Chiranjeevi and Trisha. Sohali’s version stars Salman Khan, Tabu and Danny Denzongpa in pivotal roles.
Music has been composed by Sajid-Wajid (Dabangg franchise) and Amal Malik with Devi Sri Prasad as guest composer. Vocal talents consist of Wajid, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Palak Mucchal and Himesh Reshammiya amongst others. The album features 9 tracks including 3 remixes.
Baaki Sab First Class is a satirical number sung by Wajid. The lyrics (Sajid, Irfan Kamal, Danish Sabri) are impressive however the repetitive dhol beats gets old quickly and Wajid’s rendition, while decent, suffers from a serious case of been-there-done-that. We are a day away from knowing who wins the race to the trophy of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, and this is exciting! With our top 4 biting their nails, we decided to put together a reminiscing piece on their journey comprising of their best performance, most deserved score and their X factor. So what makes these 4 jodis so special? Read on to know!
Lauren Gottleib and Punit Pathak
Most Deserved Score: what score do I say is the best? 30s and 30s back to back! And no one can complain either, since all their 30s were well deserved. But their much deserved score was the Filmy Masala performance, where Lauren sizzled to the famous song ‘Jaane do na’. ”The performance was ravishing and Lauren turned even more desi with that one!
Best Performance: However, I think their best performance was the Contorted Contemporary act in week 5, the best horror act ever performed on the stage.
