Highly engaging and extremely hard.
Wow! What an amazing game. You better make sure you get off to a good start and select the right characters and weapons for your quests because if you mess it up your in for a hard time.

The gameplay is wonderful and never gets boring and the graphics are very detailed and atmospheric. The monsters and enemies can sometimes be a bit generic and it's not as gory as I would like it to be but this and the constant difficulty reduce this from a 5-star rating to 4-star.

I would recommend that you have a Pentium IV processor and a decent graphics card if you want the best performance out of this game. And decent speakers would be appropriate for when you cast those BOOMING spells.

Like most games these days this is designed for the most powerful and advanced machine. If you are fortunate enough to have one then buy this game to make the most of it. Even if you are not a big RPG fan the fun never ends. And neither does the game apparently.

Still holds up almost 20 years later

This game is available on Steam and I highly recommend it! The gameplay is challenging, yet rewarding and fun fun fun! It is slightly dated with it's graphics and point/click movement, but it remains as one of the best dungeon crawlers ever.

Great Cooperative Hack and Slash!

Although a bit grindy by today's standards, there is something comforting sitting with two others and just going at thrashing foes left and right until everyone is too tired to stay awake. Save feature is nice and certainly a must. The game controls pacing by the volume of enemies, the faster you go, the more you'll encounter. Smooth animation, plenty of upgrades along the way. Nice choice of weaponry or character play-styles instead of having to fit traditional roles of tank, healer, and/or damage-per-second.

Satisfying to complete though there's not a whole lot of story or special large enemies to overcome.

Entertaining, but not much Depth.

This game was a visual stunner in it's time. The release of such games as Doom 3, Far Cry and Elder Scrolls 4 exceeds the main draw of this game however. It has been outdated. There is not much role playing or side quests here; just a huge hack and slash game through some cool environments.

Not to say, this game isn't fun. There is a huge pile of unique equipment to give to your party of up to eight members. Then watch them unleash death. It's what Diablo 2 should have been.

The basic quest is your character seeking revenge on those who razed your farmland. It ultimately leads to a hell like environment and the ultimate showdown with the usual suspect. Along the way, you will pass through pastures, towns, temples, ice caves, seashores and forests, all inhabited by a wide assortment of enemies. Some of the boss creatures are really well crafted such as beholders, dragons and giant spiders. The settings are detailed magnificently. Fans of Eye Candy, take note!

However, there are some real issues with the game that give it negative replay value. Character AI in a click and point, hack and slash is just terrible. Sometimes my characters disappeared off the screen, chasing enemies and waded alone into a wall of monsters. Instant death. Hordes of monsters overwhelm you and you better keep a close eye on what's happening. The magic system is confusing, and I basically set one spell for my wizards through different parts of the game. It's too bad, it might have been a real exciting development given the number of spells available. The sheer size of some of the environments is annoying as you have to backtrack through them to town to sell and buy equipment. A Town Portal spell would have sure come in handy (the second game addresses this issue).

All in all, it is an interesting game with some annoying glitches. The settings and micromanagement involved will appeal to many fantasy fans. It is a lot better than Diablo 2, so fans of that game will enjoy this. Given the limited number of Fantasy RPG's out there, it is probably worth the purchase. Just don't buy the Expansion Pack, Legends of Aranna

Pleasant enough diversion..

Warning: Spoilers
Dungeon Siege isn't a difficult game to get into. You have your initial character, equipment slots and a hokey back-story. Along the way you can hire other characters and thereby increase your firepower and abilities.

But, and it is a big but, it's not hard. Keep your group in a tight formation and use lots of missile weapons and most enemies can be decimated before they get near enough to hurt you. A nifty spell to add as back-up is "Healing Wind", which kicks in when a party member gets seriously hurt. But it heals anyone that is also injured, making it a great restorative when the enemies keep-a-coming! As I said, it's not a hard game when you use those simple tactics. In fact, after a while, it becomes little more than an exercise in grim determination to see it through to the end. You'll end up with so many items that you can't use (because you don't have the attributes yet) that you'll be ignoring the treasure after a while. There is, after all, only so much your personal army can carry.

Also, don't be tempted by a pack-animal. They are pretty useless and no replacement for another bowman. Most of the magic system is also superfluous. Apart from healing, your mages (two recommended) will only cast damaging spells from the back of the group. The rest is a waste of time.

However, despite being simple to a fault, the game is entertaining enough to while away a few hours now and again. Just don't look for any great depth.

When I got this game I was amazed at the graphics, music, level design, after playing only some five minutes I was ready to call this best game of all times, problem is that I continued playing after those five minutes. Graphics and music are great but that is only thing that is any good in this game, things like story, quests, level design, cease to exist after five minutes, remaining game looks like a long corridor where all you do is kill monsters and a loot them, no story, no level design, no character design, no nothing, if u want to play action game with great graphics and ALL you do is kill bunch of monsters this is the game for you, but if u want a game with a story get ANYTHING else because even Super Mario has a better story and level design that this.

Score: 2/10
