NEW YORK -- Programs from Denmark, the U.K., Canada and the Republic of China were among those that took home awards during Monday night's International Emmys in New York. Best drama series went to The Eagle, a Crime Odyssey, a Danish TV series produced by DR and NRK/SVT/RUV/ZDF in Denmark. The series tells the story of a detective superintendent who fights organized crime and his own personal demons. Top Gear, a BBC Documentaries & Contemporary Factual production about cars on BBC2, won for nonscripted entertainment. It was a big night for Danish TV, with a second show from that country winning in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category: Young Andersen (Nordisk Film A/S, Danish Broadcasting Corp. in cooperation with SVT, Denmark), which focuses on the tragic early life and upbringing of famed Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.
