Opens: April 1st 2011
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright
Director: Duncan Jones
Summary: A decorated soldier discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The experiment is a program that enables him to re-live another man's identity in the last eight minutes of his life which he must do repeatedly to find the truth.
Analysis: Two years ago British filmmaker Duncan Jones delivered his indie debut feature "Moon", a little seen but critically acclaimed sci-fi tale that was essentially Sam Rockwell acting alone or against himself. It was fresh, innovative, somber and overall heralded the arrival of a director to watch out for. After failing to secure funding for his next project, Jones quickly hopped onto the helm of this high-concept action/time travel blockbuster.
Naturally came the calls of Jones being a sell out, after all the...

These are big, big Glee spoilers. Most of it you knew, even if you didn’t “know.” It has to be this way to move the plot forward. Still, majorly spoilery. But also, the Kurt/Blaine stuff makes me very happy.
WWE is going to partner with GLAAD to embed anti-bullying messaging into their shows, which are marketed as PG entertainment. While the dialog between WWE and GLAAD began after homophobic remarks (scripted, mind you) by John Cena, I’m happy they’re trying this. I just wish I knew how you made professional wrestling “anti-bully.”
Quentin Tarantino is suing his neighbor over his “intolerably loud macaws.” This is not, despite all appearances, viral marketing for the release of Rio.
Nick Youngquest has teamed up with Nous Model Management to “Defend Equality.” While I’m happy about that, and how consistent Nick is in his advocacy, I suppose what you...

Finally, it's starting to happen. It's only been five short episodes (and only three in the alternate universe), but we're starting to see the set-up of Olivia's triumphant return to our universe from her semi-imprisonment Over There. At least, I hope it'll be triumphant -- that's certainly how I was feeling at the end of this episode. The rest of the time? Well, I loved that too.
The title "Amber 31422" is a reference to the chemical that Walternate created to seal in "breaches" in the space-time-continuum of the other side. What causes those breaches isn't really sure, though my guess is that it's some sort of fallout from the events of the episode "Peter." The Amber chemical is the gas we were first introduced to in episode three of the first season, "The Ghost Network." Remember that bus?
Speaking of throwbacks, there are certainly a lot of them this year.

One of the more striking films in the Short Cuts Canada program is Kire Paputts' Animal Control, the story of an amateur taxidermist and his relationship with a dog he finds struck by a car at the side of the road. Paputts was good enough to answer a few of our questions.
Can you describe the origins of the story? Where did the character come from?
The story is a combination of three things...
1. Being dumped by my long-term girlfriend.
2. My friend's dog dying.
3. A Kids In The Hall skit where Bruce McCulloch plays this strange guy who lives in some industrial warehouse and drives around at night picking up road kill with a small camping shovel.
I guess the stars aligned or something because the script just flowed out of me. There weren't many revisions either. The shooting draft is basically the first draft. In terms of the character,...
