It's death and death only.

Actress Laure Duthilleul first and only effort as a director. It did not attract people in spades .How could it?

"See you tonight" (the title) is a mundane title but which becomes gruesome when we realize that ,for the country nurse (Sophie Marceau) ,there won't be tonight anymore ,for her husband ,a doctor ,died in his sleep .

A death ,it's a world falling down .If the dead 's brother can overcome his pain and get himself together, the wife can't.She loses track of the time (and space) ,she rebels against the undertakers who come the funeral, telling them that "her husband is entertaining his friends ",she lets her daughter put her teddy bear on the corpse .The children 's comings and goings certainly provides the movie with its low point.Young children do not realize what they have lost and they keep on playing as though nothing happened;it's human .But that their mom lets them enter the room where the body lies ,it's downright implausible in what the movie is: a realistic vision of a tragic bereavement .

The screenplay is very loose, its scenes look like fragments after an explosion. The movie never falls into the trap of sentiment and precludes all forms of conventional emotion .

By refusing her audience any dramatization -except for the suicide attempt-,the director does not play the game ;with a subject which concerns absolutely everybody ,but which puts off everybody, it was bound to be a commercial fiasco ; the title itself promised a gentle comedy: the story resembles a dirge .

Perhaps never since Maurice Pialat 's " la gueule ouverte" , has one felt that death is not something abstract, which concerns the others .Death is certain.

However ,the last pictures of this depressing work let some sunshine in. I'm not a fan of Sophie Marceau ,but here she blew my mind.
