The balance between medical cases and touches of personal storylines continues.
The interns were mostly endearing during Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 7, but the connections to the medical cases were most compelling.
If it slipped anyone's mind that the new batch of interns has shades of the Og interns, then this installment was a reminder of how much Simone Griffith is her class' Meredith Grey.
Most of the season has focused on the interns simply navigating life at Grey Sloan.
And sometimes, we don't delve into their personal elements nearly as much as we should.
The balance between giving us more insight into these new characters and providing surface-level connections to medical cases has been challenging.
But the installment revisited not only the pain of Simone dealing with a grandmother with dementia who still looks at Simione and sees the daughter she lost but also Simone's harrowing backstory.

It’s no wonder why Fallout got renewed.
Amazon’s video game adaptation stormed onto Nielsen’s streaming list in its debut weekend, racking up a whopping 2.9B minutes viewed in its first five days on the platform.
That was over a billion minutes more than anything else that was watched on streaming the week of April 8 to 14.
It’s also Amazon’s most successful title to date, according to Nielsen, considering it surpassed Reacher’s best week by over a billion minutes as well.
Nielsen reports the audience for Fallout in its premiere weekend was 63% male, and 75% of viewers were under 50. About 70% of viewing was concentrated in the first four episodes, which likely indicates some more big weeks for Fallout ahead.
In second place, unsurprisingly, was Bluey. The kids program continues to be a big winner for Disney+ and this interval was no different. The series attracted another 1.4B minutes viewed.

Prime Video has touted the viewer response to Fallout as its second-biggest series ever worldwide over 16 days of release. In the United States (and over a shorter time period), it’s No. 1.
Fallout recorded 2.9 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. over its first five days, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings for April 8-14. That’s far and away the best opening for a series on the Amazon-owned Prime Video, beating Reacher’s series premiere week in early 2022 (1.84 billion minutes) by more than a billion minutes.
The series also had more than double the second-place show on the list for the week: Bluey had 1.39 billion minutes of viewing in the week leading up to and including the release of its special episode “The Sign,” which premiered on April 14.
Netflix’s unscripted series Unlocked: A Jail Experiment placed second among original series with 889 million minutes of viewing. Star Trek: Discovery...

Since Station 19’s Ross is heading for a wedding, it was inevitable that we’d get to meet at least some of her family. And in Thursday’s episode of the sadly cancelled ABC drama (at 10/9c), Lost vet Yunjin Kim makes the first of her two appearances as Jeonghee “Jinny” Lee, the bride’s “full Korean sister,” per the network.
The character is described as being “very cross-cultural, well-educated and living full-time in Korea. She’s a woman at a crossroads and not comfortable with that uncertainty, so she spends her time fully knowing what everyone else should be doing with their lives.

It was an easy, breezy installment, but some noteworthy moments.
We have Yasuda leading the pack as best intern on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 6, while Simone and Blue continued to bond.
And Beltran had to juggle Levi and Amelink.
Join the discussion with Haley Whitmire White, Lucy Peel, and Jasmine Blu!
What were your overall thoughts on this episode?
Haley: It was fine for a filler episode. Nothing terribly exciting happened, but it set up several potential big storylines. A couple of moments made me think we're in for some pretty big reveals towards the end of the season.
Lucy: I liked seeing different pairings here. Link and Beltran, Webber and Adams, Kwan and Griffith. Otherwise, I was underwhelmed. I am sure we're in for a big season finale, possibly disaster-centric.
Jasmine: I think this has been an interesting season because it feels like a "filler season." They haven't...

Extended Family was granted a pilot episode in 2022. The pilot wound up being a great success and several big names signed up to be part of the show. Some of the names included in the project were Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Abigail Spencer (Grey’s Anatomy), and Donald Faison (Scrubs).
However, when they started filming, it was delayed by the strikes, which went on for several months. They were able to film six episodes before the strikes, leaving the remaining seven episodes left to film once production resumed four days after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The Good Doctor is checking in with one of its original stars as the series winds down, and it doesn’t sound like good news is on the horizon.
A new promo released for the penultimate episode of the ABC medical drama shows Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) on Shaun’s (Freddie Highmore) doorstep with a smile.
They’ve been friends since the series premiere, so Claire’s return to town should be a happy occasion.
The clip then cuts to Shaun telling Claire that the doctors found a lump on her breast.

Several longtime Grey’s Anatomy cast members were at the SeriesFest event in Denver, Colorado and briefly teased this season’s finale.
The ABC medical drama is heading to its final episode of season 20 – a ten-part series as a result of the writers and actors strikes of last year.
Showrunner Meg Marinis, in her first season at the helm of the hit drama, said that “things come to a head” in the season finale.
“Heading towards the end of the season, because it’s a shorter season of 10 episodes because of the strikes, we really pay off what we started in episode one at the end of the season. Interns being in trouble, Meredith doing this secret research, things come to a head,” she said.

Ellen Pompeo is filming a dramatic scene for her upcoming project.
The 54-year-old actress looked frazzled while getting out of a minivan with her on-screen kids while filming scenes for the upcoming Hulu limited series Orphan on Friday morning (May 3) in Los Angeles.
Ellen‘s on-screen husband Mark Duplass rushed over to the scene to make sure everyone was safe after the crash.
Based on a true story, Orphan follows “a Midwestern couple adopts what they believe is an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism. But as they begin to raise her alongside their three biological children, they slowly start to believe she may not be who she says she is. As they question her story, they’re confronted with hard questions of their own about the lengths they’re willing to go to defend themselves, falling into a battle that’s fought in the tabloids, the courtroom,...

It’s official — Night Court will be returning for a third season on NBC.
The renewal of the comedy sequel headlined by Melissa Rauch, who also executive produces, and the original series’ John Larroquette, was never in doubt. As Deadline reported earlier this week, the delay was caused by NBC and producing studio Warner Bros. TV going back-and-forth on the size of the order. Season 3 will ultimately consist of 18 episodes, I hear.
The contract for the series is believed to stipulate 22-episode seasons while NBC asked for a 18-episode third season, sources said. Because the sitcom, a followup to the 1984 NBC sitcom, launched in midseason 2023, its first season counted 16 episodes. Its second season, whose production was interrupted by the strikes, was comprised of 13 episodes, in line of the rest of NBC’s popular scripted series this season. Its season finale aired March 26.

Every year, the ABC television network airs new and continuing TV series. Many are cancelled and many are renewed by the season's end. Although everyone understands that Nielsen ratings usually play a big role in TV cancellations and renewals, most fans do not get to participate in that system. So, we are offering you the chance to rate ABC TV shows here, instead.

The doctors were in at the top of Nielsen’s streaming ratings for the beginning of April.
Medical dramas The Resident and Grey’s Anatomy were the top two titles for the week of April 1-7, finishing with 1.18 billion and 1.15 billion minutes of viewing time (both stream on Hulu and Netflix). The Resident actually slipped a little from the previous week‘s 1.48 billion minutes, which was good for second overall, but the show that had been ahead of it — Netflix’s 3 Body Problem — fell further. The sci-fi series dropped by about 47 percent to a still solid 937 million minutes of viewing.
Disney’s animated movie Wish had its streaming premiere on April 3 and racked up 1.02 billion minutes of watch time over its first five days on Disney+. It’s the first film on Disney+ to crack the billion-minute mark since Elemental did so in September 2023. Bluey (1.08 billion minutes) also crossed the...

The Resident is claiming sweet victory on the Nielsen streaming list.
After making its debut during the previous interval thanks to some measurement adjustments on Nielsen’s end, the medical drama racked up 1.18B minutes viewed across Netflix and Hulu from April 1 to 7.
It was joined in second place by another medical procedural, Grey’s Anatomy. According to Nielsen, that show put up 1.15B minutes viewed during the interval.
However, the company reports that Grey’s secured a younger crowd, with 35% of its audience coming from the 18-34 demo, while The Resident nabbed 30% of its viewers from the 50-64 crowd.
Disney+ locked in third and fourth place with Bluey and Wish, respectively. The kids show, which is consistently in the Top 10, put up another billion-minute week with nearly 1.1B minutes viewed. Meanwhile, Wish was the first film on Disney+ to hit the billion-minute mark since Elemental with 1.018B minutes viewed.

The children’s animated film “Wish” debuted with just over 1 billion minutes watched in its first five days of streaming on Disney+, per Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings for the April 1-7 interval. Having debuted on April 3, that makes the movie the fourth-most-streamed title of the week.
The No. 1 title of the week was “The Resident,” up from No. 2 the week before when an update to Nielsen’s measurement capabilities drove the series’ chart debut. Across both Hulu and Netflix, the medical drama was watched for nearly 1.2 billion minutes from April 1 to April 7.
“Grey’s Anatomy” was the second-most-streamed title of the week with just over 1.1 billion minutes watched across both Netflix and Hulu. This was a strong viewership bump for the series, which makes the chart almost every week but typically in a lower position. “Bluey” is a constant in the top half of the chart, and made No. 3 during...

One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.
The Conners debuted following Roseanne’s cancellation
Roseanne returned earlier in 2018 to blockbuster viewership but was canceled after series star Roseanne Barr’s controversial comments about Valerie Jarrett.

Shonda Rhimes was honored at Variety’s Power of Women, presented by Lifetime, in New York on Thursday for her work with the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, a non-profit dance school that offers classes to disenfranchised communities.
Rhimes was aware of Debbie Allen’s work from a young age, having been a fan of her 1980s TV show “Fame.” Years later, Rhimes’ eldest daughter took classes at the academy, and Rhimes and Allen became fast friends. Allen eventually became an executive producer, director and actor on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and in 2022, Rhimes opened a permanent location for Dada in Mid-City.
“They call her Ms. Allen. Her students are aged 3 to 93. They are all sizes, all colors, all abilities, all talent levels,” Rhimes said on stage at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.. “Some are kids like mine — overprivileged. But some are not. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) has had enough. In TV Insider’s preview of the May 2 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Bailey needs a moment to rant to Owen (Kevin McKidd) about everything on her plate. Bailey’s got a lot of complaints she needs to get off her chest. “Do you know how tired I am? I have three jobs. I run a clinic. I’m residency director, a full-time surgeon… and I’m a mom,” Bailey tells Owen. “Actually, that’s four jobs. I’m lucky if I get five hours of sleep a night.” She’s upset because she took time out of her “busy, sleep-deprived life to do something about the well-being of our interns, so they don’t end up stressed or run down or burnt out because I am a damn good teacher, and I care about these people.” Owen hasn’t had a moment to get a word in yet.

Love is what many of us are inadvertently drawn to within the series.
But it also garners the most drama, and some of it is contrived and unnecessary.
It is far too familiar now for television series to put some of the most notable couples through the wringer for the sole purpose of angst and drama. Yes, we're looking at you, Chenford.
Unfortunately, the status quo for many series has become putting interesting characters together and then showing how terribly they are at conflict resolution.
It's like series are so determined to capitalize off the drama and angst within relationships that they don't even bother investing in any other angle.
It's become frustrating that series have resorted to the same patterns when showcasing their couples and what they go through rather than delivering on the more realistic and inspiring option of serving as positive examples for relationships.

CBS is taking a page out of Netflix’s playbook by announcing its programming success in the billions of minutes watched.
If you were wondering what that might mean to a broadcast network, it measures out to 456 billion minutes of CBS programming watched in the first four months of 2024.
With two new hits on its hands — Tracker and Elsbeth — this doesn’t surprise us in the least.
Here’s the real measure of their success, though.
Viewers delivered over 30% more time spent in front of CBS programming than Netflix and over 231% more than all other streamers combined.
No wonder they’re patting themselves on the back.
Those are incredible numbers that often go unnoticed when you use traditional ratings tools to deliver the news.
Even crazier, the time spent watching CBS programming has increased by 5.8% over the same period in 2023.
People often wonder how shows can be considered a success...

The saying ‘success comes to those who wait’ is relevant for many celebrities in Hollywood who have ridden the wave of failure to achieve stardom. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an actor whose career followed a similar path. While the star was the toast of the town on television in the 2000s with shows like The Walking Dead and Supernatural to his credit, his journey to the big leagues wasn’t easy.

Despite entering the industry in the 90s, Morgan spent many years auditioning for that one big break which eluded him constantly. Chicago Fire is back from another hiatus, but maybe the writers needed a longer break.
I'm not trying to shade anyone, but let's face it — like many others this season, this episode lacked a certain something. Substance? Interest? Whatever it was, it was missing.
When you have a show with this many characters, and you're constantly introducing new ones, it has to be hard to keep track of the storylines you're putting together. That's no reason to jump the shark, though, and it's starting to feel like that's what's happening.
On Chicago Fire Season 12 Episode 10, we at least had a bit of a theme going on. Most of the stories focused on family.
Hermann learned how to track his kids' locations on their phones, Cruz dealt with a potential threat regarding Javi's adoption, and Severide came close to having to watch Stella fall to her death.
Just another day in Chicagoland,...

If you read the headline and are asking yourselves, pilots? what pilots? — you are not wrong. It’s been largely a 2024 pilot season without pilots. A grand total of maybe one of them is expected to factor into any fall decisions as the broadcast networks prepare to unveil their schedules, starting with CBS tomorrow, May 2.
Needless to say, the broadcast pilot season is no longer the industry obsession it once was this time of year, with back-to-back disruptions from the pandemic and the dual Hollywood strikes providing the proverbial final nail in the coffin of the decades-old pilot cycle. But for tradition’s sake, here are some insights into the networks’ current development plans.
There is no more stacked lineup for next season than CBS’ with three new drama series, Young Gibbs prequel NCIS: Origins; Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; and Watson, headlined by Morris Chestnut; and two new comedies, Poppa’s House,...
