Plot:

Way better than the first

House Of The Dead was a trainwreck. Ask anyone. You didn't want to watch but you just couldn't keep your eyes off the horror that was on screen. Yup, it was that bad. So how did they come to make a sequel? Easy, as bad as the first film was, it still made money. Luckily, the sequel is a major leap forward in terms of quality. Some of the more lamebrained plot elements are still there ( I believe we have writer producer Mark Altman to thank for this) but gone are the wacky and pointless Matrix scenes and nonsensical cuts. Unfortunately, the second film still bears little in common with the game franchise. Hell, neither film has ever even been set in the house of the dead. This one takes place on a college campus! Sid Haig gets a few minutes on screen as Professor Curien (the only game element here) trying to bring the dead back to life and inadvertently creating the zombie plague. There is a small scene told in flashback that tenuously links this film with the first. Overall, while a jump in most respects (acting good, action good, zombies good) there are still a few problems that need to be worked out if this series hopes to extend to a 3rd installment. My advice: ditch Altman as a writer and get someone who knows what they are doing!
