Anecdotes:
George A. Romero was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead (2004) that he asked them to appear in this, the fourth part of his "Dead" series, and they appear as the photo-booth zombies in the carnival/bar-room sequence. They also feature prominently in the artwork for the unrated directors' cut. suiteGoofs:
Continuity: After Riley lowers the drawbridge, a zombie comes out of the same control room. suiteSoundtrack:

Land of the dead: Or to give it the full title: George A.Romero's land of the dead after all this is the godfather of the zombie film. Many have come along as pretender to the throne, many have failed, some who realised the comic potential in lumbering undead succeeded (well done Shaun of the dead boys) but somewhere along the way someone saw potential in the zombie market (is it a cult thing?) and so along come a string of originals and even a remake of one of Georges own zombie films. Once again the box offices rung to the sound of groans and tearing flesh. But the difference with Georges original trilogy was they had social commentary whether it be about racial issues, consumerism or power struggle between haves and have-nots. All these issues existed for the zombie story to loosely hang on to. So twenty years later and four weeks before Halloween (what will the zombie costume ratio be like at this years parties?) comes the king of the genre to show everyone why we loved him and ultimately how it was done. Now I really liked the originals and I'm quite a fan of zombies in general but man what was this guy doing? Here the social commentary is so basic it's as clear as the zombies skin, it's not intelligent like it was in the seventies, and it's lame. Ohh America bad, superpowers bad, little people hard done too, it just doesn't cut it. Elsewhere the acting is poor, some big guy who I'm sure is an American wrestler doing one liners in his best Arnie voice and the script, when one character threatens another with the words 'he will pay up or I'll put a jihad on him' you cant help but wince. And you may or may not have heard about how the zombies have developed skills like using guns and general ability to odd jobs (the last one was a joke!) the whole reason I liked the zombies was because they were big in numbers and low on brains i.e. unpredictable. But if they can shoot me well cause I'm scared they have guns duh. All in all I think that the effects have moved on leaps and bounds and much like a plodding zombie the stories haven't. George is the same age as my granddad and he gardens and watches motor-cross. Maybe there just comes a time when an idea has run its course and should be left to rest in peace.
