Another excellent Howard Goodall music mini-series
mhollandyh6 June 2005
Howard Goodall has added to his popular documentary style explanations of music. The first episode in this series is a peon of praise to Lennon and McCartney and the development of their music style. Howard's decomposition of some of the songs gives an insight as to why Lennon & McCartney have proved so popular. I am sure that Howard's assertion that Lennon & McCartney saved western music from the avant-garde movement may be too trite for music purists. However, for people like me who do not like the atonal music of the 20th century, it is interesting to think that Lennon & McCartney may have dragged 20th century music back from the brink. You do not have to be a music specialist to appreciate this series. Howard's laid back populist style should have wide appeal. It gets the thumbs up from me.
