Nice try!

Although I really like the actress Maria Simon (superb acting in Lichter by Hans Christian Schmid) and think she did best she could in this film, I was rather disappointed with the outcome. The plot itself was something where you immediately think: Oh, come on, this has been done before! You have two doctors who do experiments on people in order to improve the way of healing malign diseases. The ethical question put forward in this movie has been asked many times before: How far are doctors allowed to go in order to save lifes? The paradox of killing someone in order to help millions has become a bit of a bore, really, and DIE PATHOLOGIN does not answer this question in a better way than all the flicks before that dealing with this topic. So I sat through this movie and although I liked the atmosphere and the way it was filmed, I sometimes had to laugh at the scenes where I was reminded of American films of the same genre and the almost embarrassing attempt of the filmmaker to americanize Germany. I can imagine that it is very difficult to make a movie that is authentically German and full of suspense at the same time. But I guess I would rather watch a German filmmaker trying to combine the words German and SUSPENSE instead of watching a German filmmaker trying to use a German setting for an American thriller.
